Welcome again to one of my build threads! This time I picked up a 1980 Porsche 924 turbo!
Essentially I walked away with 200$ invested in buying this car.
Wondering what zfg means? ZERO F#*&S GIVEN. . Meaning its going to get modded and put together with whatever I can make work.
Wondering what I got for 200$? Well I drove it home an hour and it starts every time and runs and handles well.

Wondering what kind of problems I got for 200$ ? Brakes are funky, from a partially collapsed left front line, clutch master is leaking , found a small coolant leak and front right has a dust shield that was rattling because no bolts were in it.
Interior was non existent, no radio, blower motor doesn't work, sunroof has been replaced by a piece of sheet metal and crappy paint.

That thing looks like it was really thrashed & bashed before!!

My GTI runs on CIS. It's frustrating. It's great when it works right, and your system doesn't have all of the tacked on electrical shit that mine does, so it should be fine. Throttle response is superb, and it makes good power when it's tuned properly.

nodoze

Its pretty basic the only thing extra I see if some injector on the intake manifold. That I can not find the connector for. Going to try and make a cold air intake for it

Sent from my XT881 using Tapatalk

DocWalt
12-13-2013, 03:08 PM
It's CIS Lambda, that extra injector is used for cold starts. I'm not sure a cold air intake would do much, they're completely useless on VWs of that era.

Got some work done today, new sunroof replacement cut just need longer rivets, made a radio plate for glove box area may re design that Idk if I'm happy with it. Replaced the clutch master cylinder. Boy that was a pita.

Book says their is supposed to be a return spring pressing one way pulling another but could not find it finally got the settings adjusted after way to much time.
Got the front splitter made, compression and mounting points drilled and bottom painted. Will paint top tommoro and install. Pics to follow

Yes made from wood 1/2 plywood, painted and sprayed with bed liner. Then I had some extra compression rods laying around finished the install and its sturdy enough I can put weight on the front and lower the front suspension or my shocks are that wore out

The boys try to make an Avantime faster than an Evo part 2 (series 12, episode 3) - BBC Top Gear (http://www.topgear.com/uk/videos/homemade-evo-2)

Skip to about 6 mins of the 2nd video

The team attempted to make an ordinary second hand car (a Renault Avantime, which posted a reference time of 1:42.5) lap the test track as fast as a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X, which managed 1:28.2. They were given half the cost of an Evo (£15,000) minus the cost of the Avantime (£5,200) leaving them £9,800 to spend on improving the car.

The modifications included fitting new brakes - which were too big for the wheels to fit on - forcing the team to spend more on bigger wheels and track tires; an adjustable suspension kit and swapping out the front seats for lighter racing ones. May spent the entire first night attempting to tune and restore the engine to its former glory of 210 bhp (156 kW), he almost succeeded, getting it up to a respectable 206 bhp (153 kW).

The next day, Hammond fixed a rear wing from a Super Aguri SA07 Formula 1 car to the rear of the car, to which Clarkson commented would be useless as it was a front wheel drive car and the spoiler would push the rear of the vehicle down. Clarkson also fitted a wooden splitter, which he fashioned himself, to the front of the vehicle, which promptly caught fire. During the Stig's lap, the wooden splitter also helped ruining the car's handling by popping the rear out and causing tires to lock.

After several attempts the car finally managed a time of 1:35.4 on the track in the hands of The Stig, which resulted in the team pointing out how much money is wasted on trying to improve cars and how little it does to improve the overall quality and performance of the vehicle – most of the improvement that they did manage came from removing unnecessary weight, and May's retuning of the engine, neither of which cost anything beyond the time and effort that was put in.

i personally am a big fan of the shadow phantom 750, btw.

They are both Yamaha, the flat black one is a Yamaha bolt, 950cc meant to be a competitor with a sporster class bike. Sounds great seating position good. Price at that dealer was 8200 I found I can get them for 7600 .
The other bike is a Yamaha stryker, meant to compete with a Harley fat bob /dyma glide . It was a 1300cc engine. A lot heavier than the bolt. It is brand new as well but a 2012 hold over. They are asking 9800 at this dealer I found I can buy 12 hold over for 8300 else where. I have not begun any sort of haggling process. Kinda wanted some opinions. I'm pretty split on the two. The bolt seems more me. Aggressive, different etc. But I know the stryker will not hesitate to carry me on a 5 hour journey and not kill my back etc. But I have never been a long trip person or it could be never had a bike to do it on.

edited due to me not throughly thinking sentences while i type o nthe go .the megans are alittle bigger in size than my struts , idk if the megans fit stock wheels or not. i bolted my isc 's on put the stocks on the ground and went , idk if in the rear wheel tip in after proper alignment would be an issue against the strut or not . i had megans on my 94tt but never tried stock wheels had 5zigens on it right away and then rota's , back spacing on the rotas are just right imo

Megan's are a little bigger strut because they are cheaply made in comparrision to the mid rang struts. My struts are isc and are same size as my friends BC ram series which are smaller than Megan also my alignment is off ATM as I redid a lot of stuff. But I have never had problems with rota clearing even the Megan's I had on my 94tt
