When did you get your license?

As I mentioned in an other thread, I got my license and started driving legally at age 14 in 8th grade. I've been driving for almost 9 years now and I'm 22.

I got my license the day I was 16, but I had a "learners permit" at 15 and I started driving then. My dad had quadruple bypass heart surgery when I had just turned 15, and since he couldn't drive anywhere I had to drive him where he needed to go.

The best part of getting my license at 16 was the test. I had to take a 25 question multiple choice test, then drive around the courthouse once and park. Then, just after getting my license we moved to Maryland where the law is much stricter. There, you have to be like 17 to get a "full" license... so, I was the only 16 year old in school that could drive myself to/from school.

I didn't get mine until 18. Drivers ed wasn't offered at my school, and being poor I couldn't afford the classes until I finally got a job. I wouldn't have been able to buy a car during HS anyway, so it didn't matter much.

Yeah technically it was a learners permit but it allowed me to drive from 6am to 10pm until I was 16. Probably because public transport just doesn't work for most of the places around here.

Which reminds me. We bought the stealth in April of 2005. I was 15 with my permit driving a Durango and pulling home the stealth on a trailer while my dad slept next to me. And thennn, I hit bumper to bumper traffic with semis in Chicago. Now THAT is a real driving test!

Nice, I did the same thing..bikes are cheap fun. Started on a little suzuki gz250. Just enough power to drive highway speeds haha.

1975 That was when I got my drivers license. However I got my Pilots license in 1974 before I could drive.

Haha, I had a Honda NX 250. It is scary when I think about it now, I used to take that little thing on the interstate at 70+ with semis. hahaha

Yeah I hear ya! I could maybe get 75 out of it, but that was wide open so any gust of wind would slow me down. I used to take a lot of back roads so I could avoid the higher speed limits lol. Oh the good 'ole days. We still have it actually. Only has like 3000 miles. Works great for when company shows up on holidays :p

Used to be able to do that here, I found out the hard way in 92 it was no more. Pissed me off as the learners permit(what we get here at 15) did me no good to ride my scooter. :(

Got my full operators license the day I turned 16, which you're not supposed to be able to do until you turn 18. For the life of me I still can't remember how I pulled it off, haha.

With that a defensive Driving and skid test and open license straight away if passed. Also old people should have to not only have to go to a Doc for approval but also do a actual driving test to show that they can still drive...

this. i was probably driving since i was 8-10 (sitting on my dad's lap; i steer, he uses the pedals). never really needed a car, the town i grew up in has 13,000 people; so i could ride my bike pretty much anywhere i needed to go. finally broke down and got a car after freshman year in college. 88 ford escort GL. better gas mileage than a prius. :)

I got my L's at 16 years and 9 months then full license at 17.

Ah, the good 'ol days. I miss that bike. I left it home my freshman year of college and was going to bring it up the summer between. But my Step Dad decided to sell it and keep the money. I paid for the bike, but the title was in his name. I'm still pissed off about that. He basically stole $3K from me and told me to stop complaining. This was one of those straws that broke the camels back situations, tt was the next week that I moved out on my own never to stay again. My room was already turned into a 3rd office (yes 3) during my senior year of high school.

I too am surprised how many people got theirs at 15. I was the only one in my class of over 500 at the time!
