View Full Version : FML, tired of this car

Guess I cannot blame the car for my dumb move, but wouldn't have been here if the damn front hubs didn't need to be replaced and water pump that had 10K on it didn't start leaking. Nothing I do on or with this car is easy. Any way, I replaced the hubs and WP. I used the scissor jack on the corner of the pan to support the engine while I removed the driver side mount (done it dozen of times with no damage). This time was different because I freaking forgot to take the jack out and lowered the car!!!!! Jacked it back up and I have a nice dent in the corner. No puncture and no dents around the pickup. Realize that I need to get this fixed, but is it need as in if I run the car I'm going to screw up the engine or just need. I am really fed up with messing with this car right now as it's showing its age and been working on it more than driving. Not to mention don't you have to pull the engine to replace the pan?

Good time to get the bigger oil pan.

No, you do not have to pull the engine. Just the T-case and cross member.

That is better than the whole engine. Just got done pulling and installing the T-case not too long ago. Seems like I'm constantly one step forward two steps back.

it is what it is man,

i just finished a fully built engine, with td05 e16g turbos. dyno tuned, survived 700 hard mountain miles. first day at drag and the timing belt breaks. i will be replacing it, none the less and whatever other damage it may have caused, prob bent valves

What pan are you referring to?

It's entirely possible they don't even make them anymore http://www.3sgto.org/threads/7902-Group-Buy-IPS-1G-2G-Baffled-Racing-Oil-Pans

Did the circular bottom of the pan move at all, or just that corner? The pan is quite soft so it's possible the deformation was limited to the corner. I wouldn't be able to leave that on my car (ocd/paranoid lol), but it really might be a non issue.

have it towed to a shop and have them replace the pan if its such a big deal.

It's only a big deal if it absolutely needs to be replaced. The area for the pick up is not damaged and I don't need to take it to the shop as I can accomplish a pan replacement. Just don't feel like dicking with it right now. Got bigger fish to fry.

Never use the oil pan, you can lift the engine from the AC Compressor bracket, works wonders.

Even if you don't have an AC compressor bracket installed (no A/C FTL), use wood and a heavy folded towel to protect your towel from the jack. This sort of accident is pretty inexcusable. Did the same mechanic install the super prematurely failing water pump? :p

I was the one who installed the water pump and have done 5 60K changes before this without issue. The gasket that came with it was not the metal crush type and appeared to have failed. I usually use a piece of wood but couldn't find any. I have lost count at the number of times I have used the corner of the pan without any problem what so ever. Would not have been an issue this time if I hadn't gotten ticked at the car not cooperating and not being able to find the bolt for the power steering tensioner. Because of this I got careless and that's what happens.

Fair enough, sorry to pile on! Do you have an aftermarket oil pressure gauge?
