Here is how the car started off:

http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k193/Rgarcia9/VR4%20Project/IMAG0002.jpg

I've started to take the body parts off the car now:

http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k193/Rgarcia9/VR4%20Project/IMAG0014.jpg

I bought the Victory hood, and I have some problems with the hood hitting the strut tower, so I'm having the body shop work their magic to make sure it closes right.

In for pics, should come out really nice because it looks like it was a very straight clean car to start with. Should be pretty sweet when its all done.

Another Gen1 lost to the '99 fad. :(

The shop I took it to mostly does classic cars but they want to start branching into the import scene, so I was lucky enough to get in on a good deal. I had a car similar to this years ago, so pretty much I'm just trying to duplicate my old car. :)

Man I bought my 93 vr-4 chromies from you off your older 1st gen pearl white vr-4. I put them on my pearl white R/T Stealth, now you have another pearl white vr-4 getting painted pearl white!! PW FTW!!

I should put that on a license plate border, "My other car is Pearl White" haha

I do remember that. I'll be selling these chrome wheels too. I actually purchased some Enkie RP03 wheels that I'll be putting on the car after it's painted. I might go take some photos this weekend of the prep work being done.

if you don't mind me asking, how much did they charge you to strip and paint the entire car? This is something I will need to do in the future, and I was curious to know how much it would be since I wont be doing an el cheapo macco or peach job.

Getting painted today. The next pictures I post up will be the finished result. I'll let you know total cost on Tuesday after I pick it up. This is a 3 stage paint job.

where is the rest of it, pearl is very hard to match if it isnt done at the same time, let alone all together.

The skirts, bumpers, panels were on brackets. Inside that booth is another room section dedicated for parts like these.

This pearl color is pretty interesting, outside in the sun it looks kinda white blue, outside in the shade it looks white, and inside with these bulbs it looks kinda white cream.

Sorry for the delay guys, work has really been kicking my butt and I haven't had time to take some decent pictures or wash the car so I'll just post these up. I still have to wash the car as there is some film residue left over from the color sand. But these should give you an idea of the look of the car now:

Since most people don't know what type of car this is I will keep it that way. No badges, I shaved the mitsu logo on the front bumper, and I'm buying the GTO garnish from Frank (TazMan).

The skirts are Novara, they required a custom bracket, and some fiberglass filling on the front.

Get some fogs and 99 splitters! :D

Where are you located in California?

3000GTCSULB
11-17-2010, 01:01 PM
I have the fog lights which I'll install when I get my new plates, I decided not to install the splitters because I like the look of the holes on the sides.

I'm in Anaheim, CA.

So, the big question. How much did it set you back. My pearl 3K is in some need of a fresh paint job. Drum roll...... :D

3000GTCSULB
11-17-2010, 04:29 PM
Drum roll................. $4500 for a 3 stage paint job. However, mine had dents, scratches, and modifications required to my after market pieces. You should give them a call to get a price for your vehicle as every job is slightly different.

Every other shop I was quoted $5600 + modification cost in labor hours.

A truly professional shop that works on everything from NSX, Saleens, Old School cars. I'll take more detailed pics when I have time, they were honest, respectful, and took a real interest in the car. I must have visited the shop maybe 15 times during the process.

That is an AWESOME price :)

I paid $3000 to have Zach's car painted (and repaired from a parking lot collision to the passenger fender and front bumper). He had some fading on his hood, roof and hatch that they claimed to take down to bare metal (I had used these guys for some minor stuff on the Spyder, so I thought I knew their work). It looked good initially, but after the paint had a chance to "cure" all kinds of issues arose. I took the car back TWICE and the guy was none to happy the second time. In the end it came out "alright" but then Zach put a solid 2 days into detailing it (we have mucho $'s worth of detailing stuff [there's some in my refrigerator!!!])...everyone at NG10 thought it was a VERY clean 93 VR4....

The thing that makes your deal sweeter is that it was done in CALI, and nothing there is "inexpensive" :)

Said it before, LOVE IT!!!

Bob.

I'll remember them when it comes time to paint my car. I was just curious to see what kind of ballpark I was looking at to get a good job done. I was expecting around $3500, but I wasn't thinking about the pearl. Thanks for the info, and your car looks awesome!

That looks great. The price was right too. Do you know what brand paint and clear they used?

We're painting my 95 3000GT with Dupont Chromabase products and it's coming in at just over $1k in materials and takes about 2 full weeks to prep, paint, and finish. I've got a bunch of pictures of the process we're going through and I'll start a thread on it when it's done. I'm hoping for before thanksgiving.

I personally think that the first generation spoiler is the only way to go. It flows really nicely with the lines of the car.

congrats, looks great, 99 front with 1st gen spoiler is the only way to go, my sons vr4 is the same way. we tried the 99 spoiler and after a year got rid of it. the only change i would do is to paint the headlights the white pear. the dark headligths take away from a great looking design of a car..
