View Full Version : Chrome - blown hose limp mode?

I was boosting down the highway yesterday only a few miles from home and had a hose blow off the front turbo - whoosh... no power... dead on the side of the road waiting for a tow. Could see, but not reach for a roadside repair.

Car would start and run fine for a few seconds but would then immediately die because most/all of the air the engine was using wasn't going through the MAF.

Is there any sort of limp mode that could be used (triggered, for example, by disconnecting the MAF) which would allow me to at least get the car safely to the next exit? I imagine a combo of startup settings, closed loop mode and very limited rev cut would work. Any thoughts?

I think if you unplug yhe maf it'll run in limp mode.

Damn - should have tried that. Didn't think of it until I had completed the repair.

Haha! Yeah Limp Mode is a feature of the stock ECU. :)

You can even tune it with chrome. Works great!

😳. So I'm thinking like a Japanese engineer from the late 80s/early 90s? Could be worse. Wish I knew of this feature. I could have saved an hour on the shoulder and a tow.

On my NA, I was actually able to get limp mode to work so well, it drove almost like stock.

Doesn't work as smoothly on a turbo car though. :(
