Took the car to Santa Pod on Friday for some testing at wastegate power. Initially had some teething troubles with the clutch biting point following a hydraulic release bearing failure at 10 pm the night before! The gearbox removal and refit was completed at 2 am! Thanks to the guys at Eurospec for such a huge effort despite having a big Time Attack event to attend at Rockingham the next day.
By the time we got a workable bite point on the clutch it was mid afternoon. The first run was at 3.26 pm.
PB 60' - 1.5586
PB ET - 9.7 @ 145 mph
New European ET record
This was at wastegate power, approx 75-80%.
I immediately queued for a 2nd run but the clutch didn't like it. It launched ok, not brilliant but then slipped in 2nd and I had to pedal it. Further up the track I thought I missed 4th but in fact a wire had pulled off a board under the dash, cutting all power. Still 11.0 @ 107 mph. Easily fixed and rested the car for an hour to cool the clutch.
3rd run at 4.52 pm
Raised the 2 step by 500 rpm
PB 60' - 1.5535
A better run all round until I missed 4th,
Unfortunately this was it for the day as the track closed shortly after but very encouraging knowing that we have over 1 bar of boost left on the table plus more ignition and some clutch upgrades.

Very nice, please post some updated pics on your build :)
Damn, nice job. Truly impressive on a 6-speed. Probably low 9's in there with a 5-speed & some practice.

I'm curious why you say this. His tires may be a little taller than stock and even grow a little on the big end, but assuming stock tires:
3rd at 145 (trap speed is just an average for the last 60 ft, so the terminal speed is actually higher than this) is 8600 RPM on a 5 speed.
I'm not sure if the OP is running the JDM or USDM six speed gearing, but let's assume JDM.
4th is good for 167 at 8600 RPM.
In short most likely either way a shift to 4th is necessary, but the six speed can actually use it. The lower average gearing should make the six speed car faster, assuming it can be put to the ground. It is also a lot easier on the clutch.

I'm 99% certain Andre does in fact run a 6 speed box ;) He certainly has bought every available 6 speed xfer case in the UK so go figure lol

Yes it was the first real outing for the Frontline Fabrication cover plate. I had also totally rebuilt the TC with new bearings throughout and put the gears through a combination of processes. When I have tested this to my satisfaction and limits I may offer this setup with Frontline Fabrication supplying the covers. However, there is a lot of proving to be done and then I would need to make sure I wouldn't be contravening any forum rules.

I hope to do that or quicker on the 6 speed but with my planned terminal speeds I don't see how the 5 speed would offer any advantage or gain tbh.

Fewer shift points, more durability, imho.

How is it fewer shift points? Did you read my post? How does durability make it faster?
You're right. I have no idea why 5 speeds seem to be the standard for drags.

There would be the exact same number of shift points and to my knowledge the 5 speed gearbox is not stronger or more durable than the JDM 6 speed. You need to remember that I am only at wastegate and will be adding another bar of boost, so the terminal speed will be vastly different, high 160's minimum. The TC gears yes, although I am hoping iI have a working solution now.
To illustrate my thinking, these are the approximate maximum speeds per gear at 8500 rpm. Bear in mind that as well as the 1/4 this car will also do the 1km once a year too.

I don't understand why you're being so smug. You don't know everything. Do you even have a running 3S these days?
Andre - I'm pretty interested to see how your transfer case does. What kind of treating did you do on the gears?
Great job!

several different processes actually, if it continues to work well I will discuss later if that is ok? Not being secretive but I would have slight concerns that if it didn't work out, there may be a half hearted search done by somebody in the future that could lead them down a wrong path. I would rather give it everything I have to see if it survives me first. LOL

Fair enough. I know there are different coatings and heat/surface treat technologies out these days that really change material properties. I hope you have found a solution... I have 2 spare transfer cases sitting in my garage just waiting for my current one to blow hahaha

Even if it barely passes your standards, I doubt I would ever subject my T-case to the abuse that you are subjecting it to, look forward to your findings.

But you make money to spend it, right?

Thanks Andre,
I didn't realise you changed your clutch again. You'll have to tell me more. How does it compare to the ATS / across / carbonetic tripple plate clutch? As you may know I am considering this clutch.
