Closed!!!!

After talking more to them i found out they would not warranty the two piece aluminum shaft because the carrier bearing would be riding on aluminum. which is for race use only because they will not last too long. So we renegotiated on providing just the second half to your existing drive shaft replacing the second and third piece. as well as the typical steel aluminum combo. and came up with 700.00 for the combo shaft with oem replacement carrier bearing and 500.00 for just the second half(replacing stock 2nd and third pieces) I am having mine done right now and will post up more info on them later

Man!

Four days after I receive mine from 3sx they put them on sale for $100 cheaper. Now you guys have this going on.

Looks like I'm a day early and a dollar bloated...

Cool to see a true 2 piece aluminum option.

Thanks!

I will find out the weight in the morning when they open up. These are being made for us per our spec. ETA is 3 days after i place the order for 7 of them they will be done and ready to ship. After that we should have atleast 2 in stock at all times

This and the other questions.

22.7LBS. Carrier bearing is another story I have my option of being able to use a stock replacement or an aftermarket one similar to the factory just different ID bearing. So i am asking you guys what would you prefer. A proprietary Bearing or factory replacement

All else being equal, a factory unit would be preferable in my opinion. The 3SX unit concerns me due to the possible need of sourcing said bearing in 10 years.

Thats what i was thinking. But i can honestly say i dont know how well factory bearings hold up. I never had a problem with them personally

Factory carrier bearings are like $95ea. I'm sure there is a cheaper aftermarket option

OK i can get them in factory spec but below factory price this way 10 years from now you could always use a factory one if the aftermarkets aren't available

sooo, comparison of weights all on a single post?

Mine are epically loose after a few 160MPH runs, it's a clunk fest.

I suppose I'd be open to whatever the professionals think is best, and if they recommend a common CB which is shared with another platform, we could probably rest easy.

Lets talk freight to Australia before we talk putting my name down.

Weight 22.7lbs vs 40lbs stock unit this is without carrier bearings. the carrier bearing is about 2lbs

Just for reference:

This Shaft is 23lbs no Carrier
PST is 27lbs no Carrier

4lb saving :p :)

also, can you get one made and tested for yourself before you go to the trouble of freighting to everyone else??

Why are we going 3 piece? Is there concern with a straight shot? Just wondering, im looking into having a full alum. made, also having the proper set up to hold the straight shot of force helps wonders.

limit on aluminum is 67" which is not long enough. this is why a 2 piece has to be made. or single carbon shaft. if you are looking for a straight shot there is another group buy here for some carbon fiber shafts.

Theres a limit on the length of aluminum for structural purposes im assuming your referring about, correct? And increasing the radius wouldn't benefit it's strength at all? Im just venturing out there to see if one can be built, im pretty confident it can be done with the proper weight to length measurements to eliminate all the bearings, and not have to use cf to avoid vibrations at different speeds.

basically you would have to have the shaft machined out of solid stock to get the diameter and wall thickness you would need. (this is what i was told) I think i want to investigate it further. I know I can get a pretty thick walled piece of aluminum from my supplier.
