Poison was the way over the top group, for me. Great music, but those dudes definitely looked like chicks.
Jeremy
agreed about poison. sad thing is, liking their music had a negative rep attached...simply because of the rep the band had. you simply can't say unskinny bop is a bad song though. :p hair bands were 80's though. even whitesnake succumbed to it. twisted sister lampooned it. but the most epic hairdoo of the 80's has to go to eric carmen.

Trent said that Cash's remake was so good, that it's his song now, NIN will never perform Hurt.
Much, much, much better than Black Eyed Peas remixing mas que nada or misirlou, imho. Sometimes the original is just worlds better. In this case, Reznor just can't compare with Cash. And I like Reznor.

Freddy is a huge fan of NIN, it's a joke, not an insult. Trent probably has the widest range of song types of any band out there, they just only play 1 type on the radio. When I bought a couple of his special release albums

Was listening to Sirius radio the other day on classic vinyl(classic rock). They were playing records that were about drugs and sex, and one song came on that I have heard before but I dont know who it is, So I am asking for some help, and for you to bare with me on this. Its a very catchy song and the chorus seems to be, bow bow bow bow bow bow bow bow bow ba bow ba bow.

Redd, if that didn't have the artist in the title, I would have guessed KMFDM. Seriously. :)
Evan, I don't have a frickin clue. There's about a billion songs about drugs and sex:
Billy Joel - Captain Jack

Rolling Stones - Mother's Little Helper

Nah, you just seem to have an affinity for over-played pop songs. :p But, seriously, I do like that tune.
I just noticed, the video I posted didn't start at the point I told it to. Fail....
YT won't let you embed with a time stamp for some reason. You have to just use a regular url.
Jeremy
Nah. Overplayed pop songs would be like that "take a dirty picture" song. fuck i wanna stab ke$sha in the face with a pitchfork.
I just like midnight city because it has that same kind of cool vibe that "Days go by" or "Clubbed to death" has. Most radio music I hear these days just has too much that's uninspired and formulaic about it.
P.S.
How does a song get to be so popular? Well occasionally--not a lot, mind you--but occasionally a song has enough merit that it spread its popularity without having to resort to being force-fed into listeners ears on your "pop-hits" music stations.
And now on an entirely different note...this is about as simple and formulaic as you can get...but it still makes me want to smoke a bowl and kick back to reggae for 3 hours. (Oh, and if this is overplayed pop music, I NEED to know what music stations you are listening to, FFS.)

If it's pop, I hear it on tv(which is why I associate your favorite list with commercials), or around the 'net. I don't listen to top 40 stations. Ever. They're 98.3% garbage. Like that Kesha song you mentioned...never even heard of it and I know most all of her crap from simply milling around.
I only listen to classic stations. Mostly rock, but there's a 50's-60's doo-wop station I like too. So, if it came out within the last 20 years, it's most likely not going to play on my stations. In the wife's vehicle with XM, I still go for the classic stations. Except then I get to hear some old country and rap.
Jeremy
i see. well i won't take it personally if a crotchety ole' fuddy-duddy like you doesn't like some of the new music i like--even if i am picky about the newer music i listen to.

Wow, blast from the past with Ricky Nelson, and Outlaws. I think my parents wore the Ricky Nelson LP out...
I can't lie. I do like some dubstep. Biggest problem with it, imho, is that it seems like any 1 artist has about 1 good song. Maybe. And if you listen to more than a couple of that artist's songs, you really start to hear the same kind of harmonics and tonal interplay. So I end up having to scout different artists to hear songs that aren't like the rest of the dubstep I already have in my playlist.

oh please. just because marketing companies didn't abuse the everliving shit out of 70's rock back when you were a kid, doesn't mean that the music is "better". That's one of the things your Gen X doesn't get about my Gen Y--music is an inherent medium of communication to us. Marketing companies have been trying to capitalize on that since they started to figure that out in the mid 90's (before which time most commercial music was generated the same way porno music is). Just because it's abused in said fashion doesn't mean that music is inherently worse. I can think of plenty of songs in the 80's that were abusively overused/overplayed. And in the 90's/00's too (I still cringe when I hear Drops of Jupiter). Even a few from the 70's (Night Moves? Stayin' Alive?)
You like your classic rock? Fine, go with it. Some of us prefer a little bit more diversity. Not a knock against classic rock either. I'd be just as bored if all I was listening to was some of the metal posted in this thread. About the only genres that can keep me entertained by itself is FUNK & possibly reggae. Speaking of which, here's my all time fav:

Thing that blows me away is that she was 17 when she recorded that album.
We have no stations that play anything but 70's/80's/90's, and hiphop anymore. :(
After a while, even 70s/80s/90s sounds boring--because they mainly stick to the songs with the most radio airplay. I don't remember the last time I heard Duran Duran's "Skin Trade" or Karyn White's "The Way You Love Me" ON THE RADIO. And I can't stand hip-hop because they only play current crap...and I only listen to the stuff from ~1995 and before.
But at least you don't have only stations that play country. I'd never even turn on the radio if I had to endure that. Thank god a cheap MP3 player is like $40 shipped on ebay & I have virtually unlimited access (free & legal) to all the music I want--provided I can find it in a flash video.

It's an unfortunate side effect of the the modern copywrite issues... There is no such thing as an independent radio radio station, or artists(read record company that owns them) that would just be happy their material is getting air time. Everyone needs to get paid, and that gives us radio with "licensed" playlists that will make you want to throw things though a speaker even if you loved the song the first 600 times you heard it...

It's not everywhere. WTTS in Bloomington 92.3FM was still (last time I checked) a fantastic station. COLLEGE radio station, so they don't stick to formulaic crap. WTTS was the first place I heard John Mayer's "no such thing"--a good SIX MONTHS before any other station had picked it up. WTTS was the first station I'd heard Jack Johnson (Flake)--and that was about a year before anyone else ever played it. WTTS was also the first place I heard Eric Clapton's cover of "somewhere over the rainbow" and John Melloncamp's cover of "stones in my passway" (the latter of which I've NEVER heard played on any other station--ever). WTTS introduced me to Indigenous (if you love SRV, you'll like Indigenous). I think I even was introduced to Poe by WTTS (either that or X103)--and that was back in 2002. Ben Lee was another artist I found on WTTS--and that was TWO FREAKING YEARS before "catch my disease" was used and abused by a Dell commercial.
Point being, since it was (hopefully still is) a college-ran station, that it isn't subject to all the monotony of "current hits" radio stations. Only reason I stopped listening was I moved out of the state. :(
