I am needing help confirming a dimension in the hatch area of our 3s.

It would be the width between the wheel wells WITH the trim still installed. I have been going by 39" max but IIRC, that was a little on the small so I knew without a doubt that it would fit.

So anyone who has built a box between there what fits back there snug? Because I want to keep the box below the sunroof, my height is limited to 12.25". So every bit of width I can squeeze in there will help.

Thanks for dumping on my thread. Sorry I am building for something smaller than 12's.

You need to clarify your question. The spacing between the strut towers varies with height. And I'm guessing you mean the sun shade that covers the rear hatch area so you can't see behind the rear seats right?

Do you want to keep the back seats? The easiest way is to just pull out the seats and build a platform for the box to sit on. Then you can just go out and buy a generic box from anywhere and stick it right in.

I will be removing none of the interior, except the spare tire stuff.

I have NEVER just gone out and bought a "generic box". A box needs to be built to the specs of the sub that you are using. And no backseat delete for me.

With the exception of the head unit, sub box and tweeter pods. the goal is to hide it. And with the tweeter install, anyone who doesn't know that car would think that they where there from the factory.

It started with a challenge from my best friend, a "stealth" install in a Stealth. At first I just blew it off, but then the thoughts started flowing, and I cursed him but accepted the challenge.

Should be fun.

Generic as in not made specifically for the car. Obviously you have to use a box to meet the specs of the subs but most sub boxes today are built with this in mind. I wouldn't take it for granted though.

Are you thinking of running a shallow mount sub under the carpet like this...

Or maybe a setup that works with the back seats still installed. I know I have seen it done I just can't find the picture...

Nope, no shallow subs.

You still aren't really answering the question for me so let me try again. Are you wanting a box that just sits in the back so its easily movable or a box that contours to the back? Additionally are you planning on using the space between the rear seats and the strut towers to mount the box? You also mention ditching the spare tire stuff, is that just so you have a spot to mount your amp(s)?

OK

I am wanting to keep the box rectangle. None of the box will be in the "cubby" behind the seat. At this point I am needing the width at the base with the hinged cover board removed.

The spare tire and storage will be where my Amplifiers, EQ's, X-overs, Fuse blocks, ect will go.

Gotcha, I'll take a look tonight.

That would be cool. I may, MAY look into building a box where the width follows the molding, I don't know as of yet. Volume will be easiest to calculate as a rectangle, but not impossible. Getting the two slot ports the proper length on the other hand could be tricky.

I consider it cruel and unusual punishment to live in a geographic location where you get to wait for the snow to come to you.

I am currently running 1 solo barricks L5 10" sub. The box i built is made out of 3/4 mdf. The dimentions are 35" wide x 14" deep x 11.5 tall. I have no spare tire stuff just a carpet. I do have all the plastics in except the hatch cover. My box fits snug between the base of the strut towers. But i had to remove the rear wiper motor in the steath, but not the 3000gt. I do not think you can use the rear cover for the hatch or the moon roof holder. this box sits fiush with the back seats but i still have room for a strut bar. hope this helps.

great is that 6.5", 8", or 10"? Because that picture tells us nothing about size?

I have the 10" version which does not allow for the hatch cover to extend completely. The 8" should fit with no problems.

That's good and all, but I have my subs and I am building a custom ported enclosure.

Here's my setup, two 10" Infinity subs (not shallow type)

It fits without modification to the trunk area, allows the use of a strut tower bar as pictured, and is easily removed just by folding down the seats and pulling off the speaker wire.

Here's another picture, I'll try and get dimensions at some point, but I don't have a garage anymore so it's difficult to do work on my car these days. I think there was a guy on 3si not too long ago selling single sub versions of this same box, do a search and you might turn him up. I think he had like 4 in stock.

I found the sub boxes that the guy is selling on SoCal3s, they fit behind the seat like mine.
