View Full Version : The Complete 3000GT Production Numbers by Color

I've seen a lot of posts through the years asking about how many of each color 3000GT were made. The Stealth figures have been readily available for a long time and there is a VR-4 list out there but I've never seen a complete 3000GT list and I think it would be great if it were all in one place, so here is a list I put together from a few other posts here and on different sites and some of my own VIN searches. These are based on CAPS figures and obviously not 100% accurate compared to what was actually sold but it is still a good place to get a general idea as to how rare your car really is.
I'm missing a lot of N/A figures, so if you've got one that's not on here yet please run the VIN through one of the online databases available (3kgt.com or ypass.net), post your numbers and I'll update the list. If I've got something wrong let me know and I'll fix it, I did not run all of these myself and I'm sure several of them are incorrect. Please note that the color names are as printed in the sales brochures each year and may differ from what comes up from the VIN search (or what you think your car color should be called.) For a couple of the years I've found colors in the searches that aren't listed in the brochure, like Panama green in '98, so I've added them but not sure if they should be there or not.

cool. so as i suspected, olive & purple are the rarest...by a significant margin. 1 belgian green in 1996...that's a keeper. not sure how many tt's in belgian/olive were made in 1996...but i'm sure they're equally rare.
that would be rather cool if someone had every single one of them from 1996 in his/her stable.

I updated the list again, now have all the production numbers for the rarer of the 2nd gen colors 94-97 except for the Belgium Green SLs. Can anyone help out with that one? Blue, yellow, and Sorrento red are complete. Still need numbers for plenty of more common colors too, just haven't spent much time searching the classifieds for them. If you've got one I'm missing please post!

Is he a member here yet? If you ever get the chance, you should tell him to post up. Maybe we should start a registry for the rarer colors, help keep them in good hands.

He is a member on 3Si, I don't think he is on this site at all. He was actually thinking of selling it, fortunately he wants a lot for it so it will probably stay put for now.

Sorry if I missed this but where did you gather this info? I had always remembered from my research that there was only 1 '97 VR-4 produced that was B34. God help me if I find that one (or one of the 4).

Most of the VR4 #s come from a previous post and I've been running VINs through the storyteller as I have time to update and add in the SLs and bases. The figures are generated from CAPS and may not reflect actual cars sold, such as the green 96 Spyders which do not actually exist. It is quite possible that there was only one blue 97 VR4 sold and not four. This only serves as a rough guide but gives everyone a pretty good idea as to how rare a specific color is.

Yea, the spyder numbers are all wrong. I had the correct list of exterior colors at one point, I'll have to try to dig it up again.

A lot of the numbers are wrong. The Spyders, a whole block of missing VINs from 91, the missing 95 Stealth TTs, and some incorrect counts from later on. There were missing VINs from 97 too. It affected the count of the blue and belgium green cars especially. I've got all the details at home.
Bottom line is, the storyteller is an educated guess at best. Pretty much any time someone says "my car is 1 of x" they really should be putting an * after it.
*Based on incomplete VIN data.

At the beginning of this thread a very wise man posted the following disclaimer of sorts:
These are based on CAPS figures and obviously not 100% accurate compared to what was actually sold but it is still a good place to get a general idea as to how rare your car really is.
... If I've got something wrong let me know and I'll fix it, I did not run all of these myself and I'm sure several of them are incorrect.
So take it as a rough estimate but nothing more. Just trying to help out here...
Jeff, if you have better data for the 97s please let me know, I'm well aware that those numbers may be way off and would love to update them to make the list more accurate. Thanks!

Blue in 94/95 (and the rare few from 97) was the same. There were two different blues used on first gens: Fiji blue and Jamaican I believe.

Looked up a VIN for a '91 VR4 that had been on eBay and it doesn't come out with a paint code: JA3XE74C9MY003000
In the database it just says it is one of 285 "no color info" 1991 3000GT VR4s. Anyone else seen one of these? It appears to be Fiji Blue. It has an Autocheck history so the VIN is likely legit.

The VIN is legit, but the database is missing a lot of data, including the paint codes for some vehicles.

Updated the list again. The numbers for SLs are now all complete, all that leaves are some bases for 91 and 92, which I'm realizing are very rare cars with low production numbers. I never realized that all bases came wingless until 1993 model year.

There were 7 danube blue VR4 made in 1997. I know where one of them is it had 52k on it last time I saw it. The guy wouldn't sell it thing sits in his garage on a mini lift with a cover. It's his baby.

Do you happen to know the VIN? It is quite possible that I somehow reversed the blue VR4 counts for 96 and 97. This list isn't an exact science.

My 97 VR4 in Solano Black Pearl, one of 150 made in that color that year, 187xxx on the clock, still runs strong.
My 97 SL ATX in Glacier White Pear one of 364 made in that color that year, 274,462 miles on the clock still going strong.
