Where IS it going to be?
Personally, I liked the Fontana Resort better than the Pigeon Forge one the year before.
I'm looking forward to it.

As long as my car doesn't act up, I'm in! Too bad I can't tow the bike with the 3000GT. I would love to take them both on the tail of the dragon.

A 3000GT can tow a bike if mine can tow half of a 3000GT!

We are talking to Fontana Village now about reserving a group of cabins further away from other cabins. 2010 had us right smack dab in the middle of many cabins, and our loud group annoyed some of the cabin dwellers, even though we never were reprimanded by the resort. Golfduke was actually told that we'd pretty much have to commit a felony to not be invited back  The lodge will still be an option for those who want it, but the cabins were nice!

Hopefully we'll make it next year. Looking forward to dates. :D
No official thread until I get the go ahead from Fontana Village, but it will be the same weekend next year that it always is, except longer (Thurs - Sun). MANY people talked about adding more days because of the long journey to get there & how much fun it was. It will also allow us to dedicate one day to river rafting (Fontana Village is *not* located that close to any tubing areas - all of those are located on the TN side) and add the Cherohala (as an option for those who want) in the driving schedule.

I like the idea of a block of cabins. also this needs to start a day or two earlier but I don't need a bunch of shit to do. it's good for people that want to stuff but I just love to hang out with the people and I missed out on the pool party so we had to break in later after hours.

Yeah - several people brought that up at the gathering this year & in post gathering threads. Starting Thursday and ending Sunday is what seems to be what everyone wants :)

I used to live in Maryville. Auto club used to route travelers around Maryville when possible because of it's bitchy cops. Maryville and Alcoa both were just a big speed trap.

I'll make it this year, tho the spouse is not high on driving hard into corners.
It's just ... that 90 minute drive to get over there from here is such an absolute bitch ....

best advice i've ever gotten is "do whatever your career will support". given my ~4 years of tenure, i'd say that i still don't have much of a leg to stand on. maybe if i was pushing 18 and didn't care about career progression any more--maybe it would work. for now, the best i can do is try and keep an open mind and a schedule PEX'd out for 10+ months.

Im going to be going back to mn in may, but depending on the dates, i might leave my car down here and ride a greyhound bus back for brg and drive the car home to mn at that time. I guess it just depends on the dates and my schedule

It could be called "Smokey Mountain Gathering" that way when we use the acronym, everyone will think were talking about guns.
