Hey guys,
I recently bought a 1994 Dodge Stealth R/T ATX a few months ago and the moment I drove it, I fell instantly in love with it. Over the past few weeks after purchasing the vehicle, I decided to do the whole issues that plagued the vehicle (idle issues, the click-click start issue, installed a new starter, new fuel filter, etc.) Everything was fine and drove beautifully until one day when I was on the freeway, I was cruising down at 70mph and all of a sudden, my car seemed to go into neutral for a brief second before picking back up, which I thought was odd.
Anyways, a few days later I decided to address the issue. I went and changed the end clutch on it, then decided to replace the transmission fluid/filter since I was already doing the end clutch. I added Valvoline ATF+4 on it and made sure everything was set. I then put it back together and decided to give it a little test drive. At first it drove fine around my neighborhood and a few minutes later, the car started losing power, as if my car was shifted to neutral. I was unable to shift into any gear drive, but I had reverse, which I safely used to brought the wounded car back to my garage. Now on jack stands, I rechecked everything and redid everything. Same issue. But through the whole thing, I decided to unplug the transmission shift solenoid, and lo and behold, I was able to shift into drive and actually drove it, although seemed to be driving more like a 4-cylinder than the usual 6, but not sure if it's limping because I am unable to shift to any higher gear.
My questions are:
1. Could it be a mechanical or electrical issue? The whole unplugging the transmission shift solenoid seemed to tell me it's an electrical issue, but that whole incident with slipping into neutral assured me it could also be mechanical.
2. Could it be a broken, busted TCM, perhaps a short in the wires or a broken transmission shift solenoid? How would I go about testing the solenoids to see if they are bad?(sorry I am extremely horrible with testing with electrical instruments)
3. Also, I was reading through the forums about shift boxes, would that likely fix my issue?
4. I was also looking into the Translab shift kit, but I don't know if that will my issue or not, so not sure if I want to invest on it yet seeing that my car's kinda being a spazz at the moment.
5. This one is HIGHLY unrelated to the whole transmission problem but thought I'd ask to see if anyone knows. I have an issue with my car dying when I would turn the steering wheel all the way and it would suddenly die on me shortly after starting the car and pressing the gas. Anyone knows what may be the issue with that one?
Any advice, info, tips would be greatly appreciated and hope to get her fixing this following week, thanks! :rapture:
