Well I went and did it. I have wanted this lens for some time now, and figured I would need it for NG.

Totally amazing from the little bit of playing I have done in the house. Can't wait to get out and get some real play time with it!

Now to save up $650 for the macro I want!

It's got amazing depth of field though, I got it for portraits and indoor sports shots

That bell shot dof is awesome for sure.

My next is a good macro. Just have not made a decision on zoom. I'm thinking minimal...

Prime is where it's at, these things are awesome and keep costs down. Unless you really need a zoom. My lens was so cheap I couldn't justify getting the more expensive stuff :)

Awesome! I'd love to get a couple of lenses for my D5000, but they're soooo expensive!

I have a d5000. When I got the 70-300 I realized how crappy the 18-55 and the 55-200 I got were.
I want to get something with a 67mm opening that will replace the 18-55.

Time to do some research.

I have the non-VR 18-105. It's a pretty good all around lens, but wish it had stabilization. There is a version with it, but $500.

I am picking up a prime 1.8 50mm next week. Not to bad at $139.

Any recommendations other than that lens for macro/micro?

Edit: I also am thinking hard on trading up my D80 for the D7000 or a D300s. Probably the 300s, but that's an after NG deal...

Let me know what you come up with on that.

What are you using for flash? I am thinking of the SB-700-AF, any thoughts?

It was expensive, but unlike camera bodies lenses tend to hold their value, so i dont regret it. Its a Canon 70-200mm F2.8. Have yet to process any pics from it yet, but so far things look really good.

Look for a lightly used 18-70. It's one of the better lenses that nikon made. It was a kit lens for the d70 and d70s
