Anybody know what size helicoil I need for the bolts that attach the plenum to the lower intake manifold? I stripped out the threading changing my plugs out.

I would tell you but I dont remember, I did text you the size about a year or two ago lol.

Couple phones ago :P. I thought about trying to look up your old thread, but seemed like it would be easier just to ask here. Good opportunity to add information to the new site also.

Yeah, I really dont ask or post anything regarding technical stuff on the other site anymore, I want this database to grow.

I just did this about a month ago; after numerous failed attempts at using red thread lock lol; that was a waste of time. I picked up kit 770-3093 from NAPA, Helicoil Metric Thread Repair Kit. Size M8x1.25, came with drill size 21/64. This was used to replace DS stud to lower intake (attaches plenum to lower intake).

It happened to be on sale (IIRC about from 40+ bucks to under 30), but probably because I had ordered it a while ago, then didn't pick it up, cause they did not stock the item. Later I asked if it was in stock and it was and on sale.

Ah yeah, that size rings a bell. Thanks Roy.

If only we all had TIG welders sitting around lol.

Also, how you figure filling a hole up with a TIG welder and then redrilling and retapping is easier than... redrilling a hole, retapping, and putting the helicoil tang in is beyond me. Seems about the same to me. Except one doesn't involve pulling a welder out. :dontknow:

FYI they have those helicoils at Autozone or Advance for much less than $30 IIRC.

If I remember right I picked mine up at Advanced Auto for ~$24. You know which one I am talking about Dillon.

I was talking to Adam and he said I should order them of mcmaster.com. Going to have him go ahead and do my helicoils for me when I take my car up there. He is giving me an awesome deal on the whole thing. Can't wait to have the car purring again hah.

I'd think about the 3Sx stud kit....I just installed it on my car and am pleased with it. Because these things will continue to strip, one at a time, trust me, lol.

Not if you torque them properly! They only call for 12 ft/lbs (IIRC)...either that or 7 ft/lbs.

It still happens. Each of the 2 or 3 times it's happened to me i was using a T-wrench. I typically use a T-wrench for everything. The AL threads will weaken over time...
Edit: And more importantly, look at how much thread engagement there actually is into the lower manifold...not very much which is also part of the problem. If they would have added a few more threads I'd agree with you (maybe).

I am having them all helicoiled so that I wont have that problem anymore. :D

When are you going up there to get it done?
