Building yet another car. This time, it will be a bad ass ride. Its a 67 Corronet 500, 383 car with power windows front and rear.
We are throwing in a nice 440, removing all the trim and doing a full show quality paint job. Havent decided on a color yet, considering sublime green though.
Here are some nice pics to get started, more to come within the next few days.

Ditch the power windows. Motors weigh about a hundred pounds each. And they drain about 15-20 HP when opening/closing and over 5 HP just sitting there thinking about operating.
Just sayin. Have you ever witnesses the windows actually working????????????? Thought not.
Can't wait to see it with paint and a nice shave. :)

Brought the car in the garage today. Pulled the engine, trans and most of the nose. Began pulling the K frame as it is going to be repainted and every bushing in the front end is being replaced. Getting a little excited, this thing will be a beast.
The power windows are STAYING, I dont care what they weigh, they are extremely rare, especially on a 500. Power windows were typically found on a R/T.

LOL, I promise the panther will be done before the Runner gets started on. I finished buffing the shell last night, I think this might be my best paint job to date. After buffing, the paint took on a deep cherry type of shine over the pink. I wet sanded with 1000, 1500, 2000, then DA polished with 3000. After that it was buffed with 2 stages of compound.

Reminds me of my 67 Charger as far as most of your trim is concerned. Not a fan of pink though as it was never an option on that car. You're about 3 years and a couple body styles too early.

Totally aware that the pink isnt original to that car. Shaving all body moldings and badgeing isnt original either. This car was originally a 383 car, now it has a 440. So you might guess, original was never in the scope of this project.
Many of the parts on your Charger are actually identical to the coronet, we are using 67 charger fenders. Did you restore that car? Looks good.

Did y'all paint it at the house? How hard is that?
CoreyB
04-10-2014, 12:56 PM
Yes, I painted it right in the position its in, in the pics. It wasn't hard, I have shot my fair share of cars. We did a lot of body work to the car, then 2 coats of primer surfacer, sanded that to 320. Then a coat of sealer, 3 coats of pink and finally 3 coats of clear. The clear was wet sanded by hand with 1000, 1500, 2000 and 3000 on a DA polisher. After the sanding it was buffed with Meguiars Solo buffing compound.

Ive just been getting this astronomical quotes for a paint job and i don't remember it being so damn expensive. My dad shot one of my cars a couple of years ago but now he doesn't want to mess with it anymore :( And I don't know what the fuck I'm doing painting wise.
I know its a lot of time and labor but I'm just afraid to screw it up. Is there any way to practice? Like would it be a good starter to start with one separate panel?
CoreyB
04-10-2014, 01:48 PM
I will usually start on a piece of cardboard to get the gun set up right. Its definitely not an easy thing to do, but I am sure you could pull it off. There are many good youtube videos that you should watch that people will actually teach you how. If you ever have any questions, dont hesitate to ask me. I am by no means an expert, my last paint job was the VR4 I sold last year, but I am willing to help if I can.
I am considering doing a "how to" video when I start on the Road Runner, a complete start to finish build.

Thanks. I did the same with the upper aluminum molding on my fenders. My 67 was my first restoration i tackled in high school. We virtually share everything below the roof. Like yours mine was a 383 that someone put a 318 in. I swapped her back into a 440 though and popped in a 3.91 sure grip.
I have nothing against the pink. I think it tends to look better on the smaller more rounded body lined cars.

Looks really good man. Definitely keep the pics coming. What's your plan for the transmission and rear end? Is that just a stock 440 with an intake or did put a cam in as well?
CoreyB
04-12-2014, 10:13 PM
The 440 is a mystery, its supposed to be built but we didnt pull the heads so we have no idea whats in there. Has a 727 trans and high gears in the back, 2.73 I think? Its going to be a cruiser, wont be a drag car. A quick change of the chuck to a low gear would probably make it a 12 second car.
Correction: dad says the rearend has 2.91 gears.

Pretty sure they are just all factory rubber replacements. My dad isnt a big fan of poly, so I doubt he went that route.

my dad gave me his 1966 Coronet as my first car. he had bought the car new in 1966 and it lasted me for many years until the head on collision in 1988. two door with a white interior, lots of fun in that car. :)

Haha mystery 440 hey.. Hopefully your in for a lumpy idle, power making surprise. Nice score with the sure grip though, you'll definitely want that if you ever want to hook that power up. Like Charger said I agree that 3.23 will suit the car pretty well. Should help keep it in the power band a little better too.
Btw if you haven't yet. Check out 440source website.
