What do people usually do when they run these? I have a set I want to put on, but realized I'll lose the mounting points for the front/rear turbo lower heat shields. My engine already gets hotter than I like. I could get the o2 housings ceramic coated, but my turbo hot sides would still be exposed and I really don't want to pull the turbos from my car. Has anyone tried welding over mounting tabs on the dnp pipes?

I was also thinking of just wrapping the o2 housings, and getting some td04 turbo blankets. But I couldn't find anyone else running these on a 3000gt. I know lots of subaru guys run them. My dp has been wrapped for about 6 years now and has held up fine. I need to redo it though as the DP needs modifying for the front o2 housing. Both the dp and DNP front o2 housing delete the front precat.

I guess no one has ran them. I ordered a pair of blankets last night and 100' of exhaust wrap. Hopefully that is enough to do 2 precats and my dp. I went with thermalsolutions blankets instead of the PTP ones. They were rated a little higher degree wise and were cheaper.

I did look into this and it didn't look hard at all to make some tabs to mount the front one at least. The issue was mine were already ceramic coated and I didn't want to grind it off. I suppose an alternative could be to hold a small bracket on using a hose clamp or metal zip tie and then bolting the shield to that.

the rear one I can't remember how far I got with that one. It is probably the one that needs it the most. I may re-explore this when i get my engine.

Or making the heat shield independent of the housing/turbs. Fab some brackets off the firewall to fit a fitted shield within a couple inches. I will be looking into this.

Not running dnp o2 housings, but im not currently using heat shields. Such a headache getting them off that I couldn't bring myself to reinstall.

I have to do something as the heat is melting wiring on the firewall.

These are the turbo blankets I ordered. It says "subaru" turbo, but the description on their website says it will fit subaru turbos or any other td04. Hopefully I'll be able to install them easily with the turbos in the car. I'm going to use the factory header shields. My subaru turbo is in a blanket, and I have a cobb heatshield on top of that. After driving the car hard I could rest my hand right on top of the heat shield. My only concern about the wrap is that if oil gets on it, it could supposively catch on fire. I probably should carry a fire extinguisher anyhow.

I have a similar one in my wish list.

Personally I'd rethink wrapping the down pipe. It will hold water after driving in heavy rain or snow. Eventually that will lead to rusting. I realize its not mild steel, but stainless will still rust eventually, much quicker if its wrapped in water soaked exhaust wrap.

P.S. can you still buy DNP O2 housings new? I used to have their website bookmarked and it no longer exists.

I'm not worried about rust at all. The car is a summer only toy. Plus my Megan downpipe has been wrapped since 08 and it's still fine. DNP shut down their website. I know it was up a few weeks ago. I'm guessing they closed shop. It's possible that a vendor or two may happen to have some still on their shelf, but that would be it. 3sx has a non branded rear o2 housing listed on their website recently. That may be a better alternative if they release a front.

Had ridiculous fitment issues with my non branded 3sx o2 housing. It was a bigger PITA to install then the stocker and it's leaking from the flange even now. I'm going to have to pull it eventually and get it milled or something.

Just FYI

So I got the DNP o2 housings on and the turbo blankets. It was definitely a hassle. The turbos only have about 4k miles on them and for some reason 2 of the rear turbo studs broke. So I had to pull the rear turbo and drill/retap them. The blankets don't fit like a glove but I am sure they will be better than nothing. The wire it gives you to pull them together seems a little thin, but if it wasn't I guess you would have a hard time twisting it around everything. It took about 15 minutes per turbo to install the blankets and make sure that the wastegate arms cleared fine. It will be a few days before I start it.

The o2 housings wrapped nicely. I had wrapped all the way up to the top, but there is very little clearance with the DNP pipes to even thread the nuts on the studs. With the extra thickness of the wrap it was impossible. Even without the wrap I had to modify a wrench with an angle grinder to be able to tighten one of the nuts. I thought about cutting the wrap around all the studs, but then the wrap would just get frayed there and look like crap. So I didn't wrap all the way to the top. I also cut my hand open pretty good on one of the metal zip tie edges that I clipped.

I wish someone made blankets like for bigger turbos that are cut exactly to fit, button together, and even go part way down the o2 housings so it covers the flange itself.

I had to modify my downpipe to mate up to the front o2 housing as I couldn't have 2 pipes trying to delete the front precat. I got it wrapped and installed the other day and started the car for the first time in weeks last night. Everything smoked as it was breaking into the the heat for the first time. It will be a little while before I can drive the car though as I'm waiting on some longer rear brake lines and my coilover order from Maximal.

I'll be interested to see how this turns out for you. I'm on the fence between whether I'll wrap my tubulars, precats, DP and turbos, or just get them ceramic coated. Leaning towards ceramic coating, but only because I haven't seen much feed back on wrapping the turbos for the platform and would rather have it all match.
