Been trucking along with this old goat for a while now.

C2Q6600 3.0 GHZ - Tuniq Tower
6GB Corsair 1066 Dominator ram w/ ram fan
Abit iP35-Pro MoBo
eVGA GTX 285, SSC clocks (702/1598/1305)
WD Velociraptor 150 GB OS drive
WD REII 250 GB data drive
CM 690 w/ 2 120mm intake fans, 1 120mm, 2 140mm exhaust
Acer AL2416W 24" 1920X1200 LCD
Logitech Z2300 2.1 speakers

Built the main part of the system about 3.5 years ago or so. Only additions has been 4GB of ram (2GB is not enough for Win7 x64), the 150GB VRaptor, and the 285. I'm waiting for more info on Sandy Bridge, SSD tech to mature some more, and the next refresh of nVidia cards before I start looking into a new ground up build.

And you guys need to learn some cable management. :p

Nice comp Jeremy. 3.5 years ago that would have cost a pretty penny. Can tell by the Abit motherboard that it in ancient. I don't think they even make those anymore :P.

I usually spend about 1-1.2k a year on a computer. Lets me play the latest greatest at max setting.

Oh and don't hate. My comp has pretty cabling heh.

My cabling sucks because of the stupid power supply. The cables are all too short, or too damn long. I pulled it all apart to clean it (Antec 900 has no filters :( ) and never bothered cleaning it up again.

I was upset when Abit died. I've used their boards ever since the day of the BE6-II and the BP-6 (had both of them). I used to upgrade about every 18 months or so, but moving here, taking a 6K/yr paycut, and adding 1 girlfriend and 3 kids to my budget has made it pretty hard to continue that upgrading. Add to the fact I need to keep her pc up to date (2.8GHz C2D, gigabyte p45 board, 4GB ballistix DDR2 800, GTX 260 216SP, 150GB Vraptor, and her original tiny 80GB from the Dell p4 system she brought with her on win 7 x64 in some shiny case that I don't remember the name but she wanted) and my system is really starting to show it's age. I will say, though, that the initial cost was stupid high, but the longevity I've got out of it has been amazing. Really impressed with this system over the years.

I also use to be a huge fan of Abit until they went under. Used them for all my builds. I pretty much stick with ASUS now. Out of the last 15 boards I have used 2 of them were other manufacturers(Gigabyte and DFI) and both were DOA so I can't bring me self to use another company anymore lol.

Here's my collection of computers. Besides the laptop and the most of the DOS box I built all of these computers.

Main System: Orion

CPU: Intel Core i7 860 ~ Zalman CNPS9900
Mobo: MSI P55-GD80
Video Card: VisionTek Radeon HD 4850 512MB Zalman VF1000
Sound Card: Creative Labs X-Fi Platinum
Case: ThermalTake Armor Xaser VA8000B
RAM: Mushkin Blackline 8GB PC3 10666 8-8-8-24
Power Supply: Corsair 620HX
HDDs: Seagate 320GB, 400GB, 750GB, 1.5TBx2 2TBx2 SATA, 250GB USB
Optical: Plextor PX-B320SA BD-Rom/DVD-RW SATA
Monitors: Samsung SyncMaster 225BW 22" & 941BW 19" widscreen LCDs
Speakers: Klipsch Pro Media 2.1
OS: Windows 7 64bit

This system is about to get an overhaul. I'm going to be replaced with a Lian Li PC7FNWX. The PSU is going to be replaced with another Corsair. Thinking a 740WATT. I'm going to be doing Murdermod sleeving on everything, adding a fan controller, and putting another optical drive in. I'm finding I really need two with all the ripping I'm doing.

Power Supply: Corsair 450VX
HDD: Seagate 320GB
Optical: Plextor PX-B320SA BD-Rom/DVD-RW SATA
Monitor: Samsung LN40B550 40" LCD
Speakers: Home Theater
OS: Windows 7 32bit

I just recently replaced the receiver. Still cleaning up all the wiring. I use this system to stream music, movies, and T.V. shows from my main system. I also use as a Blu Ray player. I love this thing. I even use it to stream Netflix and watch Hulu and some other internet T.V. It also can do anything a normal computer can do. I just love this thing. One upgrade I would like to do is an SSD

