...the fuck out of me:

That stupid, fucking, irritating Charter commercial with the stupid, fucking, fake-ass, white-boy, wanna-be beat-box asshole and the "ONE-EIGHT-FIVE-FIVE-NINE-FIVE-FIVE-TWO-NEIN-NEIN-NEIN!!!!" jingle....makes me want to eat my fucking elbows.

Honest-to-fuck, I have to leave the fucking room.

LOL.... You and everyone else on the planet... You have to wonder at the advertising theory that any attention is good attention. "doesn't matter if you piss them off if they know your name..."

Do you know what really chaps my ass? The fact there's a 'd' in the word 'fridge' but not in the word 'refrigerator'. What's going on with that??

Oh yeah, and I'm like, "I ALREADY HAVE CHARTER, BUT ONLY CUZ IT'S THE ONLY FUCKING GAME IN TOWN, AND WHY CAN'T YOU GET THE PHONE THING FIXED SO I CAN TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THESE FUCKING "BUNDLED" OFFERS YOU KEEP FILLING MY FUCKING MAILBOX WITH?!?!"

Actually I know why that last is - a family friend (his daughter and my daughter are besties) OWNS the phone biz for this entire area and has made the necessary political payoffs to retain his exclusive in perpetuity; Charter can't get it's phone service to me.

Sucks, cuz I can't bitch too loudly, and Charter won't quit with the fucking mail bombardment...

That's ok... It's a scam anyway. I bundled the phone and internet at the shop, was paying $75 for what I had. I was happy until I found out that's not a permanent rate. They tout the no contract crap, but what do I do now? change my business phone number..?

Hah - I figured that.

My intuition about it is one reason I never gave up my landline.

Well, that and living at the end of the Earth...:lo5l:

Bought and paid for "reviews" on Amazon.

I decided on looking into a tactical LED flashlight to buy my dad for his birthday. I figured it's something he could use for hunting and the like.

After looking at a few found through Google, etc I started looking on eBay after watching a review video on YouTube and found the one I wanted, but it comes from Hong Kong (the reviewer even stated it came from Hong Kong) and I might not get it in time. I looked to see if I might find it on Amazon and lo and behold they are sold there. The seller even has the name of the product (UltraFire) and the product is fulfilled by Amazon. Score right?

Well, to double check and make sure it isn't a Chinese copy of a Chinese product I start reading reviews and almost every review has a disclaimer that the product was received at a discounted price for their "honest" review. After leafing through other products sold by this seller on Amazon and finding some legit reviews it looks like this is indeed the fake UltraFire shit the YouTube vid warned about.

It looks like Amazon is onto the game and has sued several sites for the practice, but as soon as one gets shut down another one pops up.

I could be wrong but I thought I remember case law stating that your phone number is yours regardless of provider. Like you can take it with you.

I expect you are right, but that doesn't make it any less of a PITA. The other options available wouldn't really save me much money, and most likely slow down my internet access. Making a change at this point would simply be on principle against dishonest tactics. Since that seems to be the norm in modern business, (needing to scour the fine print for the catch) I'm just not up to taking the time and effort to make that stand right now... Particularly when most options available are most likely just jumping out of the frying pan into the fire...

Funny you bring this up, Amazon just announced they are doing away with this.

Well, Amazon has (had?) their Vine program, which I never knew anything about. The reviews I was referring to are solicited by outside sites and were against the TOS.

I should go back to some of the stuff I was looking at and report all the "fake" reviews.

Need to resurrect this thread to note my perturbation at the sudden outbreak among the news-media of the inclination to evaluate various "HOT MESSES" by "UNPACKING" them.

Seriously - everybody's doing it, and it NEEDS TO STOP, NOW.
