Best way to ship a sub box?

Is there a way to ship a sub box without it costing an arm and a leg? I've seen very large boxes on ebay that ship for $35, but the post office wants $70 to ship a behind-the-seat box. UPS is a half hour drive away. Is there some sort of magic word, hints, tips?

USPS hates big boxes and will charge more than anyone over a certain dimension/weight.

You forgot to let us know where your shipping from and shipping to. Sometimes standard freight haulers like "BestWay", "YellowFrieght", "R&L", etc. have decent rates if they have room on one of their trucks that's going in the right direction. Sometimes they will even come by and pick it up at your door.

Yellow, R&L and the like have ridiculous rates anymore. R&L used to be one of the cheapest but stopped a lot of their "free services"

Don't even use USPS for large boxes. Their rates are downright ridiculous. 30 minute drive to UPS is nothing. The closest UPS to me is 40+ minutes. If you have a Staples near you, they usually have a UPS drop off center and can save you the trip.

I set up an account on UPS.com and do my labels myself, then just drive to Staples and drop it off. Staples is still 30 minutes from me.

You will find a courier company will be the best way to send it but unless you have an account or know someone that does your up shit creek...

Thanks for the info so far. I'm trying to buy one of Spyder's behind-the-seat sub boxes, I'm not sure where he's at (I'm guessing west coast based on price quotes?), but it would be going to 25414.

Depending on the dimensions of the package and convenience factor you may want to consider Greyhound. I had a 2G rear bumper shipped to me that way with no issues. Some people have had problems with Greyhound though so it might be hit and miss.

Some people don't have a Greyhound option because they don't have a Greyhound depot within 50 miles too.
