I'm assuming these are only to be used once? I had to replace my hub and my castle nut threads are completely flat after I removed it. It just slides over the spindle now and I need another one before I can drive. Does NAPA sell castle nuts or do I have to drive all the way to Mitsubishi for one?

I tried NAPA once for one of those and had no luck in my town. Its metric so they basically said no haha. I would just go to mitsubishi.

I have no problem reusing them providing they are in good condition(obviously not an option for you at this point), but if you can't find a new one, I wouldn't be afraid of a good used one. Are the threads on the axle OK? You have any idea why it stripped the nut?

I have reused mine probably 30x
Crazy thats yours did that. Check your axle, and get one from Mits. I remember seeing NAPA with one yesterday here, but I don't know if it was metric or not, but it appeared to be the right size and all.

Threads on the spindle appear to be OK. I'll call NAPA today.

You can re-use the nut (provided threads are good), but you want to replace the lock washer behind it...
It's sprung one direction and loses that after use.

I've never replaced the lockwasher and never had a problem.

Same here. The fact there there is a gap in the washer is going to cause it to lock, not really the spring out. Once you have so much torque, 144-180ft/lbs is what I believe the torque specs are, that washer isn't going to be "pushing" out anyway.

thats fine, all Im saying is if you've seen a new one next to a used one they are different...I would then expect themto potentially perform differently.
I'm not going to say there's going to be a problem, but to argue by saying "i've done whatever, and never had a problem" is not a good basis for a logical argument...just sayin, because I hear that alot.

Its perfectly logical but its personal experience. I've never had a nut back off so its not a real issue.

I'm not sure you guys understand how split lock washers work, but whatever, lol....
For the extra dollar why not just put a fresh one on?

When its not needed why waste that dollar?

Nevermind...duplicate posting for some reason...
My point is that a split lock washer becomes less effective after use and best practice
is to replace (IMO)....we'll have to agree to disagree on this one, lol.

I know its not really the same, but I work on submarines and we have certain parts that are mandatory for a reason. Lots of the mandatory parts are 10 cent o-rings and lockwashers and that type of thing.
I have re-used my lockwasher before on my axles, I have also replaced them when I got a new CV kit (shaft, nut, washer). I have seen one of my washers flatten and had to go buy a new one.
I would go buy one.

Its common recommended practice to always replace all lock washers. I personally never do and never have a problem. To each there own here. Some people play by the rules 100% all the time. I know where corners can be cut and where they can not.
