View Full Version : Anyone intersted in CF doors

Forum users. A new thread will be started should there be further interest. The first run of doors has been spoken for and is being quality fitted by racing professionals and a qualified site vendor.

The original run of 5 doors required a collecticve investment of over $10,000. Fitment results will be added as they're completed by the individual investors.

That is extremely cheap!!! I'm not in need of them but if they are quality CF doors at that price...

Can't believe they took so long to realise that, it was pretty obvious.

I would like to have CF door to save the weight, but I preffer the security of the stock door.

LOL, just a bunch of H.S. drama! Didn't know my identity was a secret to 3s Tech's :p. The molds and plugs are done. Expecting them to come in the first quarter of 2011.

Post up a definite weight, and some fitment pics.

As long as they save weight over a stock door with no door bars or power window track/motor im in for a pair. I really want my car to weigh 24xx pounds.

Ofcourse, I would have to make a safety suggestion to folks about side impact, and would highly recc a cage.

Nothin yet Austin, I will definitely post up the info when they land and I have them test fitted. Good guess... prolly within a pound or two of 10lbs each.

10lbs ea? That's freakin nuts! We'd love a set...but now's not the time since the baby is on the way.

Austin@STM
10-12-2010, 07:50 PM
10lbs each? or 10lbs lighter each?

Also i remember this from other CF door discussions. Will they accept all style door caps, or will they be styled for separate cars?

i3igpete
10-12-2010, 08:15 PM
my main wonder is if the door would be able to support my weight (probably not) since i do a jump and slide to get in/out of my car. but yeah i've never seen the fitment so at least a prototype picture would be nice.

Extremely interested! As long as they support the stock pieces (mirrors, locks, door insert, door caps, etc.).

Jeremy, I'm down for a set but I am not putting up any money till they arrive. I paid in full for carbon fenders and a hood through Russ at Chaser and it's been over a year now and still no hood. I asked them today to refund my money and they don't want to, they want me to keep waiting, yet they have no idea when the hood will be in! So from now on, I'm only paying for what they have in stock.

They do sell a carbon fiber door caps, they are Pit Road M knockoff if I'm not mistaken.

J. Fast
10-13-2010, 12:07 AM
The doors should be roughly 10 pounds each, Austin.

They will accept stock door caps and all stock hardware. You will have to drill all your mounting holes for mirrors, inside door panels, and etc tho. The door hinge will be tapped.

May make me sound like a fool but I've never checked, is there a significant shape difference between stealth doors and 3000gt? I thought the only difference was the cap design?

Not certain as to the structural integrity of the doors Pete. CF is really strong though. You sure you don't want to rig up a $10 door exit lever?

I'll get some of those questions answered and post back up.

I have to agree with you there. A carbon fiber door would be great for $500 each but with the 99 sails being 650 or so...... makes me wonder.

Arent the pit road M doors like $3000 a pair?

Ya, keeping fingers crossed on this one.

Brief history..
A year ago when Russ still worked there he had me go out and find a set of doors that I could ship to him to have the CF molds made. (in China or somewhere on the other side of the planet) So I found a set of doors after a couple months of looking. Jer, these were the green doors that Hal brought up to me during the Chumpcar project last year at this time. I went to send them to him and called asking where to ship them to. He said, "Oh, I had a set dropped off by a local guy". Awesome, saves me on the freight and I threw them away. Every month since then (a year ago) I call over there and talk with now Anthony (a hella cool guy who my number on a sticky at his desk) just to get an update on when the doors will be done and in the US. The last report I got from about a week ago was they are hoping they are coming on the next container within the next month or so. Here's to keeping the fingers crossed!!

If they come in soon i'm making set from paper mache. LOL ~joke~

Ok Jeremy, here it is.
$3800 shipped in continental US for the CFdoors, Pit Fighter front and rear bumpers, side skirts, doors and hatch.

I will need a 25% deposit to put your parts in the next run. We accept all major credit cards and paypal. Give me a call to take care of your deposit.

Thanks,

Michelle

There it is guys... Roughly $3450 for the entire kit, $3800 with shipping, or $1000 for the doors w/o shipping with a group buy.

Pete, and everyone, I'm sorry I can't give you a composite of the doors or a sample. This is a one time custom parts deal. The good part is you dont have to commit all your money upfront, tho. Looks like I'm going to need a little help with a few things so I'm going to ask Jason and Erron if they're willing to help me setup everything.

For the record guys, I do believe the retail price for the doors is going to be set at $1700-$2000 after our run.

Good stuff Jer. I'd be willing to pay shipping both ways if they want to sent them here for testing. We can document it via web chat and video phone if needed as well.

I'm cool with that Err, video doc is a great idea!

I wouldn't mind driving tho. I love driving my car, there's something about hearing it purr. I couldn't have listened to the stereo for more than 2 hours on my trip thru MD this summer.

