View Full Version : 99 Front bumper with pop-up headlights?

Certifried

I'm debating on whether to put my front bumper back to the stock one (previous owner has some shitty fast-n-furious bumper on it) or put a '99 front on it. I love that '99 look, but I like my pop-up headlights ('93). I want to keep them.

Question is, can the '99 front bumper go on while keeping the pop-ups? If no, then I'll go to the stock front probably. To save anyone the trouble, I know with the right amount of money and work, it probably could... I'm just wondering how much money/effort to keep the pop-ups with the '99 front. Thanks!

I have been looking at that bumper for years, I can't decide if I want to go that route or just cut open a bigger mouth in the 1st gen bumper for my big ass fmic.

if you like it, go with it. some people don't like that bumper because of the turns.

imho, i don't think the 99 look works on a 1g 3kgt. it doesn't match the rest of the car.

I think it would look good if you get 2G sideskirts, 2G rear bumper and an aftermarket hood to replace the blisters. All the lines of the car will go together a lot more.

those are the ugliest 3s ive seen in that link. go with stock bumper and get the chargespeed lip. that is muchhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh , a million times better looking than the 3sx bumper.

I personally like the 99 bumper with the pop ups... My wife can't stand the 99 look unless its the real deal. She says the 99 conversions are over rated and played out..(grinch)lol.

The first one (red) is not from ED, while the second one is. I have no complaints about ED as a company, and I believe they have made great strides in improving the fitment of their products .

At the time...

Mine fit perfectly and I was impressed. Only problem I had was the un even cut around the headlights but that can be fiberglassed ezpz.

But today...

holy hater-train. LOL

This is the same bumper as the one on the white car... they all need some work around the headlights, so, we just lopped that shit off, and fiberglassed it to work with 99 headlights.... problem solved :) The mold quality from extreme dimensions sucks pretty bad, in all honesty, but, with a little time and fiberglass-finesse, it comes out pretty good. I have the same front bumper going on my spyder, just reworked the original 94-98 headlight surrounds, so it actually fits properly.

I think that if you have to spend as much or more to get a part to fit as it actually costs it's plain bullshit. If someone takes the time to develop the molds, then do it right. Don't get greedy and rip people of...

No one should have to rework with fiber glass when purchasing body parts. Sand, grind, cut, yes, re-glass, NO!

seconded. which is the only reason i haven't bought one (well that, and the fact that it's not urethane).

didn't you just buy a hood that doesn't fit well?

The kit, fenders, and rear spoiler I got from ED required minimal prepping. I opted to have the fenders and sideskirts molded on. I'm aware they had fitment issues in the past, but I think they've made great improvements. They kept my car for a while to ensure future products fit correctly.

Yet you seem to have proof with my car and their recent fitment and I called to make sure it was made after your car. There is a reason why I do not have that bumper anymore and you get what you pay for(style and quality)

no. i bought the scootie 2 in 2006. and as i've said repeatedly, if i could get another one with the defects ironed out--i'd pay double for it.

so...youd pay 400-600 for a hood? Usually hoods at that price range still do not fit right.....

Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't... it could've been old stock, I don't know. I do know that my kit and fenders lined up with no issues... ;)

You saw something in it that made you want it, and you were happy with it at first. Even showed it off at MOD (July 2010) and claimed "perfect" fitment...

Regarding hoods, I've gotten three great deals from Deftracing, partly because I can pick them up, which saves on shipping.

Maybe your parts fit because you are the only customer to buy them.

I don't recall showing off my car at mod, I just parked in a parking spot, Danf and I were making fun of my own car saying it looks like ass.

I don't care about your deals with deftracing? Who brought that company up...that was random......

Anyways you officially derailed the whole thread. In your attempts to troll LOL!!! You had no reason to bring my car into this as I have not said anything about your car until you brought this upon a personal matter. I guess you really like to start drama for your own entertainment(and this is not the first time you like to just start drama) and to think you consider your self one of the senoir members. I guess senoir members aren't mature members.

edit//// the fact that you took pictures of my own car and it's imperfections just to post online to attempt to make my car look bad is such a douche move. Perhaps my car is not the best looking 3S, it does not matter because I never said it was and my car is actually going to do something and is definitely going to put down reliable street driven numbers, that which your car can not even come close to matching up against.

Who was the asshole that started this thread, again? Oh, right, me.... about MY piece of shit car and how horrible it looks with the bastardized body kits the previous owner put on it. So get the hell out of my thread with your hatred of each others cars and focus on hating mine.

Now that the air is clear... someone mentioned the original bumper with cut out for a SMIC. I have some upgraded SMICs on... would the original bumper be able to accommodate these? I know that's a horrible question to ask without pix, I'll get some later. I'm seriously thinking of getting the look back to original vs. the semi-99 look. I looked over those pictures again, and there's something about them that bother me.... lines....

To clarify:
1. I brought up deftracing in response to imperfectdarkness' post about hoods.
2. I took pictures of your car (with your consent) to ask ED about the fitment (although you stated that it was "perfect", except around the headlights).

To the OP, my apologies for my part in getting your thread off topic.

i think he said cut for FMIC; which i've seen. i can't recall one being cut out for SMIC's, but i'm sure it's easier to do & have it look GOOD than with a FMIC. lose the fogs and you're practically there already.

p.s.

if you get a eurospec bumper (or mod up eurospec turns) and put a kaze-style lip on it...you have the absolute best look for 1g 3kgt's. just be sure that you keep the usdm light covers & snake eyes; not the eurospec ones.
