Since I just joined here I figured I would make this my first post. Ive been on 3si for a while but just found this site. So I had some of the early 3sx headers that cracked on me. I had the car in my friends shop to swap em out for new ones. We got to talkin and decided to just make all new ones. He has some great welders in his shop and after seeing his triple charged VR-4 I knew he could come up with a good design. Yesterday we finally got it all finished up and ready to go on the car. He made a second set based off what he made for my car and we have been test fitting both of em to make sure they fit and clear. Heres some pics of it on an extra engine thats been used for mocking it all up. Now we just need to throw in the injectors, MSD DIS-4 and tune the AEM

What turbs, from whom, and when are the number coming?

Piping looks nice! How do you guys mock up the radiator, fans, and intercooler piping when the engine is out like that?

Turbos are TD05s. I don't know if we are getting them from 3sx or what. I'm only working on it 2 days a week an then CK is doing it in his spare time to help me so its slow going but I should have numbers in the next 2 weeks or so. We have the engine that is in the pics for the welders to use. My car is also there and all parts have been test fitted onto my car to check for clearances

Very nice pipes. Is he thinking of offering a header package with this design?

I couldn't tell you. I know he made 2 sets and a jig to make more. Right now I know he makes complete turbo kidt for the C5-C7 corvettes and the GTO. I'll ask him when I see him tomorrow.

Looks pretty nice. Not worried about those open dumps in the engine bay?

Looks awesome! That's a pretty setup.

I was wondering one thing - are there any support rods or bracing between the front turbine housing flange and the exhaust flange?

Hey guys,

I'm actually the head on this project, so I can answer a few of your questions.

We fit everything to the car as we go, it's just much easier to work with the engine outside the car so we can actually see what the hell we're doing.

Very nice pipes. Is he thinking of offering a header package with this design?
This is probably going to be up to 3SX at this point. They've been a big help with the kit, and right off we're going to be only offering it exclusively through them. I'm sure they probably will be offering it as a hot-side, I wouldn't see a reason not to?

No, there aren't. They don't need them. The manifolds are retarded thick, and of course backed with a lifetime warranty. Of all the manifolds we've ever built, we've only had 1 comeback, and that was due to a weld missing, before it was ever installed on the car (we all make mistakes). Also, generally when there is a brace, the first thing to break is the brace itself. This is because the thermal heat expansion on a runner that's X thick with heated exhaust running through it expands at a different rate than a brace that's Y thick with ambient air surrounding it.

So just a quick update. I took a trip to Kansas City for a bit so this had to sit and wait. But it is all buttoned up for the most part. It just needs a few things (battery is dead from sitting ect). But I wanted to update everyone on the fit of the kit in the car.

What are the specs on the turbos? Are they that large or are you all not feeding this engine any timing?

Jeremy

They are TD-05 turbos. In not sure what the timing is set to as I want there for the tuning.

I think you'll need cams and a higher rev limit to utilize those turbos.

HilbillyHomeboy
09-19-2014, 02:37 PM
You don't know anything about them other than TD-05? I'm asking because that graph shows some ski slope lag. They're either 1,000 hp capable, or the engine needs a boat load more timing down low.

Its a slow process. Im currently jobless so itll have to wait but the head is next on the list.

They are the non MHI Evo 3 TD-05 turbos from 3SX

That's some slow spool for 16gs and bad drop off. I'd check for both preturbine exhaust leak and boost leak. Maybe a wastegate issue.

Plus the aforementioned timing.

Edit: nice looking 1g :D
