Ok so I have the original motor from my stealth but it had been sitting outside for about 5 years. So I recently decided to tear into it so I could break it down for easier storage. Well ive got the block completely apart except the pistons and rods are stuck in the block. Does anyone have any suggestions as how to make it easier to remove them? I should really take pictures for you guys...this thing is pretty rusty.

Yeah I was just reading about that. But I need to get my pistons out first! haha

all i can suggest is soak the bores in WD40 or a spray lube like that, hopefully penetrates (giggity) and lets you slide em out...

LOTS of PB Blaster!

If the cylinders are bad...you could probably use some sort of round grinder the get the rust out and make it easier.

fill the bores with diesel, leave for a day. the slowly try to break them free by turning the crank slightly each way.

^agreed with the diesel idea. Let them soak and them smack each piston with a rubber mallet. That will help loosen things.

hmmm...I'll have to give the diesel idea a try.

Acetone mixed with ATF.

lube it up, it always slides easier...

I've done that before with a Morris 1000 motor (950CC)

Soak the pistons/bore with oil . let it soak. Remove the crank, use a piece of wood on the rods, hit the wood with a hammer, They'll come out.
The block will be junk though as will the pistons & rods.Well the block will be OK for a rebore but stock bore is always better.

Steve

Why would the rods be junk? (Serious question, I like to learn :D)

I agree with soaking it in PB Blaster and after sitting a day or two try to turn the crank with a breaker bar.

Just a curiousity question, but the heads are off right? :p

I haven't had time to try anything lately, but I'm thinking PB blaster is probably a good idea. As it sits, the heads are off, the crank, girdle and main seal are off. Just the rods and pistons remain.

Seriously try the acetone mixed with ATF. I read a review stating its the best rust breaker around. It was posted on 3si so I know some of you guys read it as well.

I (post PB blaster, but I would think Seafoam deep creep would do better) did the crank removal technique plus wood and hammer on a 4 year rust block that sat outside. Problem was the rings were stuck in the grooves, and not just the top groove (if you assumed the piston got damaged. I should have soaked them longer in solvent.
