Hesitation with a code

I was driving around today and happened to pass a Gen1 R/T TT sitting at a repair shop and had to stop and ask about it. They told me it was a farmers car and had a hesitation in it but the only code was for a knock sensor. Clear coat is coming off the wing and the front bumper needs a wash and wax bad! Tan interior and NO side bolster wear! But that's not the big part, it's got almost 21,000 miles!!! So what would cause the hesitation? The knock sensor? I want to try to pick it up cheap so what could it be?

The wires to the knock sensor have been chewed through by mice. Thats it thats all.

ECU tests the Knock sensor at 3000rpms. If it doesn't see it, it puts out a count of 7-8, and retards the timing, causing a hesitation. Probably all it needs is a new knock sensor.

Yes, it does it. Unplug your knock sensor and run a log. Once you hit a certain RPM, the knock count will stay at 8-9.

I don't know honestly, I am just going off what I saw when my knock sensor went bad and what my HHH showed. When I would kill the engine, I wouldn't kill the ecu, and it was still giving a knock count of 7-8.
