Having rode with Ray before, that's how fast he shifts(other than the parking on the limiter in 1st). It's absolutely absurd.

I think he had to pedal it in 1st because of the wheel spin. Had he shifted sooner he would have bogged the car in 2nd so he rode it a little longer.

I don't see the logic.... You're on the limiter. You're not going to accelerate, or increase your speed in any way by riding it. I certainly understand how easy it is to get in that situation when you are dealing with wheel spin or other unforeseen issues, but the only thing to be gained by riding the limiter would be the time to get your head back in the game. It comes at the price of a bunch of ET though....

I had it happen driving a friend's drag car. It was only the second pass I'd ever made in that car, and I thought I had it handled well enough to make a full transbrake launch... Something happened at the top of the track and they shut us down for a short time. When they fired us back up, I didn't think it had been long enough that I needed to heat the tires up again, so I staged the car. When I let go of the button it broke loose and headed for the wall.... I pedaled it, got it pointed straight, and got back in it only to realize I was riding the limiter. Grabbed second, and had a fairly uneventful rest of the pass. My time was down over a second from what the car normally ran at that track.

Parking a big block Chevy on an 8K limiter is not something I want to do every day.... :D

When you are spinning, riding the limiter lets the actual vehicle speed catch up with engine speed. I've been on the limiter at 15 mph before. If I would have shifted into 2nd I'd be at 2500rpms bogging. You just have to ride the limiter until your actual vehicle speed is high enough for the next gear.

This is a huge issue in fwd manual cars. Rwd drag cars don't have as much of an issue because 1, they have way better traction, and 2, short shifting an auto just stalls the converter further down the track.

I can see that, I've done the same in my Cobra (Mustangs have no traction stock) I just didn't get the impression from the vid that the tires were spinning that late into 1st. Maybe I need to watch it again...

Bounce the limiter in a ford, and you have to go clear the codes... lol It sets an engine rev limit reached code.
