Are the 6 speed and 5 speed 25-spline shafts actually different? I thought they were the same shaft. I installed a Output Shaft Seal into a 6 speed trans, And I just checked on supercar, and there aree 3 options available, not 2. So the 6 speed uses a different shaft AND seal than the 25 spline 5 speed?
Might explain why its fricken leaking on me.

ugh. well the story is that i bought a "92-93 25 spline" output shaft seal. originally bought it for my 5 speed. ended up buying a jdm 6 speed. installed the seal in that trans instead, taking all the care in the world to make sure it seats properly. and its leaking about a drip every 30 seconds. my trans is going to be empty soon.
I must have somehow fucked up the seal putting it in. I ordered a new one already. And new fluid.
Shit like this makes me want to get a new car

Did you fit the seal first then the output shaft?.
Maybe worth oiling the inside of the seal and the output shaft next time if you didn't last time.

yes i fit the seal to the bellhousing and then slide the bellhousing onto the shaft as carefully as possible. I am really not in the mood to drop the entire trans out and a thread on 3si says its possible to the do the 6 speed output shaft seals with the trans in the car. so i may try that. i am really not in the mood to take the entire trans back out and pull the bellhousing again.

Yeah, I actually install it after the bell housing is in, hard to get in straight, but you can mind the splines easier.

You can't get the seal by the flywheel on a 25 spline. You need to either pull the shaft, or loosen the trans from the engine a bit to get clearance.
BTW, the difference in the factory 25 spline shafts was in the length of the spline. The 6 speed was slightly longer. It fits into the 5 speed, and as far as I know the only one made by the aftermarket sources.

either way is better than completely dropping the trans again
