Frank, I ordered up a set last week.
If you're on the fence you can check mine out when I get them in.
The way I see it, I think these will line up with the front oem chin spoiler on the '99 front end.

Nice, is the underside hollow or is it a flat surface?
I see that the side is hollow and it looks as though the underside is flat but I just want to be sure. The inside facing hollow part I would probably fill with expandable foam to keep the airflow out but I'd want to see install pics from the underside to see how much of the hollow side is exposed.

Speed tested?
DrGonzo

My concern is the shape of the underside. that unfinished/concave underside will play havoc with the air passing under it and I don't think I'd trust it at high speeds. it really needs to be a smooth flat surface. Those downward rolled edges on the underside would generate lift and drag. Probably to the point at high speeds it would tear them right off of the self taping screws. That is all assumption though based off of the underside shape.

Once I saw the shape of the underside I lost interesting these. With the "unfinished/concave underside" it will play havoc with the air passing underneath the car. These provide no function at all, only looks.

A flat piece of ABS black plastic cut out the same shape would be better for the airflow.

Or even a flat sheet of metal, the important thing is "FLAT"

Not so sure it is as much of an issue as you are making it out to be.
A speed test will tell the tale. (GoPro vid)
It is also solved pretty easily by filling/sloping the leading, and trailing under-edge with filler, or spray foam. THe outside edge has no effect. Not something the end user should have to do granted, but can easily be done before shipment of the product.

Also understand that if this is glassed in to fill the void you just threw your jacking ability out the window.
DrGonzo
08-27-2014, 08:19 PM
You can leave a small section out for the jacking points or make a removable plug to still use them.
Mine were so bad from the previous owners, both side welds are all bent to shit all the way down the sides I had to pry a lot of it back as straight as I could to get the side skirts on. I use the front jack point under the bumper with my low-pro jack and the trailer hitch to raise the rear. One it is high enough on the 1st or 2nd notch of the jack stand the I use different points on the rear and front sub-frame.

I've been to 150mph several times with mine on my FD which are only held on by 4 screws using existing screw holes since i wouldnt allow adding holes to my car and 3M 2 sided tape. They are still there.

They DO NOT block the side jacking mounts.
These pictures suck, I have not mounted these yet, so I am just holding them up with one hand and taking a picture in the other while my 2 year old is running around the garage. haha

I need to pick up some double sided body tape. I'm going to soft mount them before tapping the body to make sure everything is level, level, level.
But, that doesn't help you today, so...
I'll edit this post in a second I'll mock something up in PS.

Ill post up some pics some time this weekend of the side splitters mounted on my 1st gen SL for those of you who are interested on how they will look on 1st gen side skirts. Wanted to put them on my 1st gen VR4 since i have a morgan motorsports front splitter mounted but its being worked on atm.

Here is an underside of where they attach on the car. Yes, my pinch weld is fubard. :(
But as you can see, these attach directly to the side skirt and will not block anything. :)

One more request once someone gets one mounted. I am concerned with the ability to retain the mud flaps front, and rear?
With these, and the mud flaps the skirt should be well protected from road fodder!

Yup. They came with some stainless self tapping screws and washers.
I have some 3M body molding tape that I will be mounting them with then adding the screws to secure them.
Good questions about the Mud Flaps. I can't answer that one. I've been looking for OEM mud flaps for a few years and have yet to find a set. :(
