So I spent the past 3 days playing around/attempting to understand the ProEFI software and it has been a thrill learning more about what goes in during the tuning process. I've read up on Greg Banish's book on Advanced Tuning and I am looking forward to tuning my car.

I ordered a CAN cable that will be arriving today so today will be Day 1 in my tuning adventure. From what I studied, it seems like FSR has already done most of the work for me and there are some changes that need to be done since moving from the 3.0l to 3.1l so it's great that I have an already established base tune.

With that being said, I plan to move VERY slowly the next two days in an attempt to have my car ready for the local Dyno Day on Sunday.

So, I must ask ALL experienced tuners if it is possible to shed any ounce of experience that you may have had with tuning and certain things to look for that may be specific to 3000gts. Right now the tune is set at 25psi-- if I want to push to 30psi by Sunday what are some of the things that I should closely follow and how many increments should I up the psi from 25 before reaching 30psi? I.E. should I do 26psi, 27, 28, 29, 30?

I spoke to Mike Vincent who lives in Rhode Island and he said that he may have some free time to look over some things for me on Satuday night. I also have a local ProEFI tuner/shop owner who has been great with answering questions on top of Ian at FSR Motorsports who has also been extremely helpful. I am fortunate enough to have a lot of resources for help/gudance but I want to extend it out to anyone else who is willing to help out someone's FIRST attempt at hopping into the tuning world. I've always had the utmost respect for people who were able to build/tune their own car so I would like to have some of the respect for myself when I look at my personal build.

Thank you!

Wish me luck!

No help, but wishing you luck.

In for learning as well.

I've considered running ProEFI for the flex fuel and safety features. It's VE based tuning like the flashed ecu. AEM doesn't have this on their EMS unless you get the Infinity. It's a superior and quicker way to tune more OEM based but I would probably save the money and go with an AEM EMS v2. I continue to toss around the idea if my build goes bigger but I continue leaning towards switching towards a TT v8. I wouldn't definitely help as I'd be learning as I went too but I haven't gotten to mess with it much yet.

Wow. I realized now how fortunate I was to have FSR do the tune for me. The original setup of the proefi is extremely complicated; however, once it is setup.... it makes tuning so fun! I managed to increase the boost from 25.38psi to 28psi last night and I monitored the AFR, timing, and knock and everything was practically the same! The way they set it up makes it so once the VE is setup and the targeted goals are created, then the Proefi will do everything automatically.

I was worried at first because there were times in which my AFR jumped to 30-40 but then I realized that it was only during deceleration because there is a failsafe that cuts off fuel during hard deceleration after a WOT or a downshift to slow down.

These failsafes make tuning so amazing because I did 29psi last night before going to sleep and everything was still fine. I didn't know what I bought until now once I did more research and dug more deeply into it and I am definitely happy with the purchase!
If you want, you can do what I did and download the proefi software onto your laptop and download the xcals that they have specifically for other cars. I was playing around with a 996 and a z06 for a week while I waited for my CAN cable ($400 for it inc. Shipping). It helps you familiarize with the software and see what they set their numbers to. What I found most helpful was this link on the Supra forums. It also helps that there is a help tab for each section that gives you detailed assistance on what everything means.

Long story short, what I researched is that the hardest part of the tune is out of the way and now all I do is turn up the boost and monitor things. Someone tuned his tt 350z to 700whp and he was amazed with the ability to just keep increasing boost knowing that your engine will be safe. If it's too lean it will turn down boost and cut the fuel, if it will experience knock it let's back, if the AFR is unable to stay within a % of the targeted AFR then your CEL will go off and it'll turned down your boost to a safer setting. I must say that I had my doubts while waiting for my car if I should sell the proefi and go with a more familiar platform but after having it in my own hands I am way too impressed with the software.

I'll be attempting a 30psi dyno today at the dyno day wish me luck!

Glad it is going well for you!

FYI, Much of what you are describing is the same on a AEM. Boost comp table sets up the fueling so that you can tune it at low boost and high boost won't need adjustment unless high back pressure starts affecting the VE. Decel fuel cut isn't proefi magic either;)

So I am learning as I go. Long story short: I went to the Dyno Day and did a 25psi pull on a Mustang Dyno and this was the outcome...

So after receiving a lot of backlash from the New England community for me claiming that my build was a 500+whp build and it only hitting 410 on a Mustang Dyno... I ran the gauntlet. I was curious as to why my numbers were so low, and while they were laughing at my low numbers and mocking me for wishful thinking, I went home and browsed for a solution and came across this:

http://i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae300/ColumbiaUG/leak.jpg

So I managed to hit 410whp on Mustang Dyno (roughly 450-460 on a Dynojet) with a major boost leak at 25psi (hence my steep curve). Needless to say, after doing a quick fix with zip ties, the BOV is FINALLY screeching. I should have known that something was off since it seemed to me that the blowoff valve may have been modified to not be atmospheric because I never heard it go off.

Now, since the power feels amazing right now before I do anything else I want to double check the timing to see if that is synced and also do a test to see if I may have missed any other leaks (thank you TurboSinceBirth and Mjannusch for the help).

While awaiting the boost leak test I dabbled around with the proefi128 settings to become more familiar with it and I see where I went wrong.

First, I changed the MAX Psi of my Stage 5 I-Boost setting from 25.38 psi to 28 psi thinking that was all that I needed to do to increase my boost; however, I was a noob and didn't look over everything else:

http://i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae300/ColumbiaUG/ProEFIIboost.png

As seen above, I can change the I-boost switch settings by selecting all of the points and changing the value, but what I failed to realize is that FSR set my MAX boost at 25psi for my Wastegates/turbos:

http://i981.photobucket.com/albums/ae300/ColumbiaUG/proefiboost.png

As seen above, at the top-right corner, my WG duty cycles have values of 0 for anything above 25.38psi so even if I changed my Iboost setting to 28psi nothing changed until I change the WG duty cycle. Now that I know this, I plan to eventually push to 28psi and then 30psi after I double check to make sure everything is smooth with my timing/boost leaks.

This has been very fun to dabble with and learn so I'm looking forward to taking my time with and see where she can go! My quest for 600whp is still going!

P.S. here is my data for my high-octane spark:
