View Full Version : How to help promote this site.

1) Don't cause trouble on other sites that's not positive promotion.
2) Make posts on small/local forums that won't mind if their users hear about us. (or any forum that does not have an issue PM that sites admin to be sure)
3) Many forums have a spot for "homepage" or "webpage" in your profile add this site there. People will see it and it provides links to the site to help get us ranked in google.
4) If you have a website add a link here.
5) Tell your 3S friends. Don't message random people. Some people don't like that and consider it Spam.
6) Post a link on your myspace/twitter/facebook page.
7) Join the facebook group I will get to a myspace page.

sweet, let me know, i have alot of time to take care of some stuff, like i stated im off 4 days a week, give me something to do. lol.
also for shirts, i know someone who can design them, who has done alot of car themed shirts. could start a thread, have some members post up some shirts, vote on then. etc etc. would look sweet i think, the site logo, 2 turbos. maybe a black, turbos in a faded gray, site logo in there, maybe something along the side going up or down as well... something more modern not just a plain white shirt with a logo. just trying to paint a picture for you, and trying to help. im here if you need me.

I think the best thing people can do is to use this site and help it build up its information database... Post your questions, and others answer. Right now the thought on other forums is that the downfall of this one will come IF people go to others for information (specifically our previous home). Prove them wrong... Bring what you know, post it up, and help us build this one up into something bigger and better. Really... What this site becomes is up to the users. Not Alan, not any mods he should bring in, not AF... Just the users. If you don't ask or answer questions, then the database won't build and it won't become a source of information and people will continue to use other sites. So you make the choice. Give them a reason to stay here, or don't.

Some member on the other site want to delete years of history a little prematurely. This forum is new, growing, and a little disorganized right now. I think deleting USEFUL information on 3SI is just stupid and helps no one. If you want to delete your information, bring it over here first then delete. Wait until this site grows and becomes "organized".
I see a lot of questions here not getting answered/attention because it is being bombarded with the "newness" of the site.
So give it some time before rushing to delete years worth of history.

That is my frustration, right now. I post here, but don't get a response. I don't know if it because my question is worthless, no one is interested in reading it, or the universe of members is too small. After awhile, I end up going elsewhere for answers.

I think deleting info from 3si is wrong. It will do nothing to help the platform. Just repost the info over here and edit the 3si post to point ppl over here if they want more info/help. I have noticed that they haven't been blocking 3SGTO unless it's as a full link.

Forum Profiles I can't stress this one enough.
Their are over 1000 of us. many visit several forums. If every one of changes the spot on the other forum to point here, thats several thousand link to this site. Compound that by the number of pages that link to your profile and that will look good to the search engines.

I agree. The last few nights reading has been pretty light. I think we need to figure out how to recruit more new threads to be created from more users on other sites. The problem, as I see it, is until a critical mass of knowledgable people read and post here, content will continue to grow on more established sites, as answers will be easier to find and questions may more likely be answered by a larger audience. I think some of this will come over time, but if it takes too long, attrition may set in here.

So how do you go about promoting a site when the mass majority is on a website with standing ground?
We need to find a reason for people to come here, other than "fewer ads" or "faster servers" or "screw so-and-so". Exclusive content (articles, highly respected individual posters or experts), contests, coolness factor, etc. One strike against this site, at least for me, is the unfamiliar navigation and forum layouts, as compared to other sites. Loyalties are or could play a big factor in which site people visit. I think the first wave of new members here were loyal to Alan or had strong dislikes against forum administration elsewhere. Many people are indifferent, and just want to go where they can get the best support or most pertinent content. That is the audience for which we need a strong incentive to look here.
As an example, I am a Home Theater enthusiast. I only visit AVSForum, because of the quality of posts, the quality of members, industry experts, and the friendships I have developed. There are a handful of other sites dedicated to HT, but I only visit them rarely, and that may be because I am searching in the classifieds, or a search engine found a thread/post related to a topic I was researching.
Unfortunately, I don't know any good way to advertise our existence on other sites, without simultaneously contributing to their content or risk being banned.

