I'm in the process of building a stealth R/T TT with a bad engine. The engine that came out of it has bent valves, collapsed lifters, all the good stuff. But I decided to wait on the rebuild until summer, as my garage isn't heated anyways.

I was thinking about buying a crate motor and dropping that in the stealth. And maybe rebuild the other motor in the spring/summer, so my SL can have a healthy engine put in it for next winter.

Only problem, I don't know where to find a crate motor, how much they cost, who makes them the best, etc. I mean I would guess Advanced Auto can get them, but I don't know if thats the route to go. Can anyone pitch in their two cents? I'd love to get away with this without spending too much over two grand. Thats pretty much my engine budget for this month.

Thanks guys,
Rob.

How many miles are on the engine? You might be best just rebuilding the heads.

WHEN do you want to do this rebuild?

i ask, because i can save you a CRAPTON of money vs. a crate motor. i'll be looking to sell a COMPLETE vr4 powerplant sometime in the coming months--and it sounds like it would be perfect for what you'd need. and 2k was about what i was looking to get for it (longblock, headers, turbos, ic, pipes, etc).

Well first off, there was 216k on the engine. I got the car in like December, so I was planning to be rebuilding from then till about March or April. But after so many setbacks, i decided it would be easier to just buy a complete engine. I've never rebuilt a motor before so I was just running on what I've read on the forums, and my very basic engine knowledge. In other words, I bit off more than I could chew, and couldn't chew it lol.

inperfectdarkness, send me a pm if you can about that engine. It would be much easier for me to just buy a complete motor. I'll be happy if I can get finished before winter in all honesty. Hell, I still have to stick in the rear wheel buckets and all that.

Thanks,
Rob.
