Hello 3SGTO crew, first post on here.

I'm looking to get new shocks and lowering springs for my 99 VR4. I'm looking to lower the car a little, so I'd like to go with the Tein H-Tech or H&R since they are both close to an inch drop. I don't want to get coilovers since I daily drive the car. Problem is that most of the lowering springs and shocks for the rear only work on 91-95 VR4s with ECS. When looking at the various options, you see the message "will not work on 96+ models equipped with electric sunroof" or "will not work on models without adjustable suspension" (my car).

It looks like I'd have to convert certain parts of the rear suspension in order to be able to use any of the lower springs, or some of the shocks like the KYB GR2s. Does anyone know what parts I'd have to swap in order to make this happen? I'm guessing there's a spring perch and maybe some rear strut mounts that I'd have to change.

Shocks I'd like to get:
KYB 3000GT / Stealth GR2 Rear Shock - Shocks & Struts - Suspension - Turbo - 3000GT / Stealth (http://store.ipsmotorsports.net/mitsubishi-3000gt-vr-4/turbo/suspension/shocks-struts/kyb-3000gt-stealth-gr2-rear-shock.html)

Springs I'd like to get:
H&R 3000GT / Stealth Sport Springs Set - Springs - Suspension - Turbo - 3000GT / Stealth (http://store.ipsmotorsports.net/mitsubishi-3000gt-vr-4/turbo/suspension/springs/h-r-3000gt-stealth-sport-springs-set.html)
Tein 3000GT / Stealth "H-Tech" Springs - Springs - Suspension - Turbo - 3000GT / Stealth (http://store.ipsmotorsports.net/mitsubishi-3000gt-vr-4/turbo/suspension/springs/tein-3000gt-stealth-h-tech-springs.html)

Welcome to the board. An alternative you seek is here... http://www.3sgto.org/transmission-suspension-drivetrain/10273-my-mitsubishi-3000gt-stealth-ecs-controller-project.html

duke3k, Marcus, sells an ECS retrofit controller that allows all makes and models of 3/S convertible to electronic controlled struts. What you require is ECS struts, perches, silencers, ECS caps, H-Tech springs, and Marcus' plug and play unit.

I have personally tested the unit. I own one of the first prototypes and also ran H-Techs. Marcus also runs H-Techs and converted his 1998 VR-4 to ECS.

Again, welcome! You have selected a good forum for advanced technical information.

Wow, that is impressive that somebody was able to make this. It would be great to get the ECS style suspension in my 99.

I was looking through the renegadetechworks website and there's a link "ECS struts hardware" that shows a photo of all the equipment needed for the conversion. Thing is it doesn't list the individual parts.

Anyone know what these parts are that I would need for the conversion? Here is a link to that page:
ECS Struts Hardware (http://www.renegadetechworks.com/index.php/installation/ecs-struts-hardware)

I'm still thinking I'd like to go with KGB GR2 shocks all around. Going to ECS shocks would be nice, but also seems like it might be a lot of labor to put in all of the extra electronic components. I'm not doing the work myself, and am not looking to spend a ton of money, so I think just the conversion so I can use Tein H Tech or H&R Springs with those KYB GR2 shocks is the way to go.
