View Full Version : anyone ever spliced nexus gauges into the stock cluster?
has anyone ever done this? perhaps if not with nexus gauges, with some other type of gauges? (i'm referring to tach/speedo, NOT the 3 center gauges).
i'd really like to keep all my readouts matching. if not, i guess i'll probably cheap out and get some other type of gauges for the time being.
p.s.
anyone used autometer widebands? any input on these?

nice. looks like there's no way to keep the stock odometer, or some of the instrument cluster lights. :(

I've seen a 3k once with what looked to be 3 5/8 in. autometer tach and speedometer mounted in the stock cluster somehow. As I recall, they were the only two gauges changed, the fuel level gauge was stock.
One day I intend to take apart one of my spare clusters to see how it could be done, as I'd dearly love either autometer or stewart warner's 200 mph speedo and a matching tach.

On a side note, that system set-up with the Tach and the Speedo, that wingnut posted, they guy ruined the board(unintentionally) and none of the idiot lights worked after. He was in the progress of figuring out how to get them back last I knew. That was a couple of years ago.

that sux. i'd definitely want to make sure i did it right. it would be nice if i could use the JDM cluster so that i can get the gear indicator lights.

^ this, fuel level is a big question since it's a "half gauge" size. The back of the cluster looks like it has important bits that you can't just cut out to get more space, without some SERIOUS shooter83-level knowledge and work.

I'm a pretty fair technician, if a bit rusty, so skills aren't the issue. Just have to find the time.
Maybe after UCONN I'll putz with a cluster and see what I can figure out.

yeah. loss of functionality. guess i'll just stick with cheapo gauges & not worry about color mis-match.

I plan on redoing my whole cluster with nexus gauges. I plan on making a custom main cluster, and move the side dummy lights to the bottom (with smaller tach/speedo moved to the top of the existing spot). Because I am moving the lights, I think the easiest way is to re-wire the dummy lights. The reason I will be moving them is so I can put two gauges on each side of the bezel.
