I haven't been able to get any responses on the other site, so I figured I'd try here.
These are my first turbo rebuilds and I can't find any helpful information on whether or not I need a major or minor rebuild kit. As far as I can tell, the difference is that the major kit contains the thrust pieces. My question is how to tell if I need to replace those components.
If it helps, I am rebuilding these 13T turbos because I spun a bearing and they locked up due to loss of oil pressure or bearing material being lodged between the shaft and the bearing. I smoothed the shafts and housings and they are now in great condition. Clearances measured the same as before the smoothing. They didn't need much at all, just 10 even and gentle turns with a wet 2000 grit sand paper and then again with regular copy paper. They were previously rebuilt and only had around 20 miles on them before the failure. They had zero shaft play side to side, or in and out.
Any help would be appreciated.