Anyway, if you want to video document everything we can do it with the set I pre-ordered and I'll split the shipping with you Err. I'm prolly going to get a 2nd set while in GB since they're a lttle cheaper at that price.

Are all interested parties willing to put up 25%? Between $250 and $300. Your money will be tied up for awhile, could be as late as April. The deposit is a hold Chaser will require to place a manufacturers production order. The balance would be due upon arrival and upon Erron and I doing a fitment documentry.

I'm going to start a list of interested parties. Please only put your name on it if you're interested, and are willing to put forward deposit money (prolly around $250-$300) in no more than 30 days from today.

So far i've only been able to find B-magic (~$1000/set), seibon (~$1600), and vis (~$1900) doors. As far as I can tell Chaser has only been doing interior door panels.

Location is not important when you're a capital investor of a company/corporation.

There was discussion of some Honda type bodykit company on 3Si years back that Brian had some interest in. I can't remember for sure who it was, but Chaser struck a chord. I'm searching now.

<- that was this guy

ƒJ[ƒ{ƒ“ƒhƒA (http://www.pitroadm.com/public/AERO/PARTS/CARBON.htm)

they are about $3000/pair currently. or $2300/pair for fiberglass from PRM

one stock door : 19kg
one carbon door : 5.5kg
one stock glass : 6kg
one stock mirror : 2kg
one interior panel: 1kg
power window : 5kg

carbon doors = -30lb lb/side
glass and power motor removal = -24 lb/side

going to carbon doors and window nets will save you a little under ~108 lbs.

aluminum doors will be almost impossible to make, unless you have an industrial sheet metal stamp.

I've had good luck with Chaser as well. They are sometimes a little slow on products that aren't in stock but that is to be expected considering it's literally "the slow boat from china" or where ever they come from. The products I've received and also other DSM buddies have been top notch. I'd say -good- fitment and -great- layups. Not perfect, but at their price points, better than expected.

i bought my scootie2 from chaser back in 06. i wonder why it's easier to get them to make doors for us than to have them update the scootie2 mold so that it's actually better (straighten the vents, increase motor clearance, add some eyelids, secure fasteners on the vent mesh, etc). i'd be first in line to buy another one if they updated the molds like that.

It is going to remain a daily driver. Why do you say cf doors are crazy. Chris Dempsey has them over here. They will be sprayed in with the rest of the car. I'll probably have the front and rear wings remodled at the same time, making them 2" wider each side to accommodate the 18x11's fitted with either 315/35/18 or 335/35/18 rubber all round. For now, I'm just going to get the arches rolled out by 2" inches just to stay road legal.

I'll also be looking to fit a cf rear hatch as well. Anyone got any experience of a cf moon roof? I've heard they can blow off unless you rivet them in.

Also I would be interested in cf side skirts something like the skirts on the Veyron. If you look closely, they sweep from inboard at the front to outboard at the back, to remove air from under the car and create down force!

As far as the group buy thing. Test fit first... for sure!

Which BTW, who here can point me in the right direction to make some carbon fiber repairs? Exposed fabric, chipped edges, and damaged resin kinda sorta thing? I chipped a corner on my spoiler and had to do some edgework to reshape my hatch. Don't want to put them on till it's fixed.

If you are talking about wet layup cf any place that does fg work should be able to do the work for you. Its pretty much the same pricinpal but you have to concern yourself with the finished appearance of the fabric under the resin. Other than that the big challenge lies with sourcing the correct resin for the job. Knowing if your parts use an epoxy or poly resin would be a good first step.

For 1000 bucks I am definitely down for a set of doors, although this will probably end up like every other carbon fiber door group but.

I will take a set of doors for the price of $1000.

BTW how are their hoods? And who make a rear hatch and fenders in CF?

the original GB price was $1200. Unfortunately, that's what it cost the company to build and manufacture this set. Plus import duty tax. These doors are going to retail for $2g + shipping, plus duty, so around $2500 a set.

The GB price is $1800 plus paypal fees, plus shipping for the first original shipment that I threw down a deposit on. After that the GB is off till the next shipment comes in (in two years) LOL.

Jeremy, you need to edit your 1st post with current pricing.

Their hoods are pretty decent. I have one on my car and it fits pretty nice. A wee bit out of spec (a few mm's here and there) but overall a nice product.

Probably no worse than my Deft hood, honestly. I've never seen a hood or body part actually bolt on these cars, even the "good" early Cianci viper hoods required a tweek or two on lots of cars.

Forum users. A new thread will be started should there be further interest. The first run of doors has been spoken for and is being quality fitted by racing professionals and a qualified site vendor.

I updated the first post, Jeremy.

All... Additionally, we did not go thru CFH as originally discussed for the development and production of these doors.
