Damn, I may have to look into doing my own hotel then. I'm looking more along the lines of $50 a night. I can't justify paying $100 a night for something I may only spend 6-7 hours in a day...

hold on....
Hotel is not final.
We hope to keep the price to no more than $100 per night. That does not mean the price will be $100 per night.
Our goal for hotel is a decent hotel aka not the Ritz and not motel 6.
We negotiate a group rate that is normally better than you can on your own. The price will be competitive for a decent hotel for the area.
So just relax till we get this sorted out.
WTF is wrong with motel 6? I've stayed in some pretty nice ones in my time.

My brother is two hours from there in Southern Ill. I'm leaving Sat and driving to his place to visit a few days then heading back to KY. But driving back and forth everyday two hours is a lot of driving. So I'll end up getting a place. I get a lot of work discounts and stuff so I'll look into who we use out in that area as I should be able to get a room for the week for under $50 a night. I'm not planning on a roommate for this trip as most of regular NC crew doesn't look to be making the trip.
One way or another I'll be there even if I end up camping in the truck! :p

Two states away. It is an 8 hour drive from where I am at. Some only have a 6 hour drive. For a lot of the members it is Finances or timing that are preventing them from going.

I would bet that someone you know from the BRG will be coming and will be willing to share a room.

Well I have been struck again by the NG gremlinz.
I will not be attending due to my lovely County pulling out on a grandfather clause for my shop. As of now it appears this will cost me around 6k on the low side, and up to 13k on the high. When I built the shop the only permits required were electrical due to no concrtete making it a non-permanent structure. I have been getting mail with photos of it now having concrete, and they are no longer allowing any AG buildings without permits. They are also going after all buildings built within 10yrs forcing the new hurricane shear limits. (no issue there) Since I built it pole building style, and compacted crushed gravel around the poles I have to get it reverse engineered, and may need to alter the pole base structures to '08 standards. My shop is 9 years f-ing old!
Crushed... :(
Consider my road course entry my support...

So.. I'm 5 hours away. and would LOVE to attend but this is all new to me. can I ask a few questions? I wouldn't be able to stay the entire time, but was thinking about trying to come say,, Fri. & Sat. I'd like to see or participate in the car show, and maybe something else. Would I need to register for that and pay $100? And if I brought my family, would I have to pay for each person over 14? Do I need to register to get the discounted hotel rate? again, just not sure what I NEED to do to come and join in for a couple days Thanks, Scott

You and anybody you bring that's 14+ has to pay the registration cost of $100/person ($50 5-13yrs). You get the hotel information after you register. AFAIK, there is no "weekender" package.

There was no $50 option for people 5-13yrs when I looked last night or earlier today. I swear I never saw that $50 option if it was there, and I studied the prices because of conversation elsewhere.
And if you weren't subscribed to the thread, you would have never have know my original post because I changed it in literally 30 sec after I posted. Then I went back in and edited it again, and that why there is an edit timestamp :p

Vehicle and driver technical is good. Don't want to show-up in flip-flops and get kicked out for non-compliance.
Also, since my first event, what does $200 buy? Number of laps, rules, amount of time, etc.? I ALWAYS drive IAW the respective state regulations, so going faster than 90 mph has only been done once in New Mexico, somewhere outside Roswell....lol
Thanks,

This is on a closed circuit track, if it is your firs time, I would recommend the beginners group, UNLESS THINGS CHANGED... The beginners get a coached ride-a-long from an experienced driver, then the same coach rides along with you and coaches while you drive.
You must have closed toed shoes, and long pants for clothing

We will have the track for about 8 hours.
We will have 3 full time run groups(beginner, some experience and experienced) and the touring session groups.
Groups go onto the track in 15 minute sessions.
The touring groups will have two sessions. They will have the option to upgrade to beginner and finish the day in that group. (upgrade price will be $150 or $190 depending on when you registered. )
The rest of the time will be divided among the other 3 groups. We will get as many session and time and track condition allow.
Car must be in good shape no leaks. (watch for a post with more details on that soon)
Closed toe shoes.
long pants

There will be a break for lunch mid day.

