So I have a 1993 stealth base with 168k mi. Mechanically it is not in the best shape.
It's burning oil, not sure if its vss or rings maybe even a bhg. I like the car and was considering just rebuilding the engine with some goodies like 3sx reground 12v cams and maybe a single turbo. I've also kicked around the idea of selling the car in the shape it is for cheap or fix it for a bit more profit. I have more than enough space to work on it and it isn't my DD. Also I make ok money at work so parts wouldn't take long to save for. So what are your ideas/opinions/flames?
Now on to the pics.

I definitely wouldn't put any money into modifying the engine. I would save up and find a VR4/TT if performance is what you want. Other than that, I would make it look good and drive it 'till it blows, then worry about the engine. If that doesn't sound good, sell it, you'll save a lot of money and time.

Of course, if you have the rebuild bug, just start tearing it apart. That's what I do. Be warned though, it usually isn't the most financially sound choice.

Sell it and get a R/T TT or VR4! You'll be happier in the end....well maybe.

unfortunately, you own the red headed step child of the 3/s world; the 1g base stealth. selling it in current condition would be lucky to net you over a grand to 1500.

here's my $.02. buy the vss and do the work yourself. if that fixes it, great, problem solved. use the car as your new DD and sell whatever else you have and buy a vr4. if it doesn't work, you're not out too much $$$, and you've saved yourself a headache.

what you have is a great DD car. it's worth more as that. for the time and hassle to make what you have into a vr4, you could have bought 2 vr4's.

Thanks for the advice guys. I know if i sell it as is I shouldn't realistically be expecting more than 750-850. I figure if i fix the bit of body damage and throw a head gasket set at it. (Since I have randomly disappearing coolant, forgot to mention that) I will be able to get a bit more cash out of it. Right now on rock auto i can snag a gasket set and bolts for 120 shipped. I also have a timing belt kit for it laying my house around somewhere. Anyone near Houston Tx interested in teaching me how to do vss? Last time I did a head gasket set on a 3/S the head shop put the vss on for me.

the sohc is much more forgiving than the dohc. if you mess up the timing, it won't grenade your engine automatically.

after fixing the engine why not purchase rt body parts, its a easy converson. you might check stealthee to see what he has.

3kgt conversion is even easier. tell me where you live, and i can point you in the direction of who might have parts. heck, i've got a 2g rear conversion sitting in my garage--if you happen to live close by.

I've debating the same thing with mine, it's a '95 base, I own a TT as well though too, I've been thinking, and I'm going to keep mine, eventually buy a parted out VR4/TT rolling chassis and pull everything from my base and put it into the the rolling chassis and single the SOHC, it'll be a little lighter in the front end with that engine and be kinda cool...and fun to do, I've got all my body conversion parts already and might get to doing that this summer. They're good DD cars not much to worry about and as mentioned, timing is forgiving, I remember when I did the belt the first time, I some how managed to be off a tooth, car ran gutless on bottom, but fine on top ha, had to pull it apart and fix it, but no biggie. The SOHC is fun and forgiving and great to tinker with as far as learning and experimenting with...

I put a price of 4k on mine last summer to see if anyone would wanna buy it, cuz I was gonna take the money and put it into the TT, but I got lame offers of 1k and trades, it's worth more than that to me, I've got a lot done to it, interior mods, gauges, solid mounts, lowered, control arms etc...so I might as well keep it and do as I mentioned, swap it all into a TT of sorts...

My opinion, keep it, but it all depends on your personal preference, time and money...I like to wrench on things.....
