Hi All,

I'm looking at a set of Advanti NOVA wheels and there is a shop in FTG that is selling them in 19"x 8.5" with a 40+ offset and I would like to know if they will fit. The have 35+ offset listed in their ebay ad but 40+ on their website.

NEW 2011 Model 19" Advanti NOVA suit FORD NISSAN MORE (eBay item 150560614088 end time 11-Mar-11 09:35:38 AEDST) : Cars, Bikes, Boats (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NEW-2011-Model-19-Advanti-NOVA-suit-FORD-NISSAN-MORE-/150560614088?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item230e1ca6c8)

The Wheel Deal (http://www.thewheeldeal.com.au/product_info.php?cPath=2_107_299&products_id=2292)

So need someone with a 1st gen TT to drive over and test fit a wheel.

Cheers,

Joe

Well gave the guy in FTG the measurements and it looks like the wheels will hit the inner edge of the caliper so these are no good. So I ordered these today. AUD$945.00 delivered

Well the last thing I needed to do before changing wheels was to remove the old lock nuts which I managed to lose the key for. So using the old bash a socket on the nut and try to remove them got 3 of the 4 off. The last one just will not come off. It just shreds the nut so with every attempt it gets worse and worse and reduces my chances little by little...... so now I'm fucking screwed  Might have to take it around to a mates workshop on the weekend and see what can be done. use a smaller socket? or a deeper socket?

even better...use a torch on it (gas torch)....always works + some WD40...WD40 it tonight...then attack with torch etc tomorrow...:D.

GTOJOE
03-02-2011, 05:25 AM
Don't have a torch.... and I think my can of WD40 ran out last time I used it LOL. I started with a 19mm socket whcih worked for the 1st 2 then tried both of the others with the 19 and both slipped. went down to an 18 and with a LOT of effort and hammering I got another one off. Last one slipped with the 18 so went to a 17 and same thing. Now it's almost a round nut

GTOJOE

Well I got the nut off using my mates easy off nut remover tools. Took all of 5 mins. So tonight I decided to test fit the wheels. And they don't fucking fit. Have to grind off some of the inside edge of the caliper. How fucking annoying. And have to do this before 11:30 cus that's when they are fitting them LOL.

MR2

damn....take lots of PHOTO's!

Well started filing/grinding down the edge of the caliper to make the wheels fit. However ran out of time and headed into town. Stopped and bought some spacers so I could just get it done and finish the calipers another day. However yesterday I also noticed that my old wheel nuts would fit the new wheels but every socket/wheel brace I had was too thick to fit in the holes. So went into the tyre shop and explained this. They checked all of theirs and concluded that I need 20 new wheel nuts. The type that have the allen key instead of a regular nut. So I called every shop in town and not one of them has them instock in M12x1.5. FOR FUCK SAKE I'm so over this whole thing. So left the wheels at the shop and they are ordering me a set on Monday so they arrive Tuesday. So hopefully Tuesday I will have them done. They also told me that if I use the spacers they won't fit them back to the car cus they are illegal so they will make me bolt them back on.

So.... they next question is how much can safely be removed from the calipers? this is what I have done so far and it's still not quite enough.

oh, and to get a socket on the nuts, use a SPARK PLUG socket ;)

GTOJOE

oh, and to get a socket on the nuts, use a SPARK PLUG socket ;)

Already bought some 4mm spacers and I already tried every socket I have. Including the sparkplug sockets :p Would just rather not use the spacers.

MR2
03-05-2011, 02:14 AM
odd, my tuner nuts will only work with my spark plug suckets...but then I've got metrinch sockets which are specially designed to not need thick walls.

wait! you were trying to use stock nuts? there's your problem right there....I told aspec to ship me tuner nuts.

GTOJOE
03-05-2011, 02:24 AM
Yeah If I had been thinking about it properly I would have ordered new nuts as well. But I didn't know I needed them. Not sure what your Tuner nuts are but what I need are like lock nuts that have a hex/allen key instead of a normal nut.

like these

MR2

I'm sorry but anything requiring a decent amount of torque that's allen key design is a BAD idea. (short of impact bolts and sockets)...

GTOJOE
03-05-2011, 03:21 AM
What bolts are you using then? I was wary of the design as well but then my mates car had the same nuts with no problems. The other option is the skinny locknut type like this.

http://wheelandtyrepackages.com.au/images/lock%20nuts.jpg

As long as the key for the nuts fits in the wheel.

note the different SEATING of the nuts as shown in that last link...never bothered to check that with the XXR rims...but usually it's 60 degree angle...of note the stock GTO nuts are a MAG seat..so definitly not compatible.

None of those will work on my wheels. Not even the titanium ones you just creamed yourself over :p I think the only option is the first pic I posted or a very skinny lock nut. as long as the keys outside diameter is not more than 20mm.

MR2
03-05-2011, 05:59 AM
according to the website, your wheels require conical nuts (the tuner style)

XXR Wheels - Style 962 Deep Lip Rims by XXR (http://www.nlmotoring.com/XXR-962-Wheels-19x8-5-Gold-p/96298787.htm)

and they list these as specifically compatible with your wheels:

Lug Nuts - Muteki, Project Kics, Spline Drive & Tuner Lugs (http://www.nlmotoring.com/Lug-Nuts-s/64.htm)

and I guarantee you the Titanium TiKORE nuts would fit, as would the Rays Formula ones :p

I'm sure you've got more than 20mm to play with...have you measured the maximum socket size you can fit in the hole?

MR2
03-05-2011, 06:18 AM
also are you stock struts? how close is your rim to the strut? care to take a pic? (pleaseeee)

GTOJOE
03-05-2011, 06:29 AM
We are going in circles here LOL. I already have what you call tuner nuts [which have the 60 deg tapered seat] but they don't work cus the socket doesn;t fit. The only ones that will work are these. Same as what I posted earlier. As for clearance I'll check my photobucket for pics.

wonder if I can get some titanium versions of those made up...assuming they fit in the rims...would be after some titanium studs too.

of other interest I noticed that in some lightening threads they suggested cutting v's of metal out of the brake hat mounting surface (the hub thinggy) kinda an interesting idea.....buuut I don't know if I'm that desperate hahaha.

I think you will prob have to end up with the same ones I have. I got 20 for $40 at Repco but I think that's less than retail as my mate is the manager.