Backup System: Apollo

CPU: Intel Pentium 3 1GHz
Mobo: A Open Generic
Video Card: nVidia GeForce FX5900
Sound Card: Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live!
Case: Cooler Master Centurion Blue/Black
RAM: Samsung Original 512MB 2-2-2-4
Power Supply: Enlight 300 WATT
HDD: Seagate 120GB
Optical: Dell DVD-Rom/CD-RW
Monitor: Asus 19" Widesceen
Speakers: Some cheap creative labs 2.1s
OS: Windows XP Pro

This a system I use for some slightly older games that don't play well in Vista/7 or on newer hardware. Games like the first Max Payne or Age of Mytholigies and Moto Racer. It was a system I bought from an old job for $25. It was branded as an A Open computer. I rebuilt it with a better looking case, better PSU, better memory, bigger/faster HDD, CD burner/DVD rom, Zip drive, black floppy, better sound card, and video card. I think the only thing I kept was the mobo and processor. Pretty soon I'm going to be sleeving all the wiring inside this as well. Also, the speakers are gone. They started on fire.

http://www.synapsepc.com/Hosting/Images/Computers/Apollo/Apollo.jpg

http://www.synapsepc.com/Hosting/Images/Computers/Apollo/Apollo%20Workspace.jpg

The DOS Box:

CPU: Intel Pentium I 133MHz
Mobo: Generic
Video Card: Cirrus Logic 2MB
Sound Card: Creative Labs Sound Blaster 16
Case: Packard Bell
RAM: 48MB SIMMS
Power Supply: Generic
HDD: Seagate 2.1GB
Optical: Generic 4x CD-Rom
Monitor: Asus 19" Widescreen
Speakers: Also need to be upgraded
OS: Windows 3.11

That monitor has been replaced with a 19" from Asus, but DOS is still win widescreen. That monitor was moved to be used for system diagnosis and builds back in my work room. This thing was my first computer back in 1995. I keep it around for one purpose alone and that's for playing my old DOS games. No emulation, just pure unadulterated DOS. Since I have a lot of DOS games and spare parts up the butt it just seems logical. The computer against the wall is a customer's system that they can't pay for and it's not worth anything to sell. Also, there's nothing like playing old DOS games in widescreen!

http://www.synapsepc.com/Hosting/Images/Computers/DOS%20Box/Doom%20In%20Widescreen.jpg

Other than that I have three other desktops, a test bench, and my laptop that aren't worth mentioning.

Yeah, the backside of the mobo tray is a nightmare. :D everything runs through and then back out wherever necessary. The worst part about the wiring like that is if you have to replace the PSU. I had a less-than-quality 700W in there that the 12V line was dipping pretty bad when I had the system under load. It took me close to an hour to swap from that one to the current 650HX corsair piece.

For anyone that is looking for a new PSU - Corsair HX series. /questioning. :)

I love the Armor as well but it just doesn't have any cable management so I've got to move on to the new case. I'm too OCD and I can see too many wires. So, anyone who wants that case, it's up for grabs.

It's not quite done yet. Soon my old CRT will come out of storage. I'm going to move the old consoles to the other side of the room and have a separate rig. The older systems just don't look as nice on the LCD. Plus the light guns don't work. I'm going to add some systems as well. A Japanese Saturn, a 7800, and a Turbo Grafx 16. I might even get a Master System.

the master system. :) Got to watch with it, though. There were two versions of it. I had both of them. maybe that was the case 10+ years ago. it's not that way any more. everything i game in is above 1080p resolution; and i have no problems. i'd have even higher performance if i had gotten a 17" w/ dual gpu.

if you can stomach gaming on an xbox/ps3, a gaming laptop is actually a STEP UP from that. seriously.

For the price/performance value of an Xbox is really outstanding. When it was released it would have been impossible to build a comparable computer for 1/3rd the price. Besides the RROD of course lol. I think my xbox only lasted about 6months, but I really only play computer games so I never even bothered to send it in for the free fix.

