This will actually turn into a (re)build thread, but since progress is going slow waiting on parts I'll build some hype first. How this is going to play out is I'll post some random hints every now and then until I have enough progress and pictures to actually post something worth posting.
First hint: It's built by Nissan, in Japan

Need more info.
My guess for now is a 1.8L Sentra:smile-new:.

I'm guessing Doug told everyone, lol. Did Doug tell you how rusty it was and that you can touch the engine with both hands through the wheel well through a rust hole?
Next hint: It is AWD, more specifically it has the Nissan attesa-ets AWD system.

Yeah, Doug spilled the beans on it.

Is the steering wheel on the wrong side?
anyonebutme
02-15-2018, 02:15 PM
Steering wheel is on the correct side for where it was sold...
Cop out answer, lol. Since I know where you are going, I will say it's a LHD car, I will also say it was also sold as a RHD car in it's native market under a different brand.
Next clue, it is not turbocharged.

I was really just trying to date it... If it was a legally imported JDM, that would have narrowed it down significantly...
I'm clueless. But my best guess at this point would be a G35
anyonebutme
02-15-2018, 05:42 PM
Not a g35. Also not a Sentra.

02-15-2018, 07:43 PM
Not a Pulsar

02-16-2018, 09:33 AM
Today's clue: It is powered by a VQ35DE, better known as the 350Z engine. That should give you a date range and eliminate the Nissan Laurel.

Today's clue: It comes with HID headlights with electric height adjustment so you can aim them lower or higher with a knob while driving. IIRC the EVO also had optional height adjustable headlights in some models.

In this case, would it be primarily to compensate for a periodic load related change in rake? Are we talking about a truck here?
anyonebutme
02-19-2018, 12:40 AM
I guess so. It is not a truck. I guess I'll clarify (as little as possible lol) for today's clue.
It has unit body (unibody) construction, it does not have a latter frame. Bonus clues, it does not have a truck bed nor does it have leaf springs.

Today's clue: In addition to heated front seats, it has heated rear seats

Nissan Pathfinder maybe?
anyonebutme
02-19-2018, 03:55 PM
Pathfinder doesn't have AWD, only part time 4x4. At least in this generation. Also doesn't have hid headlights. But you're really close.
Bonus clue, rear seats recline in addition to being heated. Tomorrow's clue will include a lesson in Japanese Nissan dealerships, and why only certain dealers sold this vehicle there. It's an odd system that still exists today due to the fact Nissan is actually a few different car companies put together by the Japanese government.

Super condensed small history lesson time. Nissan is composed of multiple companies who until very recently operated like separate companies. This is mostly Prince, Datsun, Nissan, Aichi, and probably a couple others. So the dealers sold cars based on their location (price and style), think brand engineering before that existed. Upscale cities had a "Nissan" store that sold upscale cars only, ect.
So there was Nissan Prince Store, Nissan Satio Store, Nissan Cony Store, Nissan Bluebird Store, Nissan Premium, stuff like that. Wasn't until late 90's early 2000's when that was changed to Nissan red stage and blue stage stores.
Clue #1: My car's platform mate was sold at the Bluebird store, but mine was not because it cost too much. Even though it is considered by most to be a trim package of the brother car, but like a GTR is a trim package of say a GTS. You'd have found my car at the Nissan Premium Store before the changeover.
Oh - well, that explains everything.
No idea why you'd buy a Quest, but what do I know?
anyonebutme
02-20-2018, 08:22 PM
Nope, not a Quest, lol. Yea, the dealership thing is even more bizarre than that, because Japan. At least in America when brand engineering became a thing we put different names on cars, AKA Ford Lincoln Mercury. There it was Nissan Nissan Nissan, but you still had to go to a different dealer to get the nicer or cheaper cars.
Speaking of minivans, I recently saw a turbocharged and lowered Honda Odyssey on Volks. If my life were to end, I could think of worse vehicles to be stuck with, lol.
If I hadn't already shared my Vetta Ventura story/pic, I could played this game pretty well, I think.

Today's clue: It had an optional smart cruise control which used a laser sensor to keep a set distance from the car in front. Mine didn't have this option, but it was available.
I stiill have no idea what you bought, but I'm pretty sure it has some fancy-pants cruise-control system...

Cima?
anyonebutme
02-21-2018, 06:20 PM
Nope.
There's only been like 10 vehicles that used the Skyline GTR's ATTESA ETS AWD system, less that were available LHD, and even less that isn't powered by an RB engine. Honestly I didn't expect this thread to last more than 3 days, lol. Good news is it allows me to get more progress done and take more pictures.

LOL. I just threw a guess out there based on the adaptive cruise control. I didn't take any of the other clues into account when I looked that up.

I've researched this more than I care to admit, and I think it's some oddball version of the Murano that I can't find. The "Bonus clue, rear seats recline in addition to being heated. " has me thrown off cause all of the cars I found don't have enough room to recline the rear seats. If it's a Maxima of some kind, then I can't find an AWD version of it. You've got me stumped. I also think you're playing the semantics game with naming conventions, but I'll wait for this mystery car to be revealed to prove that.

You guys are overthinking it and losing focus.
Two clues significantly limit the potential options, as neither of the lists of vehicles those things were used on are very long. And if you compare the two lists your potential options drop to almost nothing.

Nissan QX4
anyonebutme
02-22-2018, 04:19 PM
Bingo. It's an Infiniti QX4. Sold in Japan and other markets as a Nissan Terrano Regularus. Not to be confused with a normal Nissan Terrano/Nissan Pathfinder, which has a normal manual 4x4 system like a jeep.
Tomorrow's clue would have been that it has a clutch type rear limited slip differential.

I worked for an auto shipping company in Jacksonville, FL briefly one summer that dealt primarily with Kia's, Daewoo's, and Nissans/Infinitis. The people there liked to call these things Cue-bye-Fours.
ABM owns a Regularus?
Sort of counterintuitive, but.

If you own one, you might want to check out my other thread, they suffer the same problem with rust as the Pathfinders (and all Nissans apparently).

I've owned a few pathfinders, the last one had 400k miles and I could put my fist through the rear where the strut mounts. This one has zero rust and only 60k miles.
