Hi folks, I'm posting this up now to give everyone plenty heads up. I'm trying to put together a "Cars and Coasters" gathering in Sandusky, OH, in Sept. Here are the details thus far:
When: Sept. 7th and 8th 2013
Where: Cedar Point/Sandusky, Ohio.
A facebook page for the event is here: https://www.facebook.com/events/151944055001971/
Here is the finalized schedule:
Saturday, Sept. 7th
10:30 am: Meet up in the Meijer parking lot on Milan road. We'll park near the back, closest to the street.
11:00 am: Head over to dowtown Sandusky to check out the Cruisin' by the Bay (http://www.cruisinbythebay.org/) car show.
1:30 pm: Lunch at the Dockside Cafe (http://sanduskydockside.com/) near downtown Sandusky. The cafe is right on the lake.
2:00 pm: We will go on a short cruise around the Lakeside/Marblehead area, with possibly a stop at Marblehead Lighthouse (http://parks.ohiodnr.gov/marbleheadlighthouse ) .
After that we will probably head over to Island Adventures (http://www.island-adventures.net/index.html) for some mini golf or go-karts.
When we're done we will head back to Sandusky to get checked into hotel.
7:00 pm: Meet up for dinner at Manny's (http://mannyssportstavern.com/)
9:00 pm & after: We probably cruise around a bit, and make a stop over at Toft Dairy (http://toftdairy.com/) for some ice cream. After that we can cruise some more, hang out at the hotel, or whatever we feel like doing.
Sunday, Sept 8th:
10:00 am: Meet up for breakfast at Steak 'n Shake on Milan Rd.
11:15 am: Caravan over to Cedar Point for some kick-ass coasters! CP's hours are 12-8 that day.
Please post up if you'd like to join us! It will be an awesome time!
UPDATE:
I had a small number of rooms put on hold for our group at the Sleep Inn, in Sandusky. Here's some info on it: Sleep Inn Sandusky - Hotels.com (http://www.hotels.com/hotel/details.html?pa=9&pn=1&ps=9&tab=description&destinationId=1536480&searchDestination=Sandusky&hotelId=105900&arrivalDate=09-07-13&departureDate=09-08-13&rooms)
The rate is $69.99/night (for 2 adults - $5.00/night extra per adult). The downside is that it looks like they only have double bed rooms left at this rate. That could always change depending on cancellations though, so you can ask when you call to make a reservation. The only other rooms I was told they have left are $139+ per night. If you would like to stay at this hotel with us, please send me a pm and I will give you the reservation number.
The are a lot of other hotels in this area if you would like to stay somewhere else. Here is a map showing some: Hotels.com - hotels in Sandusky, Ohio, United States (http://www.hotels.com/search/searchmap.html?cd=09-07-13&dd=09-08-13&nr=8&pn=1&r=2%3B2%3B2%3B2%3B2%3B2%3B2%3B2&rl=CITY%3A1536480%3AEXACT_RED%3AHIGH&so=PRICE&vc=true&vt=MAP#cd=09-07-13&dd=09-08-13&nr=8&pn=1&r=2%3B2%3B2%3B2%3B2%3B2%3B2%3B2&rl=CITY%3A1536480%3AEXACT_RED%3AHIGH&so=PRICE&vc=true&vt=MAP&hn=&pfcc=USD&ming=0&maxg=5). The Sleep Inn is right off of Milan Rd. near Hwy 2. There are a few really cheapy hotels and some more expensive ones, all right in that same area.
Wherever you decide to stay, if you know for sure that you are going, I would recommend making your reservation ASAP. Between Cedar Point and the car show going on in town, I'd imagine the hotels will be filling up fast.