Laptops are nice if you travel a lot and want to play games I guess, but you have to sacrifice paying premium for a computer that will have a smaller than ideal screen, minimal upgrade-ability and an underpowered version of a popular gpu. You can counter some of those points with a more expensive customizable Sager or ASUS laptop, but the price/performance just isn't there with laptops. On top of that they are generally prone to overheating and for gaming have to be plugged in. A 2000 would get you a pretty decent laptop, but a 2000 desktop would destroy everything it touched.

i'm not about to take a desktop to the sandbox. ;)

again though, you say that about a 2k desktop...but you're discounting the cost of a good monitor. last desktop i bought had a 22" monitor that cost me $850. seriously. and the resolution was only "slightly" better than it is on my current laptop (1920x1440 vs. 1920x1200). i could care less about screen size; what i want is dpi. wuxga 15.4" was as close to 150dpi as i could get this side of an iphone. i would upgrade to a 17" if i could get a wqxga screen; but somehow, i don't see that happening for YEARS (if ever). f**k 1080p & the glut of low-resolution crap that it has generated.

yes, you're going to pay a little bit more for laptop gaming; but it's not as much as people make it out to be. gateway p-7801 being a perfect $1100 example. remember, sitting 18" from a laptop screen is probably the same as sitting across the room from a 70". there isn't much need to upgrade from 4gb ram & quad core (as quad core optimization hasn't even been fully rolled out). and "underpowered" or not, the FPS benchmarks on good gaming laptops are nothing to sneeze at; so only the most HARDCORE of videophile gamers would be "unsatisfied" with gaming on a good (read $2000) gaming rig. and if you fall into that category, you probably don't own an xbox/ps3 on principle.

people just don't seem to appreciate that for 1/2 the cost of a top-end rig 10 years ago, you can have an insanely more capable (relative to graphic demands) laptop today.

in any event, i despise console FPS's for destroying the genre. i primarily blame MS for this.

polygon,

where is your neo-geo? :p seriously though, that's pretty nice. i don't have the non-nintendo systems, but what i do have i would say probably trumps yours. NES 2.0. SNES 2.0. Grape N64. (and of course a platinum GCN & a wii). i have the same pelican switcher box too. lol! i've actually been weeding out old carts as i've downloaded them on VC (although nintendo has been sucking ass lately on VC releases).

:D

Yeah, I've owned all the revamped versions of the older consoles and decided I just like the originals and sold them. I also didn't show the Game Gear, Nomad, 32X and the Wii. I also have backup systems for most of these.

The one question you have to ask yourself is, do you have all the original boxes?

I'll have to look into the Neo Geo though. :)

and for half the price of that you can get a desktop that blows it out of the water, no contest. How can you even compare a modern computer to one from 10 years ago? I mean really

Also, a good monitor is $300 or less these days. I'm talking 23" 1080p (or 1200p) IPS. Regardless, sitting with your face in a small laptop screen is NOT the same experience as enjoying a large screen TV from the comfort of your couch.

boxes? yes....i did. i actually had kept the boxes for my nes, snes and n64 for over 10 years (well, at least the first two). i eventually got rid of them all. i was trying to de-clutter my life. i had also kept all the boxes from every cartridge i'd ever owned; and the manuals. again, too much clutter. i got rid of my extra zapper gun, the power pad, the odyssey 2, the master system, the atari 2600, the ti99-4a, the trs-80, etc. i had every intention of buying the complete virtual boy library; but i've never gotten around to it.

i find it hard to believe you like the NES mark1 over the mark2. you actually like f**king with your cartridges just to make them work? i don't. only thing i miss about the mark2's is the power light. other than that, i think it's a much better design all around; and the dogbone (while not as iconic) is much more comfortable. not that i really care...i always use an NES MAX when i'm playing. :p

next question:

what's the rarest/most expensive cartridge that you own (that you actually enjoy playing). i wish i had a copy of earthbound, but i don't. my MVC (most valuable cart) is probably metal warriors, with a current average sale price of >$65.

Polygon
09-22-2010, 01:04 AM
Damn! I would have bought some of those. I'm in the process of getting all the boxes and manuals for my NES games. I have all that crap for everything else. Yeah, I does clutter things up but I'm not using that cold storage for anything else. And I honestly think these things are going to keep appreciating. As for my NES, I don't have to fiddle with them as I replaced the 72 pin connector inside and I love the retro look. The most expensive game I own would have to be Mario RPG for the SNES. Although, Ninja Warriors for the SNES is more rare but not more expensive and I still love to play both. Nest in line would probably be Knuckles Chaotix for the 32X.

