View Full Version : Pin 93 for wideband output

I'm installing an AEM wideband so I can data log my AFRs with Evoscan. I've read Greg's tutorials on how to do it, but do I need to buy a pin or is a pin installed without a wire? If I need to buy a pin, what size?
Thanks.

You need to buy a pin and wire. The vendor from whom you purchased your ecu from will likely have one.

You can't buy individual pins anymore. Haven't been able to for years. They only sell them in sets of 500 now.
Both Adam and Brett can sell you a pin with the wire attached (you need a special tool) which you can just soder your wideband 5V output onto.
Remember to scale your wideband in the ROM

One can also go to the junkyard and snag an entire connector from a newer Mitsu that used the same style connectors and take the pins with wire out of it as needed (this is what I did from an 02 Diamante). Cost will probably be about the same, just depends on how quickly you need the pin.

Is he asking in regards to a chromed ECU or just a stock ECU?
The stock wiring for the ECU should have the wire/pin there already. Atleast I know my 1st Gen had the wire there.

Pin 93 is the fuel tank pressure sensor input on a 98/99 car. None of the previous year cars had this sensor.
On Brett's adaptor harnesses this pin should be open (unless you request the wire for it). On Jesters PnP ECUs he uses the extra plug input for the 1G cars and pin 77 on the 2G cars (which I believe is open).

It's a 99 VR4 with a stock ecu (re flashed with chrome). So if I understand correctly, I need to contact Brett or Jesters for a pin/wire combo.
Is it still pin 93 on a true 99 vr4? Do I just remove the fuel tank pressure sensor wire from the harness and replace it with my wideband output wire (with new pin). Could I just soder my WB output wire into the fuel tank pressure sensor wire?

On my cars I pulled the pin out of the harness and crimped an ECU pin into the 5V output from the wideband. Easy reversibility that way.

I went ahead and soldered the WB wire to the fuel tank pressure sensor wire and rescaled the parameters. I verified it was the proper wire with Evoscan and it works great. The idle is now a little funky, it sits around 1300 and it will drop down to 800 or so every once and awhile almost like a solenoid is activating/deactivating. Do I need to disengage the fuel tank pressure sensor or something else via Chrome?
I did install an AEM Tru boost at the same time as the WB, but I've ruled that out as being the issue. I removed all vacuum lines and placed everything back to the way everything was pre truboost. I also disconnected both the WB and boost controller from the power supply to see if that was the issue...No change when I did both. Thoughts?

You need to disengage the fuel tank sensor otherwise your wideband readings are going to be off.

Disengage it in Periphery 2? Or is that just the fault light? I have the fuel tank pressure test (p0450) off.

Im saying you need to physically unplug the fuel tank sensor unless you just cut the signal wire instead of tapping it.

Ok I gotcha, I cut the wire and taped the other end off. Thanks. Is the sensor located next to the stock boost controller on the firewall? If so, it's disconnected and you bought all that from me..

We are talking pin 93 correct??
That sensor is physically located on the fuel tank in the back of the car.

Not the fuel pressure regulator solenoid, ICP.

The FPR solenoid is an output from the ECU. The fuel tank sensor is an input.

Yes pin 93. I looked in the Service Manual (96) and could not find where it was located, but I'm sure it'll be obvious once I take the tank cover off. I need to get a copy of the 99 SM..

It's kinda hard to see but if you take the access cover off for the fuel pump and look under there towards the back of the car, you'll see it. It's very hard to reach with the tank still installed on the car.

Got it off with a pick, flash light, and a mirror. I especially like how they put an injector clip on it :eh: It still idles funky, but it might just be an IAC issue that coincidentally started after installing my WB and boost controller.

..or you messed something up with your WB or BC install...

I was leaning towards that, but I've removed all associated vacuum lines for the boost controller and it does the same thing. I also removed the power supply for the the gauges and it didn't do anything differently . I just have to dig deeper...

Are you absolutely sure you did the vac lines correctly for the boost controller? Messing those up can cause funky idle issues.

Yea I'm pretty sure. It's per the instructions. Waste gate pressure on the left and boost pressure (y-pipe) on the middle. I need to pressure test the system anyways, but I've been holding off until I installed my Silicon intercooler hoses,Evox BOV, and new y pipe. All the stock parts I take off will be for sale if you're interested..

I need all the bolts that hold all the brackets on. The ones for the solenoid pack you removed and the ones that go onto the plenum.
Also need the hard line that goes from the front to the back of the motor.

The bolts were in the box (not sure on plenum one) and I never found the hard line.I put all the bolts in a separate zip lock bag.

I need to wire in my Wideband as well.
ICPREY: I have a 1998 and just wanted to confirm how you wired it up. Basically you just cut the wire from pin 93(fuel sensor) and soldiered it to the wideband wire, is this correct?

Ah yep! Found the bolts last night.

Yes that is how I did mine. If you want it to be 100% reversible do what Greg mentioned and de-pin pin 93 and install a pin on the wideband output wire. I don't plan on ever selling the car (heard that before) and I didn't want to wait for a pin. Take your time with locating the proper wire, the picture of the ECU connectors can be a little confusing at first.
