Do you know how many times I have been driving on a road trip stoned and I can literally separate my right leg from the rest of my body and never even phase the speed? 3 hours go by and I realize I don't have cruise control on...

that's nice. it won't work for an 8-hour road trip. i've tried. i drove back from evan's house in lake worth WITHOUT cruise (actually, i drove it down there too) without cruise. it was painful.

I did a 15hr trip to Florida and back once in the 94 VR4... the only time I used cruise control was through Warner Robins, Ga, Valdosta, Ga, and North Port, FL so I wouldn't get pulled over for "speeding". I never use cruise control for some reason.

I killed a punk in an Integra on the way back from NJ in cruise control. Left it in 6th, hit the accelerate button on the steering wheel and walked away from him. Never touched the gas pedal. :D

I can't stand driving without cruise. For some reason it is really hard for me to maintain speed in this car. I always end up speeding up.

IDK if it's because my car was an NA before but every time the cruse kicks in it throws me back in the seat and boosts about 7-8psi then throws my face against the steering wheel when it lets off. I'm probably thinking when the car was still 10:1 turbo though. lol

lol on the 9b/13G combo I had it could hit 15PSI on the cruise. Not anymore...

Side Note: for the Spyders, ASC stands for "American Sunroof Company". They were the ones who designed the hardtop retractable roof. I had a friend who used to work there.

Why do we need two buttons to engage cruise and not just one like every other car?

And also does anyone else's cruise do a bad job at maintaining speed? Mines always speeding up to the target speed, holding it for a bit, decelerating and then speeding back up to the target.

we just come back from a 3,131 mile round trip to southern spain via france. the cruise was used 90% of the way, but because the car is still jap configured it wouldn't cruise past 65mph.

the reason i asked the question is a day or two before we left on the trip a light came on the dash much like a traction control warning light, i think its the one right beside the ebrake warning light. so i started to fool myself that ASC actually stood for Automatic Stability Control, then fooled my self further by trying it in the snow and ice....needless to say it made no difference lol.

The light you saw is the ABS light on a 1st gen. It also comes on when one wheels slips more than any others etc. I believe the ABS system also then pumps the pedal to slow the slipping wheel. There was a debate about it over on 3si.

this came on while sat in traffic actually going nowhere lol i lasted a few seconds and buggered off. not seen it again. i knew they didnt have any fancy trickery on the transmissions its all mechanical. and those with TC and everything els have all kinds of electronic crap on both the gearbox's, diffs and hubs.

It also alerts you when the brake fluid is low IIRC.

nah it was more of a dicky fit than anything els. used to also get random CEL too. i know all the fluids are right because it has new brake pads n disks, fluid is right up the only fluid warning light is screen wash because the tank has the same capacity as transfer case lol.

All cars have two buttons to engage it. It is part of a fail safe, you have to turn on the system before pressing the set cruise button. That way someone cannot accidentally set cruise and cause an accident. THough the fact that ours buttons are SOOOOOO far away from each other or not integrated on the same control panel is weird. haha

I have two of these, both of them I am surprised at how well the cruise control works. Now on my Sonata it does what you're describing.

I can't drive without cruise control. When I did the TT swap I swapped in an NA tranny I had laying around until I got the AWD one welded up. The speed sensor was different so instead of figuring that out I just used the GPS on my phone for a speedometer. Bad thing is there's no cruise with that. I couldn't stand it...Id' spend the whole time staring at my phone making sure I wasn't going too slow or too fast.

Oh thats right, I was only thinking of our smart car which has one button cruise. It is odd how far apart they are though, maybe just another failsafe?

On twisty roads I can, and do enjoy driving on road trips. But for the long straits, most of Texas highways, my heal starts to go numb from staying still to long if I don't use cruise control.

Sounds like you need to replace the vacuum line on it. Mine had a crack in it and did the same thing. I replaced it, and those symptoms went away.

I had replaced the whole line when I discovered most of the line was missing! but it could have cracked again, I'll have to check that.

It also could be that the tension on the cruise control cables. Seriously, when I did the cruise relocation I figured that out. Mine would "surge", I adjusted the slack out of the cables and it smoothed out.

I did the San Diego to Memphis and back for the '09 NG without cruise control and I must say, I hated it!! Speed would go up and down, and without much traffic around you, you don't realize it. Plus, my right leg would cramp up from not moving it. Cruise control switch relocation is one of my priorities for 2011.

My cruise works excellent at maintaining speed. I have been following people before with my cruise set, and there's was too. I would constantly run up on them on hills, and they would pull away from me on downhills.

There is no debate because there is no traction control on a 3s.

In the center right under the radio next to cigarette lighter. Put it to the on position then use the cruise lever for everything else..

I used to drive clear across the country towing trailers without cruise control. You guys just don't know how to drive, lol. I've only used the cruise control in my car once, when I bought it, to make sure it worked. You also shouldn't need a speedo to maintain a speed, engine note allows you to maintain speed a lot better than a speedo or cruise.

Key is to brace the side of the foot against the center tunnel. The friction of the shoe and carpet holds the throttle without you pushing. On hills, all cruise controls suck, literally. Gas milage tanks if you use cruise in hill country.

Engine note is useless when you can't hear the engine note. I'm lost without engine note, I'm constantly staring at the gauges now, so frustrating.

The 3s cruise control works EXCELLENT on hills. I've used mine driving thru the Appalachians and mileage is always 25-30 mpg.
