I've been looking for a good alternative to the beat to hell bumper on my Stealth but have had no luck in finding anything that'll make it stand out in my home town. Will a 99 bumper cover fit on my car without heavy modification?

From what I see in some comparison pictures, the only real issue is the rounded edge on the snake eyes. I was thinking, as I am plannin on some robo-modded 2gs and 2g buckets a little later on, if I just square off the snake eyes for now will it work? I'll also be looking for a decent 2g Stealth bumper cover to make the 99 a little more fitting.

Thanks for helping a body noob out!

No, it will not properly fit the pop ups without modification. You would need to "weld" the top half of your 1g bumper to the bottom half of the 99 bumper. That would defeat the purpose if you plan on going 2g later.

That looks pretty bad to me, I think I'll just be biting the bullet and going for the 3SX 1g 99 Bumper...

Hilbilly Homeboy needs to post pics of his old car. That was a 1g RT that looked awesome because it was done right.

:w00t: That's EXACTLY the look I want! Any idea how much it took to make it look like that? Hell, If I can make one look that good I would scrap the whole idea of 2g headlights.

A shop did it, but basically they cut the top portion of his stock RT bumper off, then took measurements and cut the top portion of a 99 bumper off. They then used proper methods to join the two.

What do you think it'd run me roughly to have something like that done? Sorry about all the questions, but I'm not all to savvy on my body work.

I do like the way Hillbilly squared up the boomerangs with the pop-ups.But those are old pics of "Abbie".Iceman_ii's car is much better now.Even if the boomerangs are a little wide.Blacked-out turned out much better.

He didn't "sqaure up" anything. He used the top half of the 1g bumper.

I'm sorry but "abbie" still looks bad. It's a hack way to make it fit.

As far as the time it would take, it all depends. One could do it themselves if they trusted themselves enough to take proper measurements and do precision cutting. Joining the two is done with a rubberized compound made specifically for urethane bumpers.

It's kind of like the difference in a 99 conversion between cutting a 1G bucket to fit 3G lights or welding 2G buckets and have it done the right way. 1G buckets work but it just doesn't look right compared to the real deal.

The cutting of the two I have complete faith in myself, but the joining is where I would be left stranded as that's where my skills end for the most part. I can do simple spot filling and sanding, that's about it. So I think I'd leave the joining to a local shop here to play with.

If I were to do a complete 99 conversion I would absoloutly do a bucket swap, I had seen one with modded 1g bucktes and it just didn't look to be lined up very well. Not to mention it looks out of place when you pop the hood.

The only car I have seen to pull it off was gabbers car but he had the novara bumper which is a little different.

That orange car looks great, almost makes me want to reconsider doing the '99 front-end conversion.

I'm going to look around and see how much it's going to cost to do this. I love the 99' bumper on 1st gen stealths.

Likewise man! If you find the info and a price to do this before I do post up your findings if it's not too much :)

Yeah wingnut that bumper is sick! I have always wanted to see a car with that bumper and cianci's viper style hood. It would be a mini viper! (Except more badass by having turbos and awd. :D)

I think I'd like the look of that one a little more if it was a little closer to the ground, seems to look too "stubby". If they brought it down say 2-1/2" - 3" It'd be perfect for the look I want.

Well, I don't think you want the bumper to go below the sideskirt then it doesn't look right, imo.

J_Parker

Not quite that low lol. I had seen a side shot of that bumper installed and it looked as if the bottom of the valence was formed upward a little, if I can dig up a picture I'll post it.

Sorta looks like it's sloping upward a little to me.

I think it might be your eyes playing a truck on you due to the angle of the shot.

Perhaps, that's the best shot I can find though. Looking a little closer though, his car does look to sit up a little high, no?

Nope it's sloping up.Unless there are two models of this bumper. We had a guy at the TXGathering'08 who had one it was bent up,and wavy along the spoiler lip.Looked like ass.

Thought so! The wavy lip is just another thing I had added to my list of NFG craftsmanship, if they did a better job on that I would be all over it in a heartbeat though.

splicing urethane bumpers should be done with plastic welding. any other method is inferior, imho.

fwiw, i will be splicing bumpers together for my car sometime next year. i'll be having a repair shop do all of the work.

Lol. no worries! Me too :p If what I'm working on right now doesn't woek out I'll give this a try for sure! I'm just pretty well making a whole custom deal out of the old 91 bumper and a shit load of spray foam/plaster.

How off would 99 or even 2g headlights be on a 1g Stealth. I know it wouldn't be a perfect fit and you would need 2g buckets but the overall shapes look fairly similar. I just think that bumper would look sick with projectors attached to it.

The area between the pop ups is about two inches too wide to accept projectors.
