My dad recently purchased a 1991 3000gt SL 6cyl for me.
I am totally head over heels in love with this car.

I would love to get it back to its former glory. I just don't know how to come upon some of this stuff. I've got a couple ideas to run by you, maybe you all can see it how I do and will tell me if I should or should not. The former owner let it sit for several years. My dad bought it and got her runnin like a dream. She needs the alternator belt replaced & the throttle position sensor replaced as well. Other wise she is a dream come true..!!

**NOT SHOWN**
I will post an image tomorrow if the snow doesn't get too awful crazy. My Mitsu emblem off the front is missing. (where and how much can I get one?)
Also the "3000 GT ____" on the back rightside of my car isnt there anymore. Where can I get that too. (Ill have to post a pic. it looks weird. I may have to redo the bumper.) damn. :(

1) Hood chips. I guess the previous owner tail gating? Pretty big rock chips of some sort. I would like to re do the hood, but possibly in a dark silver color...?? Yay or nay???

2) I'm sure I just need to order two new inside door panels. They are starting to crack, probably from the years of sitting in the sun. :'( I don't think they can be replaced. Any site where I can find two black ones?

3) Warped Dash Syndrome.... :( Both the Dash and the Dfrost vents are warped from the sun. Total replace I'm 100% sure. Need to know where I could get these??

4) Dafuq is going on with my weather stripping thing?!? Is it supposed to be Chrome? Or Black? My DS is black. PS is black and chrome..!! Cost and where to get these?!?!?!?!

Thank you for any tips and all comments...!! :) :)

#1. You might be better off doing a repaint on the hood.

#2 There are a few people who sell used parts here. Check out GZP and Mitoska.

#3 That is a common occurrence. A few vendors sell replacement vents.

#4 It is supposed to be black. The peeling is a common occurrence. The real thing to check is how hard or soft the rubber strip is. If it is really hard you are best off replacing them with new. If they are still pliable you can probably sand the "chrome" part and use plastidip to make it look better.

Is it difficult to get those trims off? I've never really dealt with those kind of parts before. I'd like to do as much as I can myself.
Thank you so much..!! :)

To get the trims off you have to take the door panel off. Then you have to take the triangle piece off the front of the door. 3 bolts hold that on. After that there is one screw at each end of the trim and it will come off. Might take a little prying to get it started, but its really not hard.

Door panels on a 3s are cake. There are two screws on the leading edge near the door jamb. The screw in the door handle cup. Two screws toward the front of the door. Then you have to take the carpeted panel off the bottom and there are 3 screws under it. Once those are off you have to lift the panel slightly and it pops right off.

If I remember right there is a write up with pics on Stealth 316 Home (http://www.stealth316.com)

That site is like the 3s bible

You'll be able to find a lot of the parts you need on the 3SX site. Just remember, this is a limited production car that was relatively expensive when they were new. Parts are hard to find and not cheap. Good luck with your restoration!

3kgtGirl, welcome to the owning the double edged sword! Haha, no really, just don't get discouraged, take your time, do things right, do your research on this forum, and others as there are probably many different threads on the same subject for everything and anything you are looking for. You'll love your car the more you take care of her and she will love you back with what you achieve.... and then she'll get bitchy with you! But don't fret, it's the love for these cars that keeps us putting so much love into them. Browse around the forum, do some searches and you won't have to look far to get the answers you seek.

Now, to the rest of the forum.... :tongue-new:LMAO!!!! I find it so funny how if 3kgtGirl had been 3kgt"BOY", this thread would have had triple the responses by now and with a totally different approach than stealthee's to inform this newcomer on the platform! But I like how everyone was biting their lips!! Hopefully we can all be a little easy on the newbs to our beloved platform, because with a little positive guidance, they are what will keep our cars alive for years to come.

(Note to self... Tell newbs to sign up as girls at first!)

If you want a temporary solution for the window/door trim seals, the DSM crew likes to use electrical or black vinyl tape. Just sand it kind of smooth so any lose stuff flakes off, then tape over it. Honestly I bought a beater DSM before and didn't even notice that someone had done that to it. Get new aluminum vents from ebay (black anodized) or 3sx. You'll have to pull the dash but it's not bad. The aluminum finish will reflect more in the window. As for the hood if the rock chips really bug you you and you didn't want to get it repainted, you could featheredge all the deep rock chips with some 320 grit, scotch brite the whole hood, then spray it with 3 cans of black plastidip. It will give it a nice matte like finish and cost you less than $20. You could always peel it off later if you decided to paint it. Door panels from the dealer are really pricey (I think like $400-$500 a piece if I recall). Just try to find some used ones. You can usually find a mint set for $150ish, just not everyone is willing to ship. You could find some that are in better shape than yours for cheaper.

For those outside upper door belt moldings, you could always use some plasti-dip on them...Another option would be to scuff them up & then hit them with some SEM black trim paint...new ones are around $90/side, whereas these solutions will cost around $20-$25 to carry out.
