Ok, so after having my car sit for over 2 months I'm going to rebuild my transmission on my own... Anyone have some advice on where I can get information on this process? It's a 3000GT 5 speed FWD. I have already taken all the bolts off but can't seem to remove the bull housing. I was told to remove the shift selector but Have not figured that part out... The VR4 seems to have bolts holding it in while the Regular doesn't. If you can help in any way please call me 626-512-8150

You start the disassembly on the opposite side of the trans on a FWD model. You'll have all your gear sets sitting in the bell housing when you are done removing the cases. Start with the end case, then remove the 2 36mm nuts and pull off 5th gear and the idler gear. Then, you will unbolt the mid case from the bell housing and remove the one bolt that goes through the side of the mid case that holds the reverse idler gear. This will allow you to remove the mid case.

Now i just need the 36mm Socket. =/

To remove the 5th gear assembly, you'll need to punch the dowel pin for the shift fork through. Then it will just slide off. The intermediate gear will need to be pry'd off. It's a bit of a bitch some times.

The reason I'm taking it apart is my differential blew up, or something did I have 3 holes all around my dif housing. I'm not sure what when wrong but before this happened i felt like it was locked up whenever i was using reverse. Would you happen to know where I might be able to get the parts inexpensively?

You'll want to finish opening up the trans before ordering parts. At a minimum you will need atleast some new gears for your differential. Those are a little over $100 from the dealer. Then you may be able to repair the bell housing depending on what it looks like inside, but it's best to just swap it out with a good one. I can help you out on some of the parts once you get the trans open. There may be other damage caused by the differential going bad.

The odd thing is this happened 30 miles from home and I was able to drive it home this way. When I inspected everything both driver and passenger wheels where getting power and all the gears worked fine. No grinding of gears, all entered smoothly, no weird noises. In fact the only reason i knew this happened was because I smelt the gear oil. So I'm hoping that was a good sign.

You're still in for some work. I've decimated 3 diffs. I was able to drive two of them home.
You're going to need at least a diff and a bell housing.

I bought a 3000GT from a local guy and he said it was leaking gear oil. The car drove perfectly fine but had a pin hole in the bell housing. Before that, I had bought a stealth and the trans was locking up both going forward and reverse. There was no hole in the bell housing until I pulled it into the garage and got it on the lift. Both cars had bad differentials.

I found this price on parts what do you guys think?
FRONT DIFFERENTIAL SPIDER GEARSET
$145. 93-99 FWD (larger axle)
RIPGRIP FRONT DIFFERENTIAL - FWD type
It's a limit slip insert for your transmission's open-style front differential that seems to work pretty good considering the price. CNC'd from steel and paired with some high tension springs so you get the most lock-up possible.
$100. FWD FRONT DIFF W/ RIPGRIP EXCHANGE.
So for around $245 I get new gears and limited slip dif. Is that a good price?

Don't waste your money on the insert.

MD743334 is the gear set. MitsParts.com | "Mitsubishi Parts" | "Mitsubishi Accessories" (http://www.mitsparts.com)
Call them up and order up that part number. They have them on their site for $129, but sometimes when you call it will be cheaper.

Does it not work? Have you had bad experiences with it?

So my guess is that teamrip.com is a good place to get parts for transmissions?

I have not personally had a bad experience, but bought a busted transmission that had one in it. It doesn't make the diff any stronger. Any amount of wheel hop will still cause a blown diff.

Last I heard people were having issues getting in contact with team rip. I emailed him months ago about parts and never got a response. The site Hans gave you is a Mitsubishi dealership.

Let me back that up, as I have blown a diff with the insert in it, and to be honest I don't think it really helped anything. Wasn't really worth it.

Looks just like my trans last year. Did the exact same thing you said, diff looked the same same with the case. Luckily a local member had a trans only charged me 100 bucks. I just had to switch out the 2nd gear from my bad trans into the one I bought.
I was worried about getting it back together but it was bad at all. Not to mention the damn near 600.00 bucks i saved on labor from a shop.

Hans, Thanks a lot man. Big help! Sadly if I was still waiting for some help on socal3s I would still be trying to figure out how to get 5'th gear off lol... Nobody seems to know how...

Yeah, I hear the rumors but if it was true then by now ebay would not allow them to use the site. I would only imagine...
My part has already been shipped. So the only bad thing that can happen now is its not what they said it would be...

Which is exactly there problem. They ship the wrong stuff all the time then claim you are lying. Hell they were selling an "axle" from a 3s on ebay. Only problem was it was only the very end of the axle and they said it wasn't broken.

That's too thick of a gear oil. Our transmissions use a 75-90. I just use Pennsoil Synchromesh for the fwd transmissions. You'll want to get 3 quarts. It should take just over 2.

Agreed with the Pennsoil Synchromesh! It's good stuff for these trans. My last FWD trans had some grinding in 1st-2nd. Changed out to the Pennsoil and all gone. Something about the FWD syncro's just works well with that oil.
