If a car has an oil filter relocation kit, do you need to pour in more engine oil to compensate for the increased volume of kit, or still just go buy what the dipstick says?

Go by the dipstick. Fill with engine oil, run for 5 minutes, shut it down and check again. Top it off as necessary.

you will need to pour more in, to match the dipstick level :)

The manual says that the system holds 4.6L. I first pour in one 4L bottle and it already says that its full on the dipstick. I usually pour in another 0.3L, since the oil filter sits above in the engine bay.

anyone found a really good oil filter relocation kit? I keep looking and finding stuff I'm not sure will work!

Not sure which kit I've got, since it was on the car when I got it from Japan. It was installed in a pretty awkward spot as well, between the firewall and intake plenum. Might see if I can move it to some place better...

Just curious what benefits there are to relocating the oil filter?? Free up space down below??

I've not seen people use that space for anything else anyway...generally it allows the use of more/larger filters and is easier to get to during oil changes :)

Only thing I could think of is a single turbo build maybe? Do you need more/larger filters? And you still have to get under to drain oil lol

more/larger filters is in theory larger time between filter changes and in theory lesser back pressure induced by the filtering process, easier as in you don't have to get your hands up there and possibly a tool to get up there and change the filter, instead you can simply lean over the engine bay and off you go.

:stupid:

double filters = almost zero pressure drop

Greddy Generic Unit?
GReddy 12004901 Oil Filter Relocation Universal Kit (http://www.frsport.com/GReddy-12004901-Oil-Filter-Relocation-Universal-Kit_p_13758.html)

Actually, it appears that we run the same Mobile One oil filter as the Acura Integra, 1.6, 1.7, & 1.8L blocks, from years 88-01, so, we should be able to run the following specific kit:
12054901 - http://www.alamomotorsports.com/greddy/grd_oilrelocation.html

The only drawback is that Greddy recommends you run their specific filters, which I'm unfamiliar with, quality wise.

This would make it quite a bit easier to run the hamburger/sandwich style oil pressure gauge option, without creating too much of a low point under the vehicle to worry about bumping/dragging.