Since I can never find it... What classes are there for autocross and what are their rules?
Under the event selection menu in registration you have three boxes; Event, Vehicle, and Driver. When you select Autocross in the event box, additional information pops up on the screen below the first three boxes.
The first item below the initial three boxes says "Autocross Class Selection" and has a button next to it labeled "Details". Clicking that button shows you the full classing system used for the event.
Below the class selection details button there are four boxes; Suspension, Engine, Tires, and Weight Reduction. Your selections in these boxes determine your class.
Under Suspension your choices are Stock Springs, Lowering Springs, and Coilovers. Please note that sleeve and spring coilovers like what Ground Control sells are considered Coilovers and not just Lowering Springs.
Under Engine you have Naturally Aspirated, Stock Turbos(9B's), or Upgraded Turbos. Fairly self-explanatory.
Under Tires you have the choice of Street Tires or Race Tires. If your tires have a tread wear rating below 200 they are considered race tires. Special restrictions may be placed on the recently "reformulated" auto-x tires that magically changed from a 180 rating to a 200 rating to match the recent SCCA rule changes.
Under Weight Reduction you have two choices, Full Weight or Gutted. If you have stripped your interior, aside from just the rear hatch area stuff like the floor cover and plastic trays, you are considered gutted.
As part of the tech process we will verify class accuracy.
If you have additional questions let me know. :bigthumb:
Edit: If you bring anything other than a 3/S you are classified as "Other" which is just one big group with essentially no restrictions or limitations. So yes a Smart Car would have to battle out against a Z06.

Sound Limits
:
NCM retains the right to impose noise restrictions on participating cars, motorcycles and karts. While no specific noise restrictions are to be enforced without NCM’s written notice, NCM may at any time and at its sole discretion, choose to impose a noise control system. Such limits are likely to be similar to those operated by the Sports Car Club of America at their National race events. These require that vehicles comply with a sound pressure level of 103db “A” frequency weighted (dba) measured on a fast response setting at 50ft (=/-2 feet) from the edge of the track pavement. (See SCCA 2005 GCR’s Section 12)

Just registered and signed up for Autocross and Road course. Had a hard time arranging time off so Drags are not likely. Working a midnight shift finishing at 6:30am on Tuesday the 23rd then driving down later that day. I think it is only a 5 hour drive though. I am probably bringing an untested car that I have been working on for about a year; 93 Stealth RT/TT. Have DR650s/550cc/GM blow thru and a hot wired Supra pump. I have the car running with Chrome/MAF Translator but it is not really tuned. Also, the AC compressor is bad but I may not have time to change it. I also kept the AW steering by installing a 3SX rebuilt rear unit, but I initially used synthetic oil in the steering system and it is leaking out of the rear unit seals. I have been pumping in Dextron to try and get the seals to swell but so far it is not working (months). If I don't get this fixed I may have to bring my backup car...94 base turbo FWD (the supercharger is gone. 15Gs). Can't be leaking tranny fluid all over the track.
I didn't see any info on hotels on the 3SNG sight. Hopefully that will get emailed to me. I need to make a reservation Never made it to any award banquets at past NGs and it seems this year will not be the exception. Have to leave Saturday morning and go to work that night at 6:30pm.
Tally Ho, my car goes slow.

Pretty much an assumption based on my own helmet cam that I've had for 3 years at events and that there is helmet cam vids of NCM on youtube. SCCA is usually a lot more strict on things like this than private track events and their requirements center around "as long as it doesn't effect the integrity of the helmet or pose a threat of injury (sharp edges or unable to break away)".

I would have the camera tethered to the mount for sure.
If NCM allows it, then I don't have a problem. But the contract with them is extremely long and extensive, so I'll be just asking on-site at the event or just prior. I'm starting a list of questions that people have. That's about the best I can do.

I saw somewhere mention the helmet requirements were something like Snell 2005.... The one I have and have used for a couple years now is ECE 22.05 and never had any issues with it. I have no clue how that crosses over with Snell standards. Anyone have any ideas??
anyonebutme
06-08-2015, 09:39 PM
ECE is the European version of DOT motorcycle rating. It does NOT meet the Snell SA standard. IF the track requires an SA rated helmet, even SNELL M will not fly, it has to be a SNELL SA automotive racing helmet, not a motorcycle helmet, and 2005 or newer rating. This is the last year for 2005 rating, in 2016 you MUST have a SA2010 rated helmet or newer. In the past we have let a lot slide, but we are cracking down now. If the rules state snell SA for roadcourse, I have a feeling more than a few people are going to be really pissed when they are told they can't go on track because they failed tech.
AutoX is a different story, but it depends on if the track has a say. In SCCA and NASA autoX, any rated helmet flies, even motorcross, but not those Harley rider skull caps, lol.
I'll take a moment to make something else clear: Your car must pass tech inspection to roadcourse. People did fail last year.

