View Full Version : A/V help needed
Guys, I'm looking for a cheap method to hook my NES up to a new 4k TV. Composite, S-Vid and R/F inputs are gone on this baby. Component is a 3.5mm jack with another 3.5mm jack for the audio. Now I've got a component switcher box incoming, which should fix most all my other device connection problems, but I'd like to hook up my NES, and all it has is RF out (it's the top-loader, and those don't have the side RCA jacks).
Recommend me a good "R/F -> composite" converter?
no one? Am I the only retro-gaming geek on here with this problem?

The only one that retro ;)
Something like this might be a better option. http://www.amazon.com/Retron-NES-System-White-Nintendo-Entertainment/dp/B000MFHH6I

Just connect it via coax, it is not like it is going to upscale to a better resolution

I'm too much a a purist to deal with the retroN. And even if I was, i'd get the N5. But the controllers simply aren't as good as the Nintendo ones.

Again, no R/F input on this 4k TV. I'm not asking because I want to upscale. I'm asking because coax is the only output from this NES, and there's no coax in on my tv.

I found this:
About the only thing I could find too...nestalgia can be expensive. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815158130&Tpk=coax%20to%20hdmi)
Universal Coax RF RCA Video Audio to USB Converter Digital Video Recorder | eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/121181864937)
ended up buying this. hopefully it will work on the USB input on my tv.

Unfortunately, that USB device will not work with the TV.
guess i'll find out. it looks like it SHOULD...but who knows. I'll play around with it. I also bought 3x more input selector devices. My old 5x1 pelican manual switcher just isn't cutting it for me.

I'll second what Nick said that will only work to a PC/Laptop.
BUT you could then connect the PC/Laptop to the TV and it should work.

First one should be all I need. I only need to get it to composite. I can figure everything else out from there.
Now if I could just figure out how to get my SNES 101 to do component out. But it needs an internal mod, and the kickstarter guys haven't offered their cords for open sale yet...

If push comes to shove. I've already had to go this route with my backup laptop, just to watch shows on netfix over here. I never did get the flashed router working properly. So I've had to rely on a PC with VPN software loaded on it.

Can you just go with a raspberry pi and an emulator? Would be way cheaper, but not "authentic"
Emulators and I have no love. The closest I come is a cracked Wii and Homebrew.