i have more FPS's loaded onto my laptop at this very moment than 99% of the population has ever played. maybe you enjoy carting a desktop to LAN parties; i found that to get old rather quickly. i like gaming from my couch (or rather, my AK rocker); but not for FPS's. having an extensive background in both goldeneye/perfect dark (um, DUH) and timesplitters--as well as more PC FPS's than you can probably name in 30 seconds--i can definitively state that playing FPS's with a sturdy, flat surface for controls is ideal. i would rather play descent 1 with only a keyboard (which i have done)...than i would pretty much ANY console shooter.

and FTR, a $1000 desktop (including the cost of your $300 monitor) is NOT going to "best" a good $2000 laptop. unless, of course, you plan on buying a $500 video card and spend only $200 on the ram, cpu, motherboard, case, power-supply, and hard-drive COMBINED. roflmfao!

no way that mario RPG is that expensive any more. not after the VC release. FF6 went down in price after the GBA release; same thing. and in any event, chrono trigger is the best 16 bit rpg by a country mile.

yeah, it's too bad i didn't know any collectors back when i was "purging". i grew up with packrat parents...and i just cannot stomach the thought of living like them for the sake of eventually cashing in one day. ever seen that episode of "Amazing Stories" that starred mark hamil? yeah...no thanks.

Man this is a big, heavy laptop (laptop? right... but... I DO actually put this puppy on my lap sometimes and it sits on an NZXT Cryo LX cooling pad). Screams through just about anything I throw at it (Damn this thing does PS CS5 processing fast).
If I'd waited a bit though, I might have actually gotten the NP7280 instead. Could have gotten it with all the same goodies but with a 17.3" LED and dual Nvidia GTX-480M cards in SLI (AND USB 3.0). Wonder how much faster THAT setup would be for anything involving graphics?

Still, the current setup is up to spec for use as a 3D HTPC (and should be decent when I get around to editing 1080p video). Just need to get a decent display when the geniuses finally make more 3D material available (as opposed to all their stupid Exclusive releases where you can ONLY get the 3D movie with the ourchase of XXX brand's 3D TV).

I can understand a gaming laptop if you want to game over sea's, but other than gaming on a vacation or deployment, there is no need to waste money on a gaming laptop. I have a few military friends that also bought a gaming laptop for that reason. One of my friends had a $3000 dollar dell XPS laptop and my $1200 rig blew it out of the water.

For non computer hardware enthusiasts I can understand a gaming laptop for ease of moving it around I guess. For those of us that love putting computers together and upgrading the bottlenecks in our system, laptops are just frustrating because of the lack of the ability to do so. Honestly never bothered me to move my gear around for a LAN party.

Very similar setup to mine. I like to stay with full towers though. I use to have an antec 900 and the full tower just feels so much better to build with. Surprising how cheap computer can be now and still destroy every game you throw at it.

I was going to go with a full tower, but the V3 black was just too temping. All painted black internals, simple outside, I couldn't pass it up for the price I got. Plus it easily fits everything, and I have plenty of room for a 2nd video card if I want someday

It looks like a really nice case with great airflow. I have been spoiled by owning Antec cases and now I can't get away from cases with top exhaust fans. I have the Coolermaster HAF 932 and this thing is an air flowing beast. I have built with a ton of cases and this has to be the nicest one I have ever used. The only one I have built with that was similar to this was the Antec 1200. That is a really well put together case. I'm jealous of your painted black internals though. LOL. I have a DeathAdder. Trust me, it kicks the ass of my old mouse MS IE1.0 in ergonomics and performance. I had a Habu next, and it had terrible laser placement, and was really awkward to use because of how I use my mice (rolling them on my fingertips, and rotating my wrist side to side) I'd rather spend the money for a mouse that works well and doesn't hurt my wrist.

but yeah... if my CRT wasn't dying, I'd keep it forever. It's perfect for me.

I don't like wasting money either, I got my $170 headset for nearly free, or I would never have purchased it. A regular set of headphones is nearly as good for positioning versus surround sound. I never said I was an ultra 1337 gamer. You're the one claiming to have more FPS games installed on my comp than 99% of the population .

It's called spending a premium for inferior hardware. There was maybe a year of difference, which of course is significant in pc land, but it shouldn't be 2000 dollar significant. Laptop GPUs are just labeled similarly as current generation desktop GPUs. The GPUs in laptops are far inferior.

I would buy a Razer because a 20 dollar mouse doesn't have the programability or versatility of my Razer like on the fly dpi and sensitivity changing for starters. It's useful for those FPS games your so well versed in. On top of that... it looks nice and matches the color scheme of my hardware.

