View Full Version : Custom Built Car PC's?

This isn't a for sale thread.
Is there a market for these things? I found a wholesaler for PC parts and can produce them fairly cheaply and custom build them to one's needs. I don't know if there is a demand for custom built CarPC's and don't really want to get into this and lose money.
So is there anyone that would pick one up but is too intimidated to build one?

Why build one when you can buy one already made. My old roomate was an engineer for Azentek for their car pc project. I have seen this thing in person and I absolutely loved it. It does everything and it's in dash.

I want one! Do you have to email them for a price or something?
To OP, if you made a nice system for a good price then I'm sure you could sell some. You would need to compete with this thing though.

There are also a few other issues with it. It only has g wireless, it's running Vista :( , only has GMA 950 graphics [which they say is good hahaha], has a PCMCIA slot which is defunct now. Should be an Express card slot. However the OBDII & CANBUS interface option is cool.

I think i'll just use my eeepc with a touchscreen mod. What I really want is a standard head unit with dvd player and touchscreen with usb touch screen control so then I can put a mini pc in the glove box and have the audio come through the head unit and all controlled with the touchscreen. Simply play cd or dvd on head unit then if i want gps or mp3 etc it can be done with the pc.
Has anyone seen a head unit that can do this?

this is what I want.... it does everything as a head unit then just add a pc. Acts as a normal cd/dvd player headunit then allows full touchscreen control via usb for the pc and even allows cd/dvd-rom function for the pc using the internal drive. has built in amp etc.