Tweaking the meta tags (description and keywords) and registering the domain for a long time will help a lot as well. Currently the site expires in less then a year and that will really hurt Google ranking algorithms
Allen - bust out a few bucks and register the domain for 10 yrs and ask somebody better then I to volunteer to optimize the site for SEO.
Alan92RTTT

What effect would registering the name for 10 years have?

DNS poisoning on major dns servers (13 of them IIRC). For those who don't know, read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DNS_cache_poisoning

The biggest thing to get traffic over here is to keep posting and keep good exclusive information posted over here. If more members post here and not on the other side then this site will increase and the other site will decrease.
Most of 3SIs traffic, my guess is probably from Search engines and the guests or users are looking for general car help.

3SX is the title sponsor of the 2011 NG, correct? That's what I read on the NG11 info thread. They also have a Facebook page. I just thanked them for being a title sponsor. I don't see any other mention there. I would imagine the title sponsor would like to know their sponsorship hasn't gone un-noticed. I'm not saying spam their FB page, but I did create a discussion thread on their FB page asking a question. I'm sure they'd like to know more people appreciate their support, and I'm sure their 1800+ fans would like to know about the NG.

Hey guys, here's an idea... So you know that all of us and all the peeps out there who are either looking into buying a 3/S, parts for, or are looking for info on 3/S's quite frequently turn straight to craigslist as one of their first places to search. WELL, if each of us from all of our own cities and towns post a link to here under the Community/Groups area of craigslist describing 3SGTO as something like the ulimate 3/S resource for everything 3/S, many people will most definately see us. Heck, I search 3000GT everyday on there. You see it all the time on there with adds for local businesses or services with their links. Call it a 3000GT / Stealth Group under the title posting and just repost it every 45 days or whatever it is when it gets bumped off. Lots of cities, lots of craigslist searches for our cars, we're bound to pull in traffic with a 3SGTO link on there. Somebody write up a sample posting or ideas for one and we can all hit it hard!! Just an idea!

Posted from another thread. This is more about NG but if sponsors would put the NG banner on their home page it would help get the word out.
Hey Alan, Do you remember me mentioning a banner for sponsors? Just a banner that has the NG logo and click here for NG info or something like that. Not one that shows other sponsors but just a NG ad. I'd think they would post it on their home page to help advertise it.

Well as far as promoting this site goes it looks like the NG did a pretty good job at that. I've seen a ton of new people on here and just looking (I'm sure you have the stats, Alan) it looks like a lot more activity.

I was thinking the same thing. I have even seen posts from new people who said they weren't even aware of this site until they were headed to the NG, so hopefully, this past week will give the site a shot of new blood.
You guys rock. That is all.

There is nothing like a well run NG to put the C into Community. Even those that couldn't go are pumped from seeing all the pics and vids. It's been 10 years since I tracked my car and now I want to go out again. I have to think the sponsoring vendors are happy with all the buzz that NG generates too.

I was posting like a mad man on another site and ending every post with "See you at the 2011 3000GT/Stealth National Gathering in Indianapolis, IN from June 21-26!"
I was told by a person that my posts made them seek out the NG site and register. :)

Hell yeah, good answer!
This site will survive and prevail. I know the heart and mentality is in the right place with this one. The people here for the most part know these cars and know the community. God help us when noobs find this one easier.

^This.
I have always described 3sgto as a community of car enthusiasts (people who know what's going on, care about one another, etc).
I have never felt the same way about 3si, or any other forum for that matter.

I'm new to this site and I was previously on 3si and when I mentioned something about Pennsylvania 3S on there everything got shot down pretty quick if you dont mind me asking, what happened? It seemed like everyone was together on 3si and then it split. they won't even type 3sgto

No need to dig all that up again. Let's just say there are 2 differing thoughts on how a site should be run. One thinks it's all about making money and one is here to help the community. How can we help you? :bigthumb:
