So I finally got my 19t's installed this weekend. Primed the turbos and went to start it after work and it wont roll over, cranks for a second then nothin. It makes a loud clunking sound everytime I go the start it. Sound is coming from the starter area, so I replaced it, still nothing. There is a sensor on the front of the tranny that I broke the clip to but I dont think that is the problem. Battery is fine, has new starter in it, any help would be awesome.

Are you sure the battery is fine? How are your grounds?

Yeah it's new. Also I had jumper cables from my other car on it while I was trying to crank it. It started for about 2 seconds earlier then made a wierd grinding sound then died. Now it wont start. I go to start it and it just makes a clicking/clunking sound. I'm completely lost. If I hold the key after the clunk it starts to click like crazy.

Battery needs a charge

when I crank it, it makes 1 click that's it and the belts dont move at all. safc was reading 12.8 volts when the car was off so the battery is fine.

The exhaust is off so I'm only running open o2's so the ground strap on the exhaust isn't connected. Could that be the issue? Sounds unlikely.

13.2 and up is the operating/starting area you want to be when you turn the key. Also, check your ignition.

Clean the battery terminals and make sure the grounds are on like the one from the plenum to the body.

Check your connections from your battery to your starter. Check the resistance from the battery terminals, to the terminals on the starter. I had a corroded starter cable (the thick positive cable) and the car wouldn't turn over, and I killed the starter. I could easily bump start the car, but it didn't have enough voltage to turn over by itself.
Thankfully I was at a 3s meet when it happened, so I got a push start :D

You would be surprised what can happen without the ground straps. A friend of mine fried some wiring when he didn’t have the one to the plenum and another guy had his SS clutch line catch on fire because it was the best ground he was getting without the straps. People might remove one somewhere down the line and it work OK but later on you leave another off and it screws things up. Also your logger might read OK (even though yours seems low) but when you try and crank it the volts drop like a rock.
You might be having the click click start problem also. You said you primed the turbos, was it turning over fine then?
Does the engine turn by hand?

One quick thing, do you still have the OEM hood or an aftermarket?

The engine does turn by hand. I think I found the problem. I took off the valve cover to get one of the front turbo bolts. So I took it off again today, and what do you think I saw... One of the f-ing rocker arms fell off and was jammed against the cam. So I turned the motoer by hand and got it out but hopefully it didn't do any real damage. But I cant get it to stay in place now. Is there a special way to put the rocker arms back on?

you can turn the engine and try to shove it up in there as the cam rotates. i've managed to slide one in there with out taking the cam off. But you are prlly gonna need to take the cam out.

The intake cam isnt even touching the rockers. But the exhaust cam is touching the rockers under it. WTF

Put it back together and leak down test it to see if you damaged anything. Dont forget to prime the lifter. Hope it's all good man!

Looks like the timing belt jumped a few teeth. I can rotate the motor by hand but it makes some wierd clunking noises and it only turns a few turns then stops. I have it ripped apart right now. Looks like the valves are bent.

the motor turns by hand but only turns a few turns then makes some squeeking thud sounds then wont turn anymore.
Are you sure the timing was originally set correctly? If it was off by a bit or if your tensioner fell apart or something like that, just the cranking could have done the damage.

I had the 60k done this summer and it ran fine. I put it away for the winter , installed turbos, and now this.
Wow, that sucks if the timing belt wasn't touched. I would inspect all the timing components to see if something failed. If everything's good, mabye a washer or something fell into the lower intake manifold? I suppose at this point it doesn't matter much though. Just in case, I would try to drop a magnet or something into each cylinder to make sure it's clear and turn the engine a few rotations by hand once it's fixed. You may then want to pull the eci fuse and prime the oil with the starter.
Do a search on ebay for mivec 6g72 and consider using those heads. It's 1000 shipped for that engine and it comes with a forged crank. I think redoing heads correctly can get pretty expensive.
You should be able to make more power with the mivec heads.

WOW that sucks! your tensioner must have compressed while sitting and didn't pop back out quick enough when you tried to turn it over. You might not have gotten the tensioner tight enough when you changed the belt also.
