So I think we found the problem, and yeah it was a big problem.

Local friend picked up a car mainly to be used as parts. I was the one picking up the car and going to be doing the parts stripping. Car was pretty beat up as it ran into a ditch. so body was rough. We were told the engine spun a bearing which was no big deal as he didn't want it for engine parts. So loaded up the car and headed home. backed it off the trailer and found I had a massive oil stain now on my trailer. We just figured it had a bad Xfer case seal.

Started work on stripping it done for parts. Got the upper intake manifold off and it was literally full of oil. Like it was pouring oil out of it it was so full. Also found pieces of metal in the upper intake. Had no clue what it was but I though the pieces looked a little familiar.

Got under the car to pull transfer case and such to get the engine ready to be pulled. Once the transfer was off and down I had some parts fall on me. Again more pieces of metal and this time half of a stud with the nut still on one end. Got some light and looked around and found this:

Yeah that doesn't belong there. I must say that was the most extreme example of a spun bearing I have ever seen!

So I got the engine pulled and we started to tear into it some to see if at least the heads were salvageable. I pulled the plug and could see the piston top so I knew the piston was still there...

Got it all stripped down and pulled the rear head to find piston #6 like this.....

***Note - That is a piece of piston holding the valve open and is why I had pieces of piston in the upper intake manifold!

So believe it or not the bearings are still there, they are just flat and show no sing of abnormal wear outside of them being smashed and banded around.

This is a great point of why you don't just go and turn up the boost. Too much boost on a stock fuel system, starved the #6 cylinder and it blew due to the heat.

No clue... They had a manual boost controller and a chrome ECU that had just the 99 flash on it. We found a Denso 550 pump in the tank. No other power mods done to the car. So I'm thinking they just cranked the boost and it blew.

I'm going with a spun bearing.... Unfortunately for that poor motor, it spun at the beginning of a long hard pull, and they didn't lift their right foot until it stopped moving.

I'm not seeing the signs of severe detonation on the top of that piston or the head. Just that it was playing whack-a-mole until shit went boom...

But yeah, they probably turned up the boost on an old worn out motor... I bet if you pull the girdle you'll see nothing but copper on the main bearings.

I love romping on the throttle of mine - I keep boost at about 14psi, though.
