Saw this on another forum I lurk on and since most on here seem to be fans of the beverage, I thought this would be an interesting thread. Premise is simple, just rate the last beer you drank. I think a 10 point scale is reasonable.

Heady Topper

Love that it's 8% alcohol and has a good hoppy taste. Since it was voted best beer in the world by beer advocate, it's been difficult to get even living in VT. Certain liquor stores get X amount each week and people line up waiting for it.

Coors & PBR are both getting an 8?

Well I can't contribute much, because that leaves all of about 2 points to fit in the entire gamut of European biers. I think ya'll need to recalibrate your standards.

On my scale, Keystone gets a 0.1. So AMERICAN Budweiser gets about a 2-3. Meaning that Coors & PBR max at maybe a 4. MAYBE.

-Black Cab. Not bad for a dark beer, though I'm not really a dark beer fan. Maybe 6/10.
-Kriek. Cherry flavored bier. Not as sweet as you might expect. Solid 7.5/10 or so.
-Desperados. Tequila flavored beer. One of two that I tried, actually. I enjoyed it. This one wasn't quite as good as the other, but still 8/10.
-Grimbergen Blonde. Belgian pale bier. 7/10 any day of the week. Arguably the best blonde I've ever had, slightly edging out Leffe.
-Brand Oud Bruin. Best bier I've ever had. 9.7/10. Dark bier that tastes light and has a hint of plum. Epic does not begin to describe it. Maybe DuTTch can chime in. :p

I won't pretend to know anything about tastes of citrus or body or blah blah blah blah. All I know I don't particularly like beer (prefer liquor) but I enjoyed this one. Didn't taste like piss water, had a good full flavor.

Killians Irish Red

There is always a time and place, and at this time and this place, these achieve a solid 7.5-8/10.

Happy hour makes them $1.25 a pint and they are accompanied by a $4, 1/2 lb. hamburger with all the typical fixings and regular french fries at the local pub. Awesome.

The rating was based more on the atmosphere and the bartender. Everyone knows a Coors Light doesn't rate an 8 on it's own.

I maintain half of these people only say they think these things are good to appear to other beer snobs.

I had some guy come in and sit at the bar one night telling the bartender how he was a beer conseur and how he's brewed some of his own beers. well he had a sample of "Bob's". the guy then said, now that's a good beer. Almost any beer can be gagged-down if it's cold enough.

I discovered early on I didn't like Corona or Dos Equis or any Mexican beer, frankly.

The truth is, unless you're drinking German/European brews, you aren't drinking anything that'll go down well unless it's ice-cold.

As a consequence, that is MY taste-test: If it sucks at room-temp, it sucks, period.

This fact has not, however, precluded my drinking domestic stuff, long as it's pretty damn cold; a corollary to my taste-test is that beer is like pizza - even the worst can be made to work.

Having said all THAT - don't ever approach me with a bottle of Red Stripe...egad, that shit is horrible. :barfaway:

It is on that note that I find this (http://io9.com/wine-tasting-is-bullshit-heres-why-496098276) to be such an interesting read. Don't get me wrong, I still think that most of the claims about how something tastes or whatever are hogwash, but if you are in the mood for a particular glass of wine or a certain beer, drink that wine or that beer. Who gives a fat fuck about how bad or good someone else says it is, so long as you enjoy it and aren't pretentious about it.

Two Roads Honeyspot Road White IPA. I'd give it about a 7/10. Good tasting beer, a bit toned down from a traditional IPA but still flavorful. More like a heavier wheat beer.

I like this thread, good idea. I plan to contribute regularly.

Bent River Jalapeño Pepper Ale: 7.0/10

Do you like hot stuff in general & don't want others to drink your beer on you? Or, do you tend to go overboard with other beers while drinking? If so, then this should be your next beer!

It goes down like any other lighter beer, but has a nice, strong Jalapeño pepper bite for the aftertaste. It's something different, but a good different.

Just had a bells hopslam 10/10 top 3 beer for me, and had a stone enjoy by 4/20 that was pretty tasty 8/10.

I'll rate the bottled version a 9.5/10 only because it's slightly better on draft. Unfortunately it is extremely hard to find outside of Vermont and neighboring states.

A terrific dark beer that is flavorful all the way through. Never expected something like this with Sierra Nevada's name on the label.

I tried some Coors Light Summer Brew while at the NG. I have to say, that was the most disgusting, bad aftertasting beer I've ever had. I don't know what they put in it, but after drinking only 5 of them before going to bed, I woke up feeling like I had drank an 18 pack. So, no real buzz was had, but I still had to suffer like I had way over done it the night before. 0/10 rating, I would only serve this beer to someone I disliked a lot.

This stuff was just recently bottled up in Marquette, MI. Unfortunately it is only being sold within Marquette County, but hopefully it will eventually be sold in Wisconsin as well.

It is a big flavor beer. Coming in at a 7.1 abv, it was a good drink. Comes in orange/citrus and leaves you with a nice lightly bitter floral hop taste that sits on the back of your tongue.

Would drink again.

Clown Shoes Clementine White Ale. I had this on tap a couple weeks ago and it was outstanding with just the right amount of orange, not overly sweet but smelled real nice in the glass. I had a Lucky Girl Chocolate Doppelbock last night and all I can say is wow. Definitely a 9+/10. I'm not usually a fan of chocolate beers but this was more of a rich amber (almost a marzen flavor) with very subtle hints of chocolate. Outstanding.

It's the Irish Red Ale from northernbrewer.com We have a black IPA kit ready to go but I either need to buy some more 22 ounce bottles or start drinking a lot more lol.