Not necessarily ;)

The Intel 980X in my Sager IS the desktop CPU. The Clevo d900f platform was designed specifically to allow usage of desktop CPU's in a specially designed laptop case (as are most of Sager's laptops).

I think you misread what I said. I didn't mention anything about the CPU's. A lot of the high performance laptops use the same Processors as desktops. Sager expecially. They make really nice laptops. I said GPU.

Don't get me wrong. There is nothing wrong with gaming on a laptop. Like I said earlier I have a gaming laptop myself. I have a Compal IFL90. Saying that laptops are anything but inferior to a desktop is just blatantly wrong though.

i never said laptops were superior. but they are FAR, FAR from being the inferior weaklings that you seem to portray them as. i've watched laptops evolve over the last decade. you can now have a laptop which can play ANY game on maxed out settings. it may not have the fps of a desktop, but you can still crank it up. and i doubt a lot of people actually give a rat's ass about the difference between 120 fps and 180 fps; considering what the accepted limit of human visibility is--60fps.

additionally, while nvidia has done nothing but rebadge 2-gen-old desktop cards as laptop cards; ati has been busy putting identical hardware in both desktop and mobile solutions--in many cases with only a slight dip in voltage. i've seen the benchmarks. single vs. single. sli vs. sli. crossfire vs. crossfire. mobile is NOT that far behind desktops. it will always be a little behind desktops--but that gap has been closing. it's not a "victory by a mile" as you seem to so happily proclaim.

My whole argument from the start was that the price/performance for a laptop just really isn't there for me. Yes, you can get a laptop that plays everything at max, but you pay a premium for it. My point was that you can get a desktop to do it at a much more attractive price/performance ratio. More money to color match my peripherals I guess. ;)

It was already said, but yeah - mobile GPU < desktop GPU counterpart

Case in point - we both have GPU's labeled as GTX 285's

spec 285 285M
core mhz 648 576
shader mhz 1476 1500
Mem mhz 1242 1020
mem bus 512b 256b
mem total 1GB 1GB

and most importantly
GTX 285 = GT200b chip
GTX 285m = G92b chip

Which means, effectively, you have a GPU somewhere between the 9800GTX and 9800GTX+ as they are the same architecture and similar specs. Basically, you're top of the line laptop has a 2 generation old GPU in it.

Now, this isn't saying it's bad in anyways (the G92b is the best chip nVidia has ever built if you ask me), but it shows the definite limitations of the laptop to be on par with a given desktop setup.

Then I realized my laptop just sat on my desk and I never really took it anywhere.... then I realized I had shit for power compared to a desktop... Haven't had a laptop since. My droid does everything I need it to do when I'm out and about.

Anywho, back on topic more. Anyone have a 700w power source they want to get rid of for cheap?

I just bought a second 5770 HD and according to my calculations, I wont have enough power once I install it :/

Why in the world are you playing computer games while you're on vacation? Go outside! Can't you be away from your stuff for any extended period of time?

Being connected and having your phone with you all the time is one thing, but playing unreal tournament everywhere you go is pretty ridiculous.

I guess I too could blow a bunch of money into one nonupgradable computer so that I could carry it around? Instead I have a laptop for school and a desktop so that when I want to play some real games comfortably, I can, and if it starts lagging, I can spend another 200 dollars and have it be more than capable of playing games for another year or so.

Why would you vacation in the middle of the desert if none of it interests you?

Really, the only advantage a laptop, at ANY price, has over a desktop is portability. A desktop wins in every other category and does it for cheaper. This isn't an opinion, it is a fact.

My post was directed to Max more than anything (thus why I used his and my cards for comparisons).

I dunno if I could get another ATI GPU, though. Last one I had gave me nothing but hassle in the games I played, and even their newest ones still have problems with the game I play the most. Add into that the drivers aren't as clean as nVidia's offerings, and you can count me as a green-team fanboi. :D

And I agree on the evilness that is 1920X1080 - you'll pry my 1920X1200 24" from my cold, dead, geeky hands. Best $300 I've spent (3 years ago, too).

all computers have a usefulness shelf-life; unless, of course, you're still running a k6-2 300mhz processor, and don't have any issues getting what you need out of your own pc.

experience has taught me that by the time i can no longer game on my pc, it's well beyond the "upgrade cpu, upgrade ram, upgrade video card" stage.

btw jeremy, the 58xx series of ati cards is infinitely better than most of their recent offerings. they really kicked it up a notch with the 57xx series, and the 58xx series is better still. in the mobile realm, nvidia is really trying to play catch-up at this point.