When it comes to track rules, it's up to me to find out what they are. I have a very long, very detailed contract explaining it. I also asked them directly about the helmet requirement, and reported back what they said. If people start calling them to "get it directly from them," a few things happen. First, you make your organizer look like an idiot. That, in turn, will seriously piss her off. Second, they'll get too many phone calls all from the same group and things will not go well for us on the track.
Chris, thank you for posting that. The only update is the helmet rating.
Everyone back off. I feel like I'm being attacked constantly, either over pricing, the website, the rules... PLEASE give it a rest. Here's the quick explanation... I own a retail store. Lori I'm not sure what you are referring to. But you have made no quote to me about helmet rules in this thread. B-man was the first to mention a Snell helmet two months ago but no specifics where brought up until I mentioned something about it in this thread. Not even sure where I heard about the Snell 2005 requirement which is why I questioned it in this thread. Probably overheard something in chat.
The only helmet requirements I see in this thread are for that of the drag strip that Alan added to the first post. Since I didn't see any information in this thread or on the site in regards to the Helmet or Tech inspections I brought it up, Neither subject was directed at you but to the members that have attended in the past for clarification.
This was not an attack against you, it was questions in regards to race requirements that from what I can see had not been disclosed or where not available. With the event being 2 weeks away I wanted to be sure I had everything I needed in order so that I didn't show up to the track and not been able to run. Hey Lori....:p

So the only thing I need to know is does the track rent helmets? Lori or Alan, can you call and find out if they do and what the price per day is. If possible could you get back to me in the next couple days as if they don't then I will need to make some other arrangements to track down a helmet.

Thanks, and I got the NG newsletter and guess that is where I heard about the Snell 2005, but that was not my original question in this thread. Snell is a foundation that tests helmet designs and every 5 years puts out new requirements that are more stringent. The have 2 sets of ratings, M for motorcycle, SA for special application which really means car.
SA helmets are designed for multiple impacts against rollbars, so the shell is usually stronger than it's motorcycle counterpart and the impact material inside doesn't crush as easy. It also has a nomex interior for fire resistance and a thicker face shield to protect from fire and debris from breaking through. The eye port on formula type helmets is smaller to lessen the chances of a "Senna" happening and your face getting stabbed by broken car parts in an accident. The important part though is the fire resistance because that is the #1 danger of auto racing (and track days), you're much more likely to encounter fire than helmet impacts.
DOT/ECE is a government rating, and it basically means the helmet will survive a 5 foot drop with a head in it, that's it.

Here's the break down.
In years past, tech for road course was performed by ones self. The old honor system.
Lori had to deal with my drunk nagging about road course safety several times at BRG/NG. In 2012, I put together a check list for tech using several groups we run with as a basis along with my bro's input. The first time we (patterson, brent, myself, a couple of others) did tech was at St. Louis. And we greatly stressed decent pads and brake fluid (at least changed within the last year). That tech sheet we used was linked above. At the time, both Snell SA and M helmets were permitted.
However, it should be noted that most groups will only allow SA rated helmets these days with the increase of safety. So I'm not surprised for a track of this caliber only SA 2005+ helmets are allowed.
As mentioned before, your peers did tech for road course. I maybe wrong and lori/alan can clarify since they have the actual contract but i wouldn't plan on NCM employees running tech but us again. And as patterson said, there was some leniency in the past with helmets among other things, but don't expect that this year.
Morally of the story, if your helmet doesn't not say SA 2005, SA 2010, or SA 2015, you will either be renting (based on previous sites i could find says limited helmets are provided for rental) or buying an HJC at the corvette store.
Sorry Nate, i was a lil sleep deprived when i got your text hence my gut was SA rated.
Maximal
06-09-2015, 12:49 PM
Building off Bridget's tech info from an experienced track day attendee please don't take that to mean there will be leniency with our group doing it. They are also under stress trying to tech a ton of cars quickly so some things may be missed and not to mention it's not like they can do an in-depth inspection in a parking lot. The organizers do all they can and then some to make sure you and everyone else is safe but you really should go beyond their tech for your own car.
Every year I see someone with issues because their car wasn't in the right shape or they bought the AutoZone platinum pads and thought they would handle the abuse of a track day. Go through your car with a fine tooth comb, buy good pads and rotors even if you have decent ones that are a bit used, change your brake fluid with something decent (I'm purposely not naming brands so this doesn't sound like a sales pitch), torque your lugs obsessively, check your car after every run.
You might think you're invincible and your car is in great shape but shit happens on a track and when you're doing 100+ it's not going to be pretty if even something little breaks. It really bothers me to see people completely ignore this thinking or if you do have to work on your car, rushing through it so you can make the next session. If there's any scenario when you should take your time and double check your work it's during a track day.
With that said I'm getting more and more bummed every day I'm missing this year. :(