I don't use a computer to the ground. I build them with upgrading in mind so that I can maintain a solid 60+fps. I get the latest chipset, a solid processor, and 4ish gigs of ram. That way you just drop a 200 videocard in it and its good for a long while. Once performance drops beyond what I like, I drop another videocard in and good to go.

So I just picked up the Serious Sam gold edition from Steam for $10, comes with 1st and 2nd encounter both Classic and HD. Been fun playing an old school "kill waves of baddies with tons of guns and ammo" style game. I've been hooked into the STALKER series (and Metro 2033) for a while where the encounters are small and ammo is precious. Going old school has been a blast.

So whatcu playin?

I just picked up that gold pack too. I loved this game back in the day. It's nice that they redid it in HD. I would honestly rather LAN a game like this or Quake 3 than the new Modern Warfare and Battlefield games. I enjoy shooters that focus on timing and reaction speed. Not that I don't enjoy the newer shooters, but it's nice going back to the old school every once in a while.

Whenever I feel like playing again some real competition I play on www.quakelive.com There servers for the higher skilled players on there are intense. The snap shots people can make behind them while flying through the air bouncing off the walls with a rocket launcher are ridiculous.

Desktop:
AMD Atholon 64 X2 5000+ 2.6GHz
2GB Ram (looking at this I should probably upgrade lol)
8800GTS 512MB
2 500GB HD (Dual Boot Windows 7 on one, Ubuntu Linux on the other)
28" 1920x1200 Monitor
Also hooked up to 42" TV for watching videos and playing games.

Laptop:
Alienware M11X (rev1):
1.3GHz Core 2 Duo overclocked to 1.73GHz
4GB of DDR2/1066 RAM
500GB HD
Windwos 7/Ubuntu Linux Dual boot.
GT 325M

I don't do much gaming, right now the only thing I really play is FIFA 2011 (just upgraded from PES 2010) but it seems a bit choppy so it might be time to upgrade the video card. I absolutely love my size of my desktop monitor..can't say enough about screen real estate. Although Fallout New Vegas looks like t might be fun.

But I also love the portability of my laptop, I take it everywhere with me...work, class, friend's houses. It's got great battery life when you switch off the GT 325M graphics card and use the integrate one. But if I decide I want to play a game at a friend's house, I can plug it into a wall (or play 1-2hours off battery) and play pretty much any game available at acceptable quality. Oh and did I mention it's only 11" ;)

Ibuypower Palladin 870

Intel I7 940, OC'd to 3.7 ghz
6gb DDR3-1600 Corsair ram
EVGA Nvidia GTX295
ASTEK Water cooling for the CPU
500gb drive, and a 64gb Solid State drive
23" monitor and a 17" monitor side by side, works pretty good.
Cloolermaster HAF 932 full size case.

I have had this computer since April of 09 and have only had a couple lockups and freezes in that time. It has been incredibly stable and has performed better than I expected it to. I paid about 2100 for it so it is pretty high end but it was build correctly and I couldnt ask for better support than from IBUYPOWER.

It plays mostly any game at 60+ fps, of course shit like crysis with AA way up it slows down some but thats expected. I played through Mass effect 2 at MAX graphics and never saw it drop below 60 fps once. Plays SC2 with mostly everything turned up except relections at 50-60 fps. Its a good rig. You get what you pay for.

My only gripe is that the video card fan is LOUD. About the time I built this computer GPU water cooling was just getting big and it wasnt an option to have the 2nd inline water block for the GPU, so I have to live with the fan blasting at 80% when I play a GPU intensive game.

Anyways, heres the pics, yes I know I need to clean off the radiator, air cans are expensive as hell nowadays.

Before this computer I was buying new rigs every 2 years, I am pretty sure this one is going to last at least 3, I mean, they really havent got that much better in processors or video cards than what I have (or what anyone actually even NEEDS, gaming included). I didnt buy new computers due to them wearing out, my brother has my PC I bought in 2004 and it still runs strong, and my friend bought the one I built in 2006 and it plays starcraft 2 at 50 fps, I just always want bigger and better but so far, another 2000 dollars for a marginal improvement isnt worth it to me.