Pisses me off that searching for "Snell SA 2010" in amazon brings up a bunch of shit that is not even close to that rating cause the damn seller includes shit like "Not SA 2010 rated" BS

Yeah. I was too excited in trying to help and only saw 2010 and missed the M. At least Kenny caught it and you were able to cancel the order.
Vendors are always allowed to set up wherever we can allow it. If I'm not mistaken, the track is NOT an option this year. I'll double-check the contract.

Any word on the vendor setup... And does that also mean that we can't set-up canopies and such to stay out of the sun???
Vendors are NOT allowed to set up at the track. Even the NG can't sell anything there. Strict rules, frankly. Stricter than other tracks. However, a canopy can be set up. That's not a problem, there will just be some restrictions as to where. That's to be expected.

OK, I can't sell anything. But I can show things off though correct? Like a product showcase.... I have display stands showing powdercoat and hydro dip patterns so I should be safe to set those up. That is all example products, none of it is for sale.
So if we can't sell at the track, where else can we set up to sell? The three main events are at the track and the car show is at cars and coffee which probably won't let us set up either... So what does that leave us??

The hotel is usually where business happens.
I agree with Chris. it's not usually even worth it at the tracks. If there's room in the registration room, we allow vendors to set up there. It's first come - first serve for space. You can always set something up in the parking lot, which is usually your best opportunity. And also at the banquet hall. You'll be asked about that at registration so we can plan accordingly. As for the car show, again... Not a good place for it anyway, but I'm not sure what the rules will be. The location has been moved and I found out late last night, so I don't even know what the new place is like yet.
As far as showing stuff off at the track, that's a technicality that I'm not sure I'd try to cross with this track. They have a very long list of rules, and seem to enforce them very strictly. I could be wrong, and it could just be a better-written contract than most, but my impressions are that I wouldn't risk it.
Please refer any other sponsorship questions to an email or a private message. I'm not sure we need to carry this on publicly when it applies only to the sponsors. Also, you're likely to get a quicker answer that way. I don't always remember to check everywhere for questions.

It only gets worse from here..........people try and get 10 years out of a helmet, but a 5 year old helmet is usually sttttttiiiiiiiinky.

Febreze?
Not sure that's good for the impact absorption foam. I haven't looked at the Zamp, but my motorcycle helmet has a removable liner that I can wash.

Newspaper and charcoal. What works for the fish filled Zeti should work in a helmet.
Any news on HPDE insurance or are we on our own?:indecisiveness:
It was posted somewhere already... You're on your own. I went around and around with the track about it and lost in the end. Sorry about that.

On this note, does anyone have a line of where insurance can be had? Everything I have found requires our event to be a on a list.
You guys are all set. The NG should be added to their website tomorrow, and HPDE will be available to you. Hope this helps. Sorry for the initial confusion - apparently the person I was told handles it, doesn't know the first thing about this. She handles general track insurance, not HPDE.

Thanks a ton, Lori. 3S National Gathering - Lockton Motorsports (http://locktonmotorsports.com/event/3s-national-gathering/7482)
Haha, of course when I go to purchase, it says "Event not found". I'm sure it's something on Lockton's part.
